Think I'm ready to do some link building. Couple questions.

Getting ready to do some link building.
I've got several lists of competitors' links, including a bunch of sites with broken links that would be a great fit to link to us.
I've got a capable VA to get started work on reaching out to people.
Just curious if this is the right game plan, seems a little simple:
For this round of link building I'm thinking all the links would point to my root domain.
-Find quality sites/links to go after
-Find an email to the owner/webmaster
-Have the VA send them a value proposition email(i.e. why it's good fit for all)...or tell them about broken links etc.
-Follow up myself when a response is generated.
-Hope/verify they link to us.
Thanks for the help with the newbie questions.

Sorry for the late response, still getting use to the Q&A and didn't know how to view the questions I had answered.
I would suggest anchor texts that are natural but nothing too unrelative. Links like www.example.com as the anchor text will still be better than "click here".
As long as its not being spammed too much, it would be fine to request a certain anchor text, but nothing obsessive, try to keep it even.

Thanks Roberto,
I'll check into those, was planning on just using excel. Those tools may be well worth it though.
-
Thanks Willny, was planning on just trying to get links to the homepage and let the Webmaster put whatever anchor text they wanted.
Is that a bad idea? Or should I specify what anchor text I want? I figured 'natural' was not suggesting anything.

Great, much thanks for the help!
-
That sounds great and will help you target potential webmasters.
-
That's always the question right?:) In my opinion the site has very high quality data.
-If they would link to Wikipedia about an article on Neurosurgery then they should link to our interview with a neurosurgeon. www.jobshadow.com/interview-with-a-neurosurgeon
-It's real information from real people doing the jobs, i.e not a journalist's rendition.
-It should be of benefit to their readers. If I was reading their site and followed a link on to mine I would say 'hey man, thanks for linking to that. That was cool, I'll come back to your site more if you keep linking to great info like that'.
Obviously I'm biased though:).
Is that enough? Or do I need a lot more?
-
Why should they link to YOU?
-
I agree with willny. You might want to take a look at Ontolo.com and buzzstream.com. I used them for my link building strategies. Make sure you personalize your emails and provide them value.

Congrats on starting your link building strategy. It seems great and you should keep in mind not to create to many same anchor texts or not natural type of anchor texts or links. We can see that this seems to be a problem in a larger scale with penguin updates.

Frequency of Manual Link Building Monitoring
Hey Moz! We're in the middle of performing a link remediation campaign, and had a question regarding new links. We do not acquire any links through methods that break Google's guidelines, but we recently discovered a suspicious link to our website that happened organically. What is the recommended frequency for manually checking all newly discovered links to our website in order to catch/remove toxic links? Monthly? Bi-monthly? Yearly? Thanks in advance!

Footer Links Question
I work at a web development firm and we put site wide links in each of our clients footers (I know this is awful and I am in the process of changing this) that read "web design by, web development by, hosting by,,,etc". My question is, I am in the process of deleting the site wide links and just leaving the links on the home page, but 1. should I get rid of the links all together, that are on sites that have a pr:2 or lower? 2. should I change the footer links, so they aren't all the same text?

I am new to Internet Marketing world and want to become a great SEO. My biggest challenge is How To of Back linking. Not the reason and theory behind back linking. But more the actual hands on Back linking strategy. I feel that a lot of the back linking information out there is so mixed.Rand did a White board Friday lesson on the new link building strategies. When searching for back linking strategies it is filled with all the old link building tactics. What I wanted to ask is all the experienced back link people is, Have you changed your back linking strategy. Or just parts of your strategies. It all seems very confusing for a newbie when it seems the industry it self is still uncertain. Any advice on where a newbie should be starting their new back linking strategy. And any good resources on learning to do the actual hands-on of the back linking. Thanks in advanced

Link Building by Guest Posting.... But How many posts?
Hello I am a small Computer/Tech Blogger (part time) from India and following are my Domain stats: PR: 4 Alexa Rank: 65K *** Open Site Explorer Page Authority: 46/100** *** Open Site Explorer Domain Authority: 35/100** *** Open Site Explorer Linking Root Domain: 98** *** Open Site Explorer Total Links: 1196** *** mR: 4.83** *** mT: 5.81** Domain Age: 3 Years and 4 Months Blog Posts I made: around 580 I never spent ANY time in Link Building, only wrote content for my blog. I only attached my Blog URL in some BIG forums as a signature (never meant for link building, but later found that the signature section of some forums are DOFOLLOW) and very few sites linked/links to me/my articles. Reasons why I am asking question here: Majority of my blog posts ranks very well (top 10) on Google.co.in, but on Google.com, most of them are present from Page 2 - Page 10 - I want to rank my posts well on Google.com, Google.co.uk etc. SERP of Big sites remains static, but my position shuffles a lot. Sometimes any particular blog post of mine is on first page (on a particular Google Domain) and after some days/months, it shifts to 2nd or 3rd page! This happens a lot! As soon as Google Updates pagerank, many recent articles of mine will get atleast PageRank 2 or 3, but when pagerank in updated again, the pagerank of these very same articles drops! Very few articles of mine have static pagerank I am not a master in Computers/Tech and am not the first one on the internet to discover and write something UNIQUE/NEW, but I try to write detailed and good quality tutorials. If main keywords of my posts matches with the keywords of BIG domains, I never rank on first page, no matter I have written more detailed content compared to the content of these BIG sites! Google sends me traffic to majority of my blog posts by means of random keywords! I have decided to do Guest Posting on some blogs of similar niche and with Open Site Explorer Domain Authority ranging from 60 to 80. I will try my level best to write good content for them and they also allows Author Bio with a backlink to my Blog Homepage (in my case, the anchor text for this link will be my Blog Name) I want to ask following questions: Is one guest post with a backlink to my Homepage is enough? or I have to write more content for same domain? I have heard that, if you link to a website/blog which is linking to you, Google don't pass any juice to either of them because of reciprocal linking! - Is this true? The websites on which I am planning to do guest posts are very well established and trusted websites. Some of them have Open Site Explorer Domain Authority of 80+. Also, I never linked to them nor I am planning to do so! I request SEO Gurus here to please help me and I apologize in advance if I am wrong at any point. MY SEO concepts are not much clear and I am a newbie 🙂 Thanks and Regards

Reciprocal Link URL Question
I've been analyzing my competition and found some great directories with High DAs that require the Reciprocal code to be on the same domain as the submitted link . When I went to my competitor's website, the reciprocal link is not there. Does he/she put the link on their page, than have directory verify the code, and then remove the link? If anyone fully understands how this works, please let me know.
