Google Plus for clients
-
Hi folks,
I am coming to the realization that most of my local business clients simply do not have the time, desire or knowledge to establish a Google Plus personal profile and business page. Therefore, I have been contemplating the best approach to establishing Google Plus business pages for multiple clients.
It would appear that information attached to the personal profile for the primary Google Plus account is not revealed when a business page is viewed, and a single personal profile can establish multiple business pages, would it be safe to assume this may be the correct approach?
For example: I have a personal profile and a page for my SEO business. Could I simply create additional business pages for my clients under my account - even though I am not business owner? Are there any adverse ramifications to this approach (e.g. ownership transfer, local SERP issues, etc.)?
Thanks!

You're definitely on the right track. Unfortunately since Google is forcing us to use personal accounts, that's the best way to do it right now. You can transfer ownership of the account if that's ever needed.
If you do have the login/pass that was used to create the places page, you could then add your personal account as another admin as well.
This question/issue is sadly all too common when trying to set up a G+ page. I think you're going about it the best way possible!

Thank you for the suggestions. And, I agree with the approach of using an existing Google Places user/login (if applicable) to establish the personal account - then the page. However, in recent cases where I am dealing with post Places/Plus merge and the client did NOT have an existing Places account - things become a bit trickier
I don't know about you guys, but I have encountered several clients that simply don't want anything to do with establishing or managing Places or Plus accounts - siting that's part of the reason they hired me. They are also resistant to having their personal name/information being visible. I attempt to appease their concerns by explaining the various privacy settings G provides, but resistance typically prevails.

Google+ now allows you to set-up multiple admins, so that might help your main issue of who should set up the account.
Saying that though, since you're dealing with local businesses, I would suggest that you use the login info/password that they used when they created their Google places page(now google local) if that's applicable. That will allow you to go continue without going through the headache of having to contact Google and claim the place. If you do use this login/password, you will be able to create a personal account for the client which they then can use to share the businesses' page updates and links.
Basically, you can now use this personal page to help promote the business. For instance John is the owner of pizza King, he can not only share Pizza King's page info but +1 it on occasion and also add value to the conversation going on, within Pizza King's page.
Using John's page will also allow you to +1 and share the information in case you're worried about it being associated with you(the marketer). For easy access, you can also set up your Google+ page as an admin, to the business page for quick updating and messages.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for the response. I just added a page for a client under my personal account. During the process, I was not required to enter my personal name, so I am not sure what you mean by, "quite a few Google+ profiles with my name..." did you establish multiple personal profiles using your name for clients?
It appears there can be only one "owner" of a page - personal profile information is not visible to visitors of the page, however, there can be multiple "managers" of the page and ownership can be transferred to an existing manager.
I am sure Google did not intend for SEO or Social Media companies to establish and manage multiple pages upon the behalf of various clients in this fashion, but I don't see any other viable method at this point.

I do the same, I have a personal account and just set up pages for clients under that. In my mind it is really not the best solution as I am unaware what will happen when it comes to transfer. Possibly there is a solution of adding an admin and then letting them control it.
The other problem I find is having many Google account and having to use your real name! There are probably quite a few Google+ profiles with my name

Viral SlideShare = Google Penalty?
We recently published a slideshow on SlideShare.net and it ended up doing pretty well. It was featured on their homepage for 3 days, and we got quite a few embeds. Unfortunately, a few days later, our rankings in Google tumbled. I'm wondering if this killed our link velocity, which I suppose would have potentially got us a temporary, automated penalty? If you look at slide #4 and beyond, you'll notice that the logo links back to our homepage, and there's also a "View Quote" button that navigates to that specific quote, so users can find out more information, share it, or view any associated pictures. So, in total, there are quite a few backlinks in that slideshow (88 to be exact). Is this what likely caused our drop in rankings? Or is it more likely to be a coincidence? We haven't done anything else in the past couple of months, other than publish an infographic and a press release. And if this is a problem, how would we fix it? I can edit the slideshare and remove some of the links... but it seems sort of silly considering we haven't done anything blackhat. And, it would actually devalue our slideshow, because users would no longer be able to click through to the quotes. Thoughts?

My client has moved address to a location in the same city. Will updating his Google Places page lead to a drop in rankings? If so, what is the best way to resolve it?

Google places - We currently do not support the location
Hi My Google places listing has vanished from the local search results, and when clicking on the 'see your listing on Google' link from the Google Places dashboard I am getting the message We currently do not support the location What is causing this is it due to another listing with the same address? I have now deleted this extra listing which is now showing as suspended until I enter the pin which will remove it. But what other steps do I need to take to get the listing back on google places search results?

How should I list my client in Google+?
My client is a personal injury lawyer with one office in a highly competitive major metropolitan area and another office in a very small town. They are changing offices in the major metropolitan area in June and will have a new address. They are already doing well in serps related to the small town but are nowhere to be found in the metropolitan area serps. Currently I can find unclaimed listings in Google+ Local for both offices. I cannot find any Google+ business page and they don't know of one. Given this information and the current state of Google+ how would you proceed to list this client? Specific questions include: *Would there be any straight SEO benefit of making a Google+ Business Page for them? *Would you claim the Google+ Local listing for the Metro office that is going to be moved in 5 months? or would you wait until the office is moved then create a new Google+ Local listing?

Google only posting some reviews?
A doctor of mine recently complained that his patient went on to his Google+ Local listing and submitted a review, but it never showed up. The patient can see it on his own page, but it's not viewable publicly. Any ideas or posts you've seen about this? Thanks! Tom

Adding panoramio to google places
I recently watched a webinar on seomoz that said that panoramio was great for local search and that you should upload photos into google places from panoramio. I have tried it several times and on several different computers and have got the same response: We are unable to store your image at this time. Does anyone know why this is? Thanks. David

Google Maps/Places in Organic SERP
This question is regarding having a Google Places snippet consisting of your business location and opening hours appearing in Google SERP when the business name is searched for. One of our competitors who has a location within their name e.g. 'Widgets of Oxford' have a Google Places snippet appear on the RHS of the search results (where Google Ads usually go) when searched for. We are trying to replicate this for our business but cannot seem to find any information relating to doing this apart from that this only appears for them as they have a location in their name. This is because we see a similar snippet when we search for our business name in the format "OurBusinessName in OurLocation). Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
