Tracking Subdomains without access to Primary Domain
-
Hi,
I have look after mutliple sub domains on a website and want to implement GA sub domain tracking across them.
I do not have however have access to the primary domain as thats controlled by a larger organisation.
I'm wondering how to set this up so it tracks correctly? Do I set the domain name in my property to the primary domain, or the main subdomain?
For example I have test1.example.com (which is basically a homepage), test2.example.com, test3.example.com and test4.example.com which are various sections.
As stated, I don't control the root example.com so
Do I use setdomainname test1.example.com in the tracking code or
setdomainname example.com.
Apply filters etc and then setup profiles for each subdomain?
Hope this makes sense.
Thanks.

Hey there,
You'll need the setDomainName line to reference the main domain:
_setDomainName, 'example.com'
Put that across all of your subdomains with the same UA account and it'll properly track. Without GA installed on the main domain, however, all visits to the www. will appear as an exit.
Fortunately, clicks from test1.example.com to test2.example.com should properly track and retain referring information.

My domain as a sufix on GA reports
Hi, There's a friend of mine who asked me with some weird results on her sites' Google Analytics reports (http://esther-roche.es). I've searched the GA code and its GA account config and I've no clue about where this esther-roche.es is to remove it. Any idea? Thanks in advance, BzgPcAo.jpg

What's the final word on Image Search tracking in Google Analytics?
Sorry if this has been answered but I can't seem to get a straight answer to my questions by searching around. How is traffic referred by Google Images counted in Google Analytics? I know it used to be referral traffic from google.com/imgres. A lot of things I have read say that it should all be under google/organic now, but my site still gets referral traffic from google.com/imgres, so that can't be. However I also get traffic as google/organic that I am pretty sure is from image search, because we don't rank for the keyword normally, but we do for image search. What's the deal? How is traffic from an embedded image in a regular result page counted? How can I segment my image search traffic better? It would be great to see image search traffic as it's own medium. I found a script here -- http://jrom.net/google-images-in-google-analytics -- that looks promising, has anyone used it or can recommend another way? I haven't used the GA API very much so I want to make sure the script is kosher and won't screw up my numbers.

What is best practice for tracking RSS feed subscribers
What is the most accurate/achievable way of tracking data about subscribers to your RSS feed through Google Analytics? With standard WordPress sites, we place the RSS link to Feedburner so we could track statistics. However it wouldn't track the way that I use it. I use Pulse on an Android Tablet to read my feeds offline on the bus each morning. At home, Pulse automatically downloads the latest feeds wirelessly overnight. So then I can read them without a connection. The obvious downside for my reading experience is that I only get what is contained in the feeds. If the company only includes an excerpt, it's too annoying to read the teaser and be unable to connect and follow a link. So I only subscribe to feeds that contain the full post. Yeah to seomoz, aimclear, SEL, adwordsblog. I dont subscribe to bruceclays blog, much as i'd like to, because it doesn't contain the full feed. That's probably deliberate on their part, because I have to consciously visit their blog on my desktop at work, to see the whole post. The other problem with say Pulse, is how it locates the feed. I typed in the URL, and Pulse subscribed me. I assume that Pulse simply looked for the domain.com/feed URL and added that, rather than look for feeds2.feedburner.com/domain. I looked at Feedburner stats and they didn't go up for 2 days, so basically it didn't track me. Would it be as simple as using the Google URL builder to add parameters to each post in the RSS feed? Eg utm_source=feedreader, utm_medium=rss, utm_campaign=tracking. But that still wouldn't track offline users. I assume that most people are also not going to paste the Feedburner URL into their FeedReader, but would let the platform auto-detect the feed. Any suggestions?

Is IP tracking of visitor allowed?
Hi, Google Analytics does not provide IP addresss of the visitors. What if i develop some in-house tracking mechanism to do so? Is it allowed or will Google penalize me if it comes to know about it? Thanks
