Unnatural Link Warning No Longer Showing in GWT?
-
Hi,
We recently took on a new client that had been hit by the recent Google updates. After having a really good look at their analytics and their link profile it looked like they had been hit with over-optimisation of anchor text.
Over the last month or so we have been working to remove a pile of links that contain their main keyword starting with the easiest to remove and the lowest quality. At the same time we have been building links using sematic keywords and junk anchor text in a bid to dilute the ration of main anchor text within their profile.
We have a timetable of tasks drawn-up which we are working through, at the end of the timetable when all tasks were complete we planned to write a very nice reconsideration request to Mr Google.
I have logged in to Google Webmaster Tools this morning and I have noticed that the 'Unnatural Links' notice has been removed from that domain.
Does anyone know if this signifies anything? We haven't sent a reconsideration request to google yet.
Thanks.

Hi Cyrus,
The GWT account belongs to the client, I just checked with them and they say that they are 'Not Sure' if they deleted the message or not which suggests that they possibly may have. Overnight there has been no upwards movement in rankings.
Back to the original plan I think, we will finish all of the tabled tasks before submitting a reconsideration request. The link profile still looks a bit suspect to us and I am sure that Google aren't going to be any less critical.
Thanks for your reply.
Ade.

Another possibility, does more than one person have access to the Google Webmaster Tools account? If so, it's possible another user deleted the message.
If you have planned on cleaning up your links anyway, I don't see the harm of submitting the reconsideration request (unless you are notifying Google of paid links they haven't caught yet) Usually Google will respond with a message that will either confirm there is no manual penalty on your site, or that they are still seeing unnatural links that hurt you.
There's been a lot of discussion lately about whether webmasters should respond to every unnatural link warning in GWT, or simply ignore them. Those that have submitted reconsideration request often go though massive efforts to reach resolution.
The big question is - have your rankings/traffic improved? This might indicate any possible penalty has been removed, or that Google now considers your backlink profile more clean - or at least good enough not to trigger any automatic messages.

OSE is not 'live' data...it's archived data. What you are seeing is the web as it (mostly) was as of the beginning of May. Next update scheduled for May 29.

Hey!
Yes, it signifies that now you don't have that much of unnatural links, but it really doesn't mean that you now don't need to apply for re-consideration.
Google keeps on checking/ updating your link profile, so that message was flashing till the moment Google could see those links but now, when you have removed those links it has disappeared automatically. You still shall need to request for re-consideration.
You please proceed as per your plan and ignore the rest of the things, you are going just great.

I actually have a similar question. So I also have changed all "unnatural links" to the Brand name of my client. However, when I run an OpenSiteExplorer backlink report, all of these links that have been changed are still showing up? I do I get Google to crawl these other websites so that the current backlinks are accurately portrayed in the report - and by Google?
Thanks

Thousands of links coming from an iframe
We have an iframed calculator on one website (www.renewablesguide.co.uk) which has a text link to another of our websites (www.solarguide.co.uk) which is where the calculator originates. We allow other sites to embed the calculator which gives us the benefit of a followed link back to our site. However in the case of renewablesguide (which we own) we've added a tab to the calculator on every page which GWT shows up as 24 000 links from this site hitting the Solar Guide homepage. As the link is held within an iframe would this amount of links be seen as spammy?

URL not indexed but shows in results?
We are working on a site that has a whole section that is not indexed (well a few pages are). There is also a problem where there are 2 directories that are the same content and it is the incorrect directory with the indexed URLs. The problem is if I do a search in Google to find a URL - typically location + term then I get the URL (from the wrong directory) up there in the top 5. However, do a site: for that URL and it is not indexed! What could be going on here? There is nothing in robots or the source, and GWT fetch works fine.

Very strange: META descriptions not showing
Hello, Since Panda 4.0 has been launched, all of my optimized META description have been gone in Google.
Technical SEO | | MarcelMoz
A while ago, I posted a question about this problem here: http://moz.com/community/q/all-meta-descriptions-gone. I know about Google's own will to decide which META description will be shown. And also about unique content of the descriptions. All pages did have an optimized description before Panda 4.0 and there were no troubles at all, what tells me there is something else going on. I tested some things: Rewrote 50 descriptions to very uinique ones, only five got indexed. This tells me that duplicate content of the descriptions is not the problem (they have never been 100% duplicate, product type was a variable which was always different for each page). Removed cache in GWT and fetched again as Google, didn't help. I checked the pages I tested and they all have been indexed again without showing the optimized descriptions. More information: The first time I changed some META descriptions and fetched the pages again in GWT, Google picked up my new META descriptions and showed them. A few days later, most of them disappeared again (so Google is aware of the description but seems to ignore it). Some pages show the optimized description when I change my search query (only a few, mostly the optimized description never got shown) Technique is ok. Source code shows the right optimized description. META robots isn't blocking anything except NOODP/NOYDIR (always has blocked those). Websites using the exact same CMS, website template, META descriptions (style and build-up), do not have these problems I compared elements like place of description in source code, usage of meta robots, og:description, crawl-delay in robots.txt, and special characters in descriptions between websites that are showing optimized vs. website that don't show optimized descriptions. I can't find any connection. Something I noticed is a change is my Robots.txt file: my webmaster has added the following command:
Crawl-delay: 2 May this have to do with my problem? I guess it doens't. I did some research and there are more websites that are suffering this problem beside mine. This tells me it must be Google (and so Panda 4.0) that is responsible for this change. I realy want my optimized descriptions back. Does anybody have an idea what to do?
Thanks in advance. Marcel0 -

GWT and html improvements
Hi all I am dealing with duplicate content issues on webmaster tool but I still don't understand what's happening as the number of issues keeps changing. Last week the duplicate meta description were 232, then went down to 170 now they are back to 218. Same story for duplicate meta title, 110, then 70 now 114. These ups and downs have been going on for a while and in the past two weeks I stopped changing things to see what would have happened. Also the issues reported on GWT are different from the ones shown in the Crawl Diagnostic on Moz. Furthermore, most URL's have been changed (more than a year ago) and 301 redirects have been implemented but Google doesn't seem to recognize them. Could anyone help me with this? Also can you suggest a tool to check redirects? Cheers Oscar

Forum Profile Links
Are they really important? Many preach they are, and there are tonnes of services out there who give you thousands of forum profile links in no time. I strictly believe in genuine links built the hard way, and definitely don't want to get into anything which is black hat. Please suggest if building several Forum Profile Links is an appropriate way of building links?

Link Building - Quality,Quantity, or both?
Hello SEOMozzers, As I embark on yet another client's link campaign I ask myself where best to spend resources(time and money) on link building. Typically I provide a mix of blogroll links, article syndication contextual links, social media posting and high PR one way links. I would like to know if anyone here finds one form of link to carry weight over the rest. I have my suspicion and my own theory on it but I would like to know what the moz concensus is.

Link Juice
When we say "link juice", does it mean that a particular page has link juice ( due to backlinks pointing towards the page ) or each link on that page has link juice which it passes to the target page I suppose "link juice " is different from Pagerank ?
