Can keyword in onpage links be seen as spam?
-
My seo strategy relies heavily on a lot of great relevant content on the domain. To achieve this, I have a section with 'information docs' on each product page. They are lists with links to informational pages relevant to the product.
For instance;
On this product page there are 30 links to articles;
domain.com/apples/how-to-store/
domain.com/apples?recipes/etc.
The anchor texts of these links are the titles of these articles, so on the product page the list of links looks like this:
How to store apples
Recipes with applesetc.
Question: Are those keywords in the links (apples) counted as onpage keyword usage an can it be seen as keyword stuffing by Google?
Thanks a lot.

Wouldn't you say much of SEO is based on opinion and speculation because Google will never reveal all their methods? Sure, there are some things that can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, but they are few and far between.
-
Agreed, and also the reason I asked this, I haven't come across this kind of proof yet.
I would think Google, will distinguish incontent keywords from the ones in link anchor texts, but I'd like to be a little more sure on that..
-
I see lots of what appear to be "opinions" as answers here.
Does anyone have a link to an article with data that clearly ties keyword links in articles that connect to pages on the same site being a genuine problem that has been penalized? A video or blog post where a Googler such as Matt Cutts is quoted would also be great proof.
If this was a problem then sites like Wikipedia would be in big trouble.
-
It can be considered as spam depending on how many you use. Try avoiding site-wide and navigation links using the same Anchors. I would recommend that you build your content trying to provide relevant information to searchers rather then relevant keywords for rankings.
Also, if you use a lot of keywords you should also have a lot of great links since this is how you can judge a great content.

Isn't it so frustrating how we say not to design for search engines, but for users instead; but when we are doing something that makes the most sense from the user's perspective but it's potentially something Google wouldn't like, we have to change it? It's completely ridiculous. Google rules the Internet.

The page with the most info docs contains 55 links to those info docs, 38 of them have the keyword in the anchor.
I wouldn't know how to list them elsewhere, while still letting them support the product page.. Maybe I'll have to try to remove the keyword out most of the anchors, as mr. Weiss suggests..
-
It's the sheer volume of them that is the main problem. Is there a way (that makes sense) to not have them all listed on the same page?
-
yes,it can be considered spammy especially if you have tons of navigation links/anchor text all with apple in them.
You can add some but I would remove them in places that don't make sense for the reader.

Can Google bypass an AJAX link?
On my company's events calendar page when you click an event, it populates and overlay using AJAX, and then the link that is populated in that overlay then takes you to the actual events page. I see this as a problem with Google because it can't follow the AJAX link to the true event page, so right now nothing on those pages is getting indexed and we can't utilize our schema to get events to populate in the Google rich snippets or the knowledge graph. Possible solutions I considered: 1. Remove the AJAX overlay and allow the link from the events calendar to go directly to the individual event. 2. Leave the AJAX overlay and try to get the individual event pages directly indexed in Google. Thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Can subdomains avoid spam penalizations?
Hello everyone, I have a basic question for which I couldn't find a definitive answer for. Let's say I have my main website with URL: www.mywebsite.com And I have a related affiliates website with URL: affiliates.mywebsite.com Which includes completely different content from the main website. Also, both domains have two different IP addresses. Are those considered two completely separate domains by Google? Can bad links pointing to affiliates.mywebsite.com affect www.mywebsite.com in any way? Thanks in advance for any answer to my inquiry!

Link Brokers Yes or No?
We have a client who has asked us to talk to link brokers to speed up the back linking process. Although I've been aware of them for ages I have never openly discussed the possible use of 'buying' links or engaging in that part of the industry. Do they have a place in SEO and if so what is the MOZ communities thoughts?

Questions About Link Detox
Greetings: In April of 2014 an SEO firm ran a link removal campaign (identified spammy links and uploaded a disavow). The overall campaign was ineffective and MOZ domain rank has fallen to 24 from about 30 in the last year and traffic is 20% lower. I purchased a basic package for Link Detox and ran a report today (see enclosed) to see if toxic links could be contributing to our mediocre rankings. As a novice I have a few questions for you regarding this the use of Link Detox: -We scored a domain wide detox risk of 1,723. The site has referring root domains with 7113 links to our site. 121 links were classified as high audit priority. 56 as medium audit priority. 221 links were previously disavowed and we uploaded a spreadsheet containing the names of the previously disavowed links. We had LinkDetox include an analysis of no-follow links as they recommend this. Is our score really bad? If we remove the questionable links should we see some benefit in ranking? -Some of the links we disavowed last year are still linking to our site. Is it worthwhile to include those links again in our new disavow file? -Prior to filing a disavow we will request that Webmaster remove offending links. LinkDetox offers a package called Superhero for $469.00 that automates the process. Does this package effectively help with the entire process of writing and tracking the removal requests? Do you know of any other good alternatives? -A feature called "Boost" is included in the LinkDetox Super Hero package. It is suppose to expedite Google's processing of the disavow file. I was told by the staff at Link Detox that with Boost Google will process the disavow within a week. Do you have any idea if this claim is valid??? It would be great if it were true. -We never experienced any manual penalty from Google. Will uploading a disavow help us under the circumstances? Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it!!! Are footer links important?
We currently display a list of links in the footer of our site to help boost SEO. They were put in place years ago and in a recent discuss with our UX team they requested we remove them from the site. Do footer links have any value? Or is this an old dated practice that no longer works? If we remove the footer links should we expect to see if have an impact on our SEO traffic?

Is this keyword easy to rank? how can I estimate what kind of work it takes.
I am Using Micro Niche Finder KeyWord: Send SMS online domain available: .org Avg. Monthly searches: 1600 Adword cost : 2.12 Measure of Back link: 633 SOC: 20 (green) Most of the Back link using Majestic SEO appear to be coming from sendhub.com and massmailsoftware.com website. I researched sites with these keywords and those sites appear to have tiered pricing plans and appear to be charging money for their services. My plan, put some effort in organic SEO and rank this site to page 1. Get some optin users and start communicating with them to see what is their pain point. How can I tell on what it takes to rank this page to page 1 on google? Would it take lot of blog articles for back link and if so… how many? Is a rough estimate possible. Thanks.

Should you give all the posts in a Forum an unique description? Or let it empty so Google can make one with the crawled keywords .... ...
To make all descriptions for all forum posts unique is a hell of a job.... One option is to crawl the first 165 characters and turn these automaticly into the meta description of the page.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Zanox
If Google thinks the meta description is not suitable for the search query, Google will make a own description. In this case all te meta descriptions are unique, like the Google Guidlines want you to do. How will Google think off the fact when we delete the meta description tag so Google will make all the descriptions by herself?0
