In-house SEO for dummies

I'm doing some SEO for a small company and they have a guy available to 'assist' me, but he isn't very SEO savvy. Also english isn't his first language.
If he could do 5-10 hours per week to help, and you were me, what sort of stuff would you show/teach him to do?
Thanks!

Hey Sven,
Thanks these are some good ideas!
Just got to try and keep his 5-10 hours full, shouldn't be too hard, fingers crossed!

Hi Tim,
These are the first things that came to mind:
-
Find blogs about a specific topic, write down the PA and email address of owner.
-
Find link directories relevant to your website, write down PA and email address of owner.
-
Get keyword difficulty data for a list of 1000 keywords.
-
Crawl website for 404's and give cms access to fix broken links
Goodluck and let us know how it works out!

Hi timscullin
This is not an easy question... If I were you, probably focused on info about company. If that guy knows how the company works and who are the targeted customers, in his opinion.
Maybe he can help you to write about the company, and probably you'll be able to write content for landing pages more easily.
In fact, you must to see and decided how could that guy help me?
I hope this answered help you.

In my Google Search Console today, I saw a link from Creative Market. In Moz last week I saw a link from Instructables. In Moz, they have high numbers. Is hiring bloggers to review my products while back linking to my website bad for SEO?
For many months I have been following this strategy of hiring high domain authority bloggers to review my products and link back to my website. For a month or two my rankings improved but now I suddenly lost rankings. Can Google penalize me for hiring bloggers to review my products? Bloggers do mention in the blog that the product was requested for editorial review. Any tips will be helpful. Regards

SEO Training Question
Hi Iv been asked iv to host a basic SEO training session for some employees who have never had any experience in SEO before. Obviously SEO covers so many things and it would be imposisble to run through everything in a single training session. I was curious as to what you guys think would be the best use of the time for the training session? Thanks in advance

Is a lot of inbound traffic coming from site a problem for SEO?
We have a site which is going to deliver content to a big news site and in return we will receive a lot of traffic from the news site. Estimates are that it will be about 50% of our daily traffic. Before this we have about 2000 daily visits, where 50% is from organic traffic. How will this affect our rankings? (It should be pretty obvious to Google that an increase like that in reffered traffic is bought - which I assume will ahve a negative impact on our organic rankings) What is the best tactic to use - regarding SEO - if (when) we proceed to deliver content/recieve traffic from that news site? (we have a lot of decent rankings on several branch keywords, and we don't want to risk those rankings. On the other hand - if we could improve our rankings from this deal - we would like inputs to that as well? Best regards, Chris

Is blog commenting still useful for SEO, post Panda and Penguin?
One website I checked is ranking well on Google. Upon checking its backlinks, I found that most of them are blog comments. Is blog commenting still valuable? Anyone encountered any recent problem (ranks gone down, etc)? Are there any specific strategy to blog commenting these days? Thanks!

SEO Firm recommendations?
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a quality SEO company that focuses primarily on building links on high quality sites? So many of the SEO firms are too slick with their sales people and content analysis and research and reports & B.S. What I'd like is an honest company who will simply help me acquire high quality links. Any SEO companies out there that can help??? Most SEO companies are also way too expensive. I'm looking for quality @ a value. Can anyone help?

Opinion regarding SEO Sabotage
Hello Mozcommunity, I would like opinions regarding potential spammy inbound links from others . In theory you would want excellent useful content on your site that other web properties would link to in a natural way..link bait. But what if links were pointing to your site with malicious intent. For example a competitor bombs yours site with spammy/black hat links. This is clearly a dilemma for search engines since anyone can link to your site...even though you can block incoming with .access I don't believe many smaller in-house seo teams (or do it yourself small business owners) use Google analytics to routinely monitor referring sources.

What link building techniques do you teach to new hires with no SEO experience?
Right now I train my interns and new hires on 5 techniques: 1. Appropriate blog commenting the right way 2. Saving social bookmarks 3. Submitting a website to a directory 4. Publishing articles with links 5. How to build up, maintain and use a Twitter/Facebook/Digg/StumbleUpon profile for SEO Are there some other lower level link building tactics you have tried to teach interns or new hires?
