301 Direct with a deleted domain newbie
-
Hello I'm wondering if the 301 redirect to your money site with a high pr deleted domain still works post penguin.
Will all the link strength pass on to the new domain? What if the domain has nothing to do with your niche? Does that affect it or no?
-
i would not worry about PR, all pages have some PR and all is usefull.
i would make sure none of tthe links come from sites that may harm, you spam or porn sites. If they have little PR and are not relevant, then i would not worry about them, but as long as they are not spam paid links they will not harm you.
This page may exlain a bit more abount pr.

So only do a 301 from relevant sites right?
If the PR is 0 will there be strength or does it need a minimum of 1?
What is the effect of a PR1 301 direct on SERPS? What about PR2,3,4?
-
Obviously the second link is better.
My point is that the page the link was pointing to is no longer relevant, it is the link text and linking page that you need to consider.
-
No nothing is relevant.
EXample:
What is better?
PR 3 labeled pornsex.com/asiancuisine.com that has nothing to do with dogs directed to a site about dogs
or
pr 1 labled bdj.com/dog.com that has everything to do with dogs directed to a site about dogs.
-
It should still work, but the fact that it is off topic is not good. A lot of people get this wrong, its not the the page the link was pr3eviously pointing at that should be relevant, but the page that the link comes from. are the links comming from relevant pages? is the link text relevant?

301 passing authority?
Does anyone have experience of 301's in connection with SEO or more specifically passing authority? Recently purchased a small business that had three small websites. My main concern is all three websites do rank for some fairly important key phrases, but there is very little direct overlap. I was hoping by using 301's I would be able to refocus the authority to get the main site ranking.

301 redirect from a de-indexed site
Is link juice passed from a website that has been intentionally de-indexed by webmaster? The scenario is I had 2 websites with similar content. I decided to get rid of one by de-indexing. I also did a 301redirect from my de-indexed site. Not the whole domain but just the 2 URL's which I believe could pass on link juice. In this case how long the link juice would flow via 301 redirect?

Does LinkedIn Pulse Backlinks add to domain authority?
I'm working on linkbuilding and content partnerships to drive referral traffic and boost our page ranking and domain authority. I wanted to check and see if Medium and LinkedIn Pule backlinking work just as well as other sites? Best, Jonathan

What is a good ratio of total links to linking root domains?
Is 100 total links for every linking domain too high? I suppose I could also look at ratios of sites that are doing well in the rankings.

For all newbies
I answer a LOT of questions here on SEOmoz. Don't forget that you have access to a lot of tools here like the Beginners guide to SEO http://www.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-seo. Piece of advice from me to you... if you are trying to rank higher by doing something that can be easily done (like paid links, directory submissions, article submissions, and even crappy guest blog posts, blog network for backlinks), there is a HIGH likeliness that you will unintentionally hurt your site. Ask questions here in Q&A before doing something stupid, but 1st read the beginners guide.

Sensible way to plan to build Domain Authority
Currently my Domain Authority is at 32. What would be a reasonable DA level to set out to reach in the next 12 month period and what would be recommended as a sensible way to plan to achieve this?

Page Rank, Domain Rank, Link Building....Oh my!
Hi Everyone, So I am looking into a couple of sites that we can use for press release distribution. Naturally, I am looking for sites that will improve our SEO (sites that have a high domain authority). I guess I am just trying to wrap my head around the whole domain/page authority and how it effects our SEO. So for example, I am looking at prlog.org. They have an overall domain authority of 91...sweet! Is this all I should be looking at when I am looking to place a press release, which will include targeted links using appropriate anchor text? If I drill down even further to the actual section that the press release will live on, which will be the security section of the site, the page authority is a 49. Is this what I should be looking at? Do I have to drill down even further and look at the page rank for the actual URL that my press release will actually live on? I am assuming since it will be a totally new page that the page authority will be very low. Is this correct? Should I be looking at a combination of the two? The page authority of 49 is pretty low but the domain authority is very high. What does this mean for my SEO and my links? In a nutshell I need to know what I should be looking at for SEO purposes, is it domain authority, is it page authority of the section the site will live on or is it the actual page that my press release lives on. Is it a combination? What would you do in this situation? Also, could you give me a little more insight into when a low domain/page authority can actually hurt you. What the threshold where you get no link juice or are actually penalized? Do you have any insight in the domain/page domain number that is considered not worth it? Thanks all! Pat
