Geo-targeting / Presenting Unique Content
-
A client is debating housing two websites under one URL. The sites would offer similar services at different price points. For example, if a user was coming from a San Fran IP they would be presented with the "high-end" packages while another user coming from Dallas would get the "low budget" content. What are the SEO implications? I know that auto geo-targeting can sometimes be risky. It seems like IP locators aren't accurate all the times (especially from a mobile device).
Advise? Basically, the client wants to make sure that a Dallas user will be presented with the "right" keywords in the SERPs. What would you recommend? Thanks!

Great, thanks Adam! You confirmed my suspicions. Just wanted a second opinion.

Just to be sure I understand - the url would be the same, but the content and price point would differ based on the user's IP address? I would not recommend that. For one thing, Google is only going to crawl and index one page at any given url. For another (as you mentioned) geo-targeting is not 100% accurate.
I would recommend two separate pages or sections of your site.

Strategy for 301s/404s
Hi all, We receive a feed containing new products every morning, some products are removed and this obviously ends up in Webmaster as a 404. Is it fine to leave this as a 404 or would 301'ing the link be a better option? If we leave as a 404 we end up with thousands after a couple of month which scares me and makes finding actual 404s more difficult. Essentially, if lots of pages are being removed everyday, what's the best way of tackling these? Thanks!

Geographic Targeting Feature
Inside Google Webmaster Tools is the Geographic target feature. Am I wise to change it from it's default setting ? The Geographic Targeting is a great feature that allows you to link your website to a particular location/country. It should be used only when a website targets to users from a particular country and when it does not really make sense to attract visitors from other countries. I have a site that ONLY is applicable to the UK. MY QUESTION Will I do more damage by setting the geographic location to UK, and so down grade my Google ranking in general. Or It's best to inconvenience none-UK geographical users and then NOT impact any google rankings holistically. I'm thinking of switching from the default webmaster geographical setting to the UK only. Good decision based on my site only being in the UK? Thanks in advance for any reply

Content marketing where articles aren't high traffic
Hello, If no one is writing articles in your niche and articles are very scarce in the top 100 landing pages, what does that tell you about content and content marketing in your niche

How can we provide geo-detection without hurting SEO?
We represent a franchise, and the parent site does well for head terms, but we want to add a feature with the nearest location to a consumer based on geo-detection. We don't want to hurt the rankings for broad head terms. Could we use an iFrame to present the closest shop without affecting the general SEO we have done?

Pro/Cons of JUST using Google Analytics
I find myself in a situation where I am having to defend why purely relying on just Google Analytics for site data i.e. exit pages, keywords, bounce rate etc... is not good practise. So I thought/wondered if other people have come up against this. What are the Pro and Cons for ONLY using Google Analytics for your site data....

Books about Content Marketing & Persona creation?
Hello SEOmoz, First question here on the forum, but a silent follower for years 🙂 I'm looking for a good book - you define what is "good" - about content marketing and or persona creation that you read and proved to be usable in real-life situations I've read "Accelerate" but found it too light-weight. Therefore your recommendations would come very in handy. Looking forward to your replies! Best regards, Nikolaas
