Tips to get rid of a link from an infected website ?
-
Hi,
During some netlinking analysis I found that a website linking to one of the sites I do SEO for triggers my antivirus... It seems infected by JS/Dldr.Scripy.A Java script virus.
Being the first time I deal with this kind of problem, and having not found any info on the Q&A or anywhere else, I wonder a few things :
1°) How to verify the reality of the threat and be sure it's not a false positive ? Is there some tool to scan the website, maybe an online vrus scanner ?
2°) How to contact the webmaster since I cannot look for a "contact us" page ? I looked in a whois, but I only got the e-mail of his hosting service, can I contact them directly ?
3°) Any tips or important things I should know ?
Thanks for your help

Thanks Highland and Donnie for your input.
It's not a sitewide, though there are three links from it. AVG's tool confirms the threat so it's definitely a bad seed (thx for the link).
I know it's not that bad and that link alone can't penalize the website I work with, but that one gives me a lot of work : borderline spammy profile, with two "satellite site" heavily linking to it that were penalized (because of abuse of anchor text precisely)... not quite natural, though itself wasn't penalised by Penguin. I guess old numerous triangle links between the same webmaster's websites aren't triggering the algo, even if they're penalized, but I prefer to do a little bit of cleaning now before it's too late^^

Here is a free tool to check if a site has malware http://www.avg.com.au/resources/web-page-scanner/
You should look good for an email address and have them take down that link if possible. However, I doubt having one bad link will influence your results. The new updates were targeting spam networks and over optimized sites (mostly sites that used exact anchor text's).
I hope this helps

I wouldn't worry about one of your backlinks being infected. Google will probably flag their site but doesn't assume that sites it was linking to are bad.
One solitary link still can't really hurt you. Now if they have a sitewide to your site I might be concerned.

This doesn't happen with other pages on our website. This has been happening intermittently in the gap of 2-3 days. Any inputs will be very useful for us to debug this issue Thanks

Outbound Links
I have a page on upstrap-pro.com that provides weights of cameras and lenses. The user/buyer of my on-slip camera straps needs to know the weight his camera and lens to determine the proper pad size... large to small. We have put together a long list of the most popular customer cameras. The way it was done (by my daughter) was to also provide a via a link to dpreview.com which is an excellent site for camera information including specifications etc. My personal feeling about this is mixed. I can do it by having it open dpreview.com in a new tab but then the user/customer could still get distracted and go down the rabbit hole. On the other hand dpreview is such a good site that if they are new to photography and don't know about it, they should. I don't get a dime from dpreview. If fact I doubt they would ever link back to me because they do not write about camera straps. I hear mixed things about outbound links. In this file there are quite a few outbound links to dpreview to keep it consistent. I could do a nofollow on all of them but I read that this is the easy way out. Google is jump ball and I have no clue what Cutts and his merry men are going to decide is cool or not cool. I'd like some thoughts or options... Thanks... A small part of the file below. Forms and link juice
On product listing page on e-commerce site We use POST forms as 'Add To Cart' buttons. Because of that We have dozens (~40-80) forms on any product listing page, and two questions regarding them: Does these forms affect link juice of other links on the page? Are there cases when forms are somehow counted by Google as links? Regards, Lucek

Get rid of a large amount of 404 errors
Hi all, The problem:Google pointed out to me that I have a large increase of 404 errors. In short I had software before that created pages (automated) for long tale search terms and feeded them to google. Recently I quit this service and all those pages (about 500000) were deleted. Now google GWM points out about 800000 404 errors. What I noticed: I had a large amount of 404's before when I changed my website. I fixed it (proper 302) and as soon as all the 404's in GWM were gone I had around 200 visitors a day more. It seems that a clean site is better positioned. Anybody any suggestion on how to tell google that all urls starting with www.domain/webdir/ should be deleted from cache?
