How can you get the right site links for your site?
-
Hello all,
I have been trying to get Google to list relevant site links for my site when you type in our brand name, Loco2 or for when Loco2 comes up in a search result.
Different things come up when you search Loco2 and Loco 2.
We would like site links to look like how they do when you search Loco 2. However Loco2 is our brand name, NOT Loco 2.
Does anyone know why Google is doing this and whether we can influence results? We have done as much as possible via Google webmaster, in terms of specifying the links we DO NOT want Google to list for Loco2. However, when you search "Loco2", results only show simple site links.
Ideally what we want is:
-
Loco2 to be recognised as the brand NOT Loco 2
-
The same results (substantial, identical) for Loco2 as for Loco 2 (think o2 and o 2)
-
For the site links to reflect the main pages of our site (Times & Tickets, Engine Room forum etc.)
Many thanks in advance!
Anila

Alan,
On that note, do you recommend demoting the sitelinks via webmaster to get Google to replace it with the better optimized and relevant pages? or just let time do its thing
Thanks

The more emphasis, signals and depth of content, supported by a stronger individual page focused inbound link effort, the more likely the pages you care about will be to end up in sitelinks.
There isn't one formula unique to sitelinks that Google specifies, so I've only ever just applied best practices SEO concepts to my desired goal. And have seen those pages sometimes become sitelinks.

Have you got any suggestions of how to optimize for the brand Loco2 without coming across as OTT. The reason is we already have Loco2 on a lot of pages. Should we try and optimise each page we want as a site link for Loco2 AND relevant terms for that page?
-
We will try to optimise site pages that we want to come up. What tips do you have for that. For example on the Times and Tickets, do we need to make it explicit that this is where you can search and book trains? should this be via H1 tags or meta data or something else. The reason I ask this is that there is only a little text on this page for a reason as it's function is as a software tool.
What about the Loco2 / Loco 2 discrepancy? That is the main issue - we would like to see substantial site links that are identical for both these terms (I have changed the question to reflect this!)
-
It's correct that you can't directly control or dictate which pages Google includes in sitelinks. You can, however, help influence this by better optimizing the pages you want included through more emphasis on your brand within the content of those pages - integrate brand references within on-page content. Then, work to get a mix of brand-centric anchor text into links coming from other sites that point to those pages.
It's not a guarantee, however I've seen some success in this method for various clients.

This could be that LoCO2 is another branded term another company is using like LoCO2 Energy.
This can be fixed by just SEO the pages that you want to be indexed and searched. Majority of the time companies with less competitors using the same branded terms, they have a higher chance of dominating the SERP, this could be the case for your brand.
My suggestions, you should optimize your and build links around your targeted brand term 'Loco2'.
If you want more sitelinks, or more related site links(currently you have About - FAQs - Blog - Inspire me) you can demote these sitelinks within Google Webmaster Tools. You can list the subfolders you don't want to appear in sitelinks extension and it will randomly fill it with another link.
I don't believe you can CHOOSE which links appear at the sitelinks but only what not to include.
Good luck!

Can't get Google to index our site although all seems very good
Hi there, I am having issues getting our new site, https://vintners.co indexed by Google although it seems all technical and content requirements are well in place for it. In the past, I had way poorer websites running with very bad setups and performance indexed faster. What's concerning me, among others, is that the crawler of Google comes from time to time when looking on Google Search Console but does not seem to make progress or to even follow any link and the evolution does not seem to do what google says in GSC help. For instance, our sitemap.xml was submitted, for a few days, it seemed like it had an impact as many pages were then visible in the coverage report, showing them as "detected but not yet indexed" and now, they disappeared from the coverage report, it's like if it was not detected any more. Anybody has any advice to speed up or accelerate the indexing of a new website like ours? It's been launched since now almost two months and I was expected, at least on some core keywords, to quickly get indexed.

Why is this site beating mine? I can't work it out!
I feel my site is not to bad. Needs more work and could be better but what site could not, However i'm bamboozled by some of the sites that are out ranking me on key terms. e.g. Horse Rugs http://www.fasttackdirect.co.uk/products-1-122/Horse_Clothing/HORSE_RUG_SALE.html ranking 8th http://www.centralsaddlery.co.uk/horse/horse-rugs/ not ranking in first 10 pages I dont expect my site (the later) to rank well as its not up there with the bigger players in our industry yet however I can't see why a page like the one i mentioned is ranking so well when as far as i can see its not as well optimized and has very little content. This is not me ranting about it or whining about why i'm not top etc. I just can't work it out and would love sombody to explain the reasons for this? The only thing i can think of is that they have more category with the words "Horse Rugs" in them. Other than that i'm stumped! Ideas on a postcard please!

Hi All, Please can you let me know the name and / or point me at an article / blog / directory on how best to achieve additional links under a search engine listing (I don't mean site links) e.g. I do a search for 'home insurance' on Google.co.uk and under the listing for Compare the Market it has - home insurance, building insurance and landlords insurance. Thanks for your help!

Best practices for controlling link juice with site structure
I'm trying to do my best to control the link juice from my home page to the most important category landing pages on my client's e-commerce site. I have a couple questions regarding how to NOT pass link juice to insignificant pages and how best to pass juice to my most important pages. INSIGNIFICANT PAGES: How do you tag links to not pass juice to unimportant pages. For example, my client has a "Contact" page off of there home page. Now we aren't trying to drive traffic to the contact page, so I'm worried about the link juice from the home page being passed to it. Would you tag the Contact link with a "no follow" tag, so it doesn't pass the juice, but then include it in a sitemap so it gets indexed? Are there best practices for this sort of stuff?

Will rankings for my micro site rank better if I 301 redirect it to my main site?
This is my first time asking so I will try to be as clear as possible. Ok, I have a micro site that is an (exact match domain) and the domain is a couple 3-4 years old and ranks very well for several search terms. The main two terms it ranks for are like this. houses for rent in XXXXX XXXXX homes for rent (XXXXX equals a city name) The issue is this site has no backlinks, zero advanced SEO, I only did basic optimization to it when i set the site up. Even site structure, url structure all are not good.
Technical SEO | | Robbie8299
The only page I have ever even seen rank is the main root url. But with all that the site does really good in the top 1-2 results for key search terms. Now, I have a main site that is a very big site that has steadily been climbing in search terms every month with great backlinks, optimized for the city and all.
It currently ranks on second page for the listed search terms listed above. What I want to do is 301 redirect this microsite to my city page on my main site that is much better optimized for the key city terms.
The 301 redirect would point this "root domain" (mymicrosite.com) to my city page that looks like this. www.mymaindomain.com/city/XXXXXXX If I do this will Google rank my main URL city page as well as it ranks this microsite with zero links, seo, etc, etc. What happens if it does not? Will I be able to turn off the 301 redirect and keep the microsite rankings? My main reason for wanting this is I want this city page to rank well and I only want to optimize one site instead of both. Any help would be great!0 -
Mini site links?
Can anyone point me to information about the "mini" site links on the Google search results or tell me how to get them set up? These aren't the full site links that show 3 by 3 under the first listing but small text links that appear for certain results. (See attached image for reference.) Are these something that can controlled/requested? NAj6E.png
