Too many on page links
-
Our home page (and 1400 of our other pages) have well over 100 links, going beyond the recommend amount. Our competitors have less on page links (to other pages on their site) and way more link popularity so we are trying to figure out the best solution for this without hurting our sites conversions and usbaility.
-
We have a similar problem, we have a javascript dropdown nav at the top which brings the user to every product category on the site (+100), but we also also have the main categories listed in the left column. So we have used "no follow" for the javascript dropdown nav, and also other pages like shopping cart etc, so leaving the spider to use the main categories listed in the left column to crawl the site . But not sure how effective or useful that would be

FYI guys we removed about 100 of the internal links and rankings jumped 3 big positions overnight. They had not moved in over 2 months. Coincidence? I think not.
-
I've seen big name "expert seos" say that 150 links should be fine on a large site so they still think you should try and keep them at a reasonable level so 100 isn't a hard and fast rule. Like many things in SEO it is a guideline.
-
Thanks guys, what about that javascript drop down (view all departments). Should I make those noindex-nofollow?
-
I would start by identifying the specific pages you want link juice to go to most, and those that you don't need juice to go to. That should give you a starting place to see what links to reduce or cut.
-
For you guys, I would really recommend focusing on off-page ranking factors rather than on-page ranking factors. On-page ranking usually only accounts for about 30% of all SEO - off page factors count for about 70.
You need more links, need a strong social media presence, and need to be publishing tons of high quality content about trade shows, trade show marketing, etc.
Your on-page SEO looks great - get rocking on off-page!
-
Thanks yes, that is the point of what I'm trying to accomplish. We want to maintain more of the link juice that the home page has. However, not sure which of the elements on our site should be tweeked. We have a javascript drop down, the left side navigation, and all the products and tabs on the center of the home page. I think the javascript drop down is being crawled and counted still but not sure.
-
100 isn't really a hard and fast recommendation any more. I do not think your page has too many links to be user-friendly. From an SEO standpoint, see these resources:
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/how-many-links-per-page/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6g5hoBYlf0I don't think you necessarily need to reduce your links on the page. However, I would definitely limit links to less important pages so that you maximize the link juice that flows to your important pages.
-
The "too many outgoing links" (less than 100 links per page) was originally created because Google could only index 101KB of a page, and so they needed some sort of rule that would help it's users. However, this rule is no longer in place, and the guideline has been removed. I would suggest you don't have 50000 links on a page, but your website looked fine.
Wow, I love your website - can you send me an email to alhallinan@gmail.com with some info?

Can I use nofollow to limit the number of links on a page?
My website is an ecommerce and we have on homepage about 470 links ! 1. We have a top bar with my account, login, faq, home, contact us and link to a content page. 2 . Then we have multistore selection 3. Then we have the departament menu, with several parants + child category links 4. Then we have a banner 5. Then we have a list of the recently sold and new products. 6. then we have an image grid with the most important cms/content pages (like faq, about us, etc) 7. then we have footer, with all info pages, contact us, about us, my account etc. There are some links that are repeted 2, 3 times. For a user it is easier to find the informations but I'm not sure how search bots (google) deal with that. So I was thinking on how can I have around 150 links to be followed. To remove the links from the page is not possible. What about to add nofollow to repeted links and some child category, as the spider will crawl the father and will access child on the next page? Is this a good strategy?

How many keywords for home page?
I am a close up magician based in the UK and have just signed up for Moz Analytics and looking through the info now. The first issue was that it says my home page had an F grade for "table magician" My home page is not really optimised for table magician but Moz is suggesting I do. So my question is do I go with Moz and adjust my home page to match even though I have a dedicated page for table magician. Is this title tag for the home page too much. Roger Lapin: Wedding Magician - Close up Magician - Table Magician ?? Thanks

On-Page Report Card: Whats up with the TITLE of the page?
Started to fix the SEO issues on a customers website. When I run a "On-Page Report Card" It says that the title of the webpage:
On-Page Optimization | | maklarlabbet
www.visbymaklarna.se/visbymaklarna.html Is "visbymäklarna - Ditt förstahandsval på gotland." But if I check in the source code of the webbrowser the title should be:
name="title" content="Vi är mäklarna på Gotland som sätter människan i första rummet" /> (Actually this is with special encoding for the swedish characters. The title in coded text is: "Vi är mäklarna på Gotland som sätter människan i första rummet") Anyway the title of the webpage source code and the title of what SEOmoz reports is different. Why is that?0 -
Do Navigation links count the main link on the page?
After reading this article http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/anchor-text it talks about how only one link per page counts if they are going to the same page. This is what i had learned in the past; however, my understanding was if it was a in the main navigation as a child or grandchild or in the side navigation and then in the main body text, the link in the main body would count/ be held higher than the other options.

Sold Products appear as duplicate pages 'Page Not Found' ???
Hi there, I'm down to just 6 duplicate page warnings but I'm not sure how to deal with this one: Information Page Not Found! http://www.vintageheirloom.com/index.php?route=information/information&information_id=6 My Ecommerce shopping site products are unique, 1 of a kind. So once one product has sold and been delivered we take the product off our website, hence the Information Page Not Found! As I understand when search engines re-index these warnings will drop off but new sold products would replace them. So redirecting seems like hard work and never ending. Is it ok to ignore these warnings? Thanks Mozzers..

Too many links??
Hi mozzers I have a question that I need some feedback on please, I run 2 websites both e commerce retail sites and both doing well with SEO however, Our strongest site and parent site so to speak links to our sister site. Here is the outline. Site1 parent site is hosted on a unique URL and on a VPS. I have 384 links coming into this site from the other sister site. from various pages Site 2 the sister site, has 68,864 links coming in from site 1 as we have a link in the footer on site 1 to the home page of site 2. So far we have had no adverse affects from the Google zoo releases, however I am concerned that this many links will soon get penalized. Thoughts from anyone please? I am considering removing the footer link, thus removing 68,000 + incoming links. Looking for any advice here please. thanks Ryan
