Demoted Sitelinks Not Going Away!!!
-
I've demoted several sitelinks for one of our clients, but they are still showing up. They were demoted several weeks ago, so I would think that they would have been removed by now. I know that these demotions are merely suggestions for Google to follow, but they are usually good at honoring demotions.
The issue is that our client hosts several job portals for clients on subdomains of their site and still need traffic going to these pages. Redirect workarounds have been suggested on the Google WM forums, but this is a unique situation. Personally, I think that because our client is an HR software company, Google sees the client job portal sites on their subdomain as still being relevant to the overall site, and won't honor the demotions because of that.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with subdomains and sitelinks? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

It sounds like you've definitely waited enough time for Google to make a change, so that doesn't seem to be an issue. I can only imagine that Google is still displaying these unwanted sitelinks because it's relevant to the users' search queries and is receiving a solid CTR.
If we're talking about the traditional site links (those that include a small snippet of text, i.e, the meta description tag) you can try to tweak the meta description tag in a way to try to increase your CTR for the pages that you would ideally like to show up as a sitelink.
This seems counter-intuitive in many ways, but for the pages that you want to demote, maybe you tweak the meta description tag to make it less attractive for the user to click on.
Hard to comment further without knowing more specifics.

Do orphan pages take away link juice?
Hi, Just wondering about this whether the orphan pages take away any link juice? We been creating lot of them these days only to link from external sites as landing pages on our site. So, not linking from any part of our website; just linking from other websites. Also, will they get any link juice if they are linked from our own blog-post? Thanks

Sub domains take away the pagerank/link juice of main website?
Hi all, I would like to know how sub domains will be collaborated with domain or main website in terms of authority, backlinks, link juice, etc...Link juice will be passed to sub domains from domain or vice versa? If there are large number of pages in sub domain, will that going to impact the ranking of main domain? Backlinks of sub domain are going to be a deciding factor for website ranking too? Thanks

When sub domains take away the traffic from search; will this helps or hurts main website rankings?
Hi all, We have some of the landing pages on our sub domains which are getting ranked for our brand related queries and taking away the traffic as we don't have pages to rank for those search queries. I would like to know if this scenario hurts or helps our main website ranking as the traffic to the main website is getting diverted to sub domain. Thanks

Paying a premium or going with a hyphenated domain
Q1. I have two domains I am interested and the are available, however, they are "premium" at $1,000! According to GoDaddy, another domain site, just said available through action.

Any recommendations? If I have to pay, is there an auction site or broker you would recommend or another approach to try to get it at a lower price? Q2. The hyphenated domains are available and affordable. However some of the information I gathered on MOZ mentions Google flags it as spam. I believe that article was dated 2014. Is that still a risk or has Google through AI or something else determine spam another way now?0 -

Mini sitelinks in local-pack?
Recently after performing a search I noticed one result in the "7-pack" included several sitelink-type links. It stood out among the others to me, and I was curious if this was schema or perhaps Google playing around with their local results? I'll include a screenshot for an example, any insights or links to articles discussing topic this would be appreciated. Thanks Moz! ASLo4GF

Did Google just give away how Penguin works?
At SMX during the You&A with Matt Cutts, Danny asked why the algo update was called Penguin. Matt said: "We thought the codename actually might give too much info about how it works so the lead engineer got to choose." Last night Google released their 39 updates for the month of May. Among them was this: "Improvements to Penguin. [launch codename "twref2", project codename "Page Quality"] This month we rolled out a couple minor tweaks to improve signals and refresh the data used by the penguin algorithm." Whoa, codename twref2 for Penguin improvement? Is this giving us an insight about how it works? I would guess the ref2 means second refresh perhaps. But tw I am not sure about. What do you think? Is there a hidden insight here?

Sitelinks Query
Hello fellow Mozzers, first of please go easy on me as this is my first ever post ! I have a question regarding Sitelinks. Obviously I am pleased to have 8 Sitelinks now appearing in my GWT account. However one of my sitelinks has an obscure title of 'FIRST' which to the person searching will mean nothing - the actual link to one of my site pages is a good one and i dont really want to 'block' it in GWT and just wondered if anyone had any ideas what might be driving Google to 'auto-detect' the word 'First' for the link in question. The following 'google search example' link will show you what i mean http://www.google.com/search?q=where2stay&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a My result is the first one on the list. Any help from fellow mozzers is much appreciated. Many thanks
