Buying Facebook Likes...
-
I have been approached numerous times by these companies claiming to provide hundreds if not thousands of 'real' Facebook Likes. Has anyone have had any experience with them?
-
Agreed! See the problem is that these companies are probably reaching out to small businesses... explaining the association with SERP's and Social Signals. Then they pitch you $29.99 for 500 Likes... if these companies are in existence and continue to be.. is because they are doing a good job at selling ... Now is it a 'fatal technique' ? I would probably say Yes... but would like to see some real data to make sure. (Not that I am interesting in Purchasing Likes) but because it is no different than 'Buying LINKS' - and this is, unfortunately, a common practice in our industry.
-
I would agree with Marisa.
Buying Facebook 'likes' should not be part of the strategy - it is just like you are creating an artificial product demand. And how can you be sure on whether or not those are just dummy accounts? That could be a 'fatal' technique. Just make your page more 'likeable' and you will surely get more number of authentic followers.
Authentic 'likes' for authentic business.

Just wanted to jump in and give all of the answers here a high five! These answers are seriously spot on.
-
When you have a new product and no likes .. having a couple of hundred likes on your page might encourage others to like it as well. BUT would I advice getting it ? NO
Like the other mentioned
- These users dont care about your product and will likely not share a single post
- They are most likely not real people , and facebook will most likely delete such profile over time ( when this happens .. some people who like you for your product and fan your page sees the sudden drop from 1000s of Fan to a couple of reals one they might thing you guys have lost a lost of real fans and might be inclined to un-friend ( a word I learned because of facebook ) you )
- Facebook Bans you ? Is it really worth it
-
As everyone already stated this is an ill advised strategy. Facebook is getting more stringent on its policies and this type of strategy can be compared to buying 1000 links for $50. Not a good purchase.
I understand that you want to show your web visitors that you have content that is well liked. The best way to increase your likes is by good old fashioned guerrilla marketing.
- Make sure you reach out to all those who are your current Facebook friends and remind them to like your page. If you direct message them with an appeal you will have a higher conversion rate versus simply posting a request on your timeline or theirs.
- Make sure you set up a Group and Page for your business. This is valuable for every business and can keep people up to date on your latest info.
- Reach out to your Twitter followers, Linkedin Friends and Google + friends and ask them for a like on your site.
These are just some suggestions. I hope they help and Good luck.

Concentrate in getting qualified fans. Use that money in Facebook ads. This is the best way to grow targeted fans that will engage your page. If you look at any page with influential number, you will see a engagement rate of less than 1%.
I know it's cliche, but quality over quantity. Having 100 fans that are engaged is better than 1000 fans that will ignore you.
Through ads, I have discover new segments of client to which target by analyzing my real fans profiles. This is a great exercise that will help you create better content and have an active page.
-
It is really interesting about the account association... and it makes complete sense. Thanks for the feedback! Thanks,
-
Thanks!!! I am so uncomfortable to sign up to anything that looks too good to be true... and this is one those. You make a great point that I didn’t even consider… and that is a good one “you're decreasing the amount of real fans will see your content” I will keep that in mind.
-
Whether those companies actually deliver on that promise or not is moot. You'll have thousands of "fans" who couldn't care less about anything you post. And since Facebook apparently only shows your posts to a certain percentage of your followers, if you have a lot of fluff in there, you're decreasing the amount of real fans who will see your content. The best case scenario is that it will make you look bigger than you are and give you that "social proof" that may encourage more people to like your page. Worse case scenario is you get banned from Facebook. Seriously, I'd advise against it.

Don't do it to yourself. Stay away from these type of I'll sell you links.
These don't help and could be hurtful in the long run if anything.
Those likes that you get are spam likes and the accounts are not real users, so it does not benefit you in any way. I've read some stories where accounts were closed due to association.
STAY AWAY! Don't look for these type of easy way out, that is what these spammers thrives on.

How To Remove Fake Social Media Likes
Hi there Mozzers, Unfortunately I used a black hat seo company for my website at http://greatedmontonhomes.ca in the past. Over the last while I've been able to clean up quite a few of the bad links going to the site, but the company also engaged in buying fake Facebook likes and Tweets. Is there any way to clean these up? Guy

Does promoting a new page on twitter/facebook help it get indexed faster?
I know this probably won't matter much to people who get crawled on a regular basis, but for those of us who don't, does promoting a new page on social media help it get indexed faster with google? My site rarely gets crawled, but I've recently been adding new content. When I add new content I started to promote it on facebook/twitter and I do get minimal traffic from it. I noticed that a couple of the pages seem to be indexing quicker than pages normally do for me, although I'm not sure if it's because I recently migrated to WP or what..? I know T/FB are no follow sites, but is there a chance that promoting a page may contribute to the pages getting indexed? Thanks for any insight you can shed on the matter. It's more for curiosities sake than anything else. Pete S.

Disqus Vs. Wordpress Vs Facebook VS Comment Plug Ins
I'd like to see if the community could offer some feedback on how to 'step up' the comments on our blog. I've been looking over various options, and of course you can find as many pros as you can cons for each of these. In addition to our website, we have a very active, and engaged Facebook page, so my first thought is to install Facebook comments on our blog. However I believe you loose the SEO benefit form the comments (I'm not sure how much SEO benefit you get form the comments anyways if the post content is optimized), people can't comment unless they have, and want to use, their Facebook account (although I've seen some work arounds that allow people to use either or), people don't get notified when there is a reply to their comment, I don't 'own' any of the comments, Facebook does...so if I ever decide to change comment systems, I loose all the comments, and I loose the ability to send a 'welcome email' to first time commenters (which has been very effective for newsletter sign ups.) Facebook sends a large number of traffic to my site, and since there are so many people on our Facebook page, I feel this may be a good option. One other concern I have by allowing people to use either Facebook comments or Wordpress comments is the use of my top commenter plug in. This plug in has been very useful in increasing our blog comment engagement. We are even going to be rewarding our top commenter each month. I'm assuming if you use Facebook comments by itself, or the combo Facebook / wordpress solution I've found online, I wouldn't be able to use a top commenter plugin, since this is pulling the data from Wordpress, correct? One thing I don't understand is I've seen a plug in (I think it's Facebook simple connect) that allows comments to 'sync' between those comments that appear on the blog, and those that appear on wordpress. I'm not sure how this works. Does Facebook recognize a certain url being posted on the Facebook page, and associates that with the same url on the blog, and simply syncs the two? In other words can people comment on the blog (via Facebook comment) and comment on the Facebook page, and simply continue to conversation from either location? This would be a pretty neat feature, but I'm not sure if that's how it works. Also, if I use Facebook comments solely, does anyone know what happens to all of the previous comments left on the blog? Do they all go away? In other words, does it make it seem like I have zero comments on any posts? This wouldn't be good. I know a lot of people use and like the Disqus comment system, but I've read lots of horror stories about loosing comments, blogs being slowed down tremendously, etc. I like how disquis allows you to 'like' someones post. I feel like this would help increase community engagement, but not sure how much. (We already get a fair number of comments as it, I'm just trying to make the experience better.) I'd like for people to be able to post pictures / images in the comments, and I think disqus allows for there (though there may be plug ins that allow this on the native wordpress comments.) Finally I'm wondering if there are some good comment plug ins that would allow me to stay using wordpress native comments, but step up the comments. For instance, using pictures in comments, being abel to rank comments (sort of like the thumbs up / down here on SEOmoz) and any other cool plug ins that help promote engagement. I hope you guys can offer some insight as to the best direction to go with the comments. Thanks in advance!

How do website owners gain from facebook scams like this?
I've noticed two things that are going wild on Facebook this week: http://timhortonsgiveaway.me/ and http://promoforipads.net/ In the first scenario, you supposedly just click share and they'll send you a $25 Tim Horton's gift card. (For those who don't know Tim's it is a very popular coffee shop in Canada). There's no way this is happening...they claim to have something like 5000 cards to give away. In the second one they're apparently giving away 1000 ipods. Yeah...OK. So, they're obviously scams that are just trying to get a few zillion facebook shares. But why?

Facebook business page
Hello Can you help me. I'm starting out in SEO and sometimes I think I miss the Elephant in the room. I have tried and tried to find our via 'Google' or 'Seomoz' articles the answer to this question. How does 'Google Panda' link a facebook business page to it's actual business website if the url is not identical eg 'www.setteeherts.co.uk' 2 'www.facebook.com/settee-herts'? As no one is talking about this I'm assuming I am missing the elephant. If you can see it can you point it out gently? ta!
