Is there any value to writing articles for Article Directories such as EzineArticles anymore?

Is there any benefit to SERPs of writing content for EzineArticles anymore or is it pointless?
-
Personally, I have run some tests, even before the devaluation by Google, and have found articles directories to be a waste of time for the amount of time you put into it and the little to no value you get from it.
With so many factors to consider for a good SEO plan, I try to focus on ones that help the most...

Hello Harry, I think ezines are good to supplement your link building efforts. You can also use your links to show your customers that you have content on various sites around the web. Yes, ezines have been devalued by google but there is still some value there. First you should create great content for your site, have an active blog, build non-paid back links, optimize your social interactions, then go the route of ezines and hubpages last. Diversity of links still help.

Hi again Harry,
personally I wouldn't bother with Ezine articles or any similar article marketing networks - instead, spend that time producing high quality content, either for your own website or for guest blogging. I replied to your other question with a link to Jon Cooper's post (here it is again):

There's some great link-building methods in there that are a far better use of your time. Whilst it's tempting to take the easier options such as Ezine Articles, they won't serve you well in the long-run (just look at the de-indexing of Build My Rank as a pertinent example).
Hope that helps Harry

Making a custom web directory
I am wondering if it is beneficial to launch a social bookmarking website based on Semantic Scuttle [http://semanticscuttle.sourceforge.net/demo] in order to gain inbound links. For the sake of example, say my industry is ebooks. I would of course add links to all of my products to the site. In addition, I would want to add links to competitors products to the site to make the site actually useful and not look like spam. On the face of it, is this a good idea? Secondly, I of course wouldn't want to be helping out competitors, so would any of these actions be advisable? add nofollow links to all links except those pointing to my site. ads or featured listings pointing to my links. I make it so only voted on links are dofollow. Thus, competitors could actually get links from my site. Naturally, I would vote on all my submissions. The idea of the site would actually be to provide a meaningful service. Once it's done I would want to get people linking to it. Any advice? Thanks! Edit: I added scenario #3 which I think is probably the best option, if this is even a good idea. I would also make some static content to really make this a good resource!

Does this lose link value?
I have a link to my site from a post on an online forum. I now want to include the forum in a blog post about good industry-related e-forums. If I link to them in this article, will I lose the value from the link on the post in their forum, and could it be seen as spammy?

Is There Value in Disavowing Links if you there is No Google Penalty?
I have just started using Link Detox to determine if our clients have links/domains pointing to their sites that could be harming them in organic search. In a few cases 7%-9% of links have been flagged as a high priority to be disavowed. I would be interested in your opinion on the following: If your site does not have a Google penalty is there an advantage to disavowing pages that have been flagged as high risk? When I go to those pages they look spammy and have no real value other than an inbound link. If a client acquires another website/company and that website is now 301 redirected to the client's site, would "high risk" inbound links from the acquired company cause a problem for my client? A client has taken down content from their site that was completely unrelated to their current business. Is there a benefit in disavowing those links to the old content that are deemed by Link Detox as being high risk? Thank you, Rosemary

Ecommerce - Discussion of Article Topics
Hello, My client is in a boring niche, not a lot of people linking anywhere. He needs good traffic within 3 and a half months. After listening to people here at seomoz, we're making five 5000-10000 word articles on topics that are useful to the customer we can promote The client is writing the information out himself and then a professional writer is going to put the final article together. We'll keep working it until it's a best-of-the-web The most useful article we have come up with is all the details about "How to select a product" There's definitely enough information for an article there. But we need to be able to promote one of the articles, and the thing that is most linked to that I've found are articles about the problems that the products solve. An article on that wouldn't be as useful to our customers. Your thoughts?

Which Directory Sites to Choose?
Hi All I am a newbie to SEO and have a quick Q. Assuming that appropriate steps would be to; a) Ensure all onsite matters are are correct, title tags, meta descriptions, redirects, canonical issues. b) Submit to Directories c) Build Links I am approaching step b) Which Directories are worth submitting to? For those which require payment, how can I decide which are value for money or should I just use SEOMOZ list of links and assume that theyre worth the $50 - $100 if my higher ranking competitors have links from these directories. Also, can this be looked opon as grey/black hat 'buying of links'? Thank you Sean www.pretavoir.co.uk

Sponsored Directories & Blog Posts
In your opinion, is it worth paying for sponsored links in directories like http://www.dmegs.com, rather than the standard free links? I'm also curious about sponsored posts on Blogs (such as http://www.lovemydress.net/blog/sponsors/) where links are dofollowed, but clearly marked as sponsored. Will Google penalise me for purchasing these links? Are the links de-valued in any way?

Is this Directory Guide by SEOmoz still accurate?
I need to pay for some directories, but I don't know if BOTW, Business.com, Joe Ant and others are still worth it. Anybody know if this is still viable? http://www.seomoz.org/directories All Mozzers, can you please give me a 'thumbs up' so I can get more MozPoints? 🙂
