Creating Authority and choosing URL's

Creating Domain Authority and choosing URL's:
A:
What is better if you want to get higher Domain Authority? Choose keyword.domain.com or www.domain.com/keyword when other sites link to it?
B:
And for Page Authority? Choose keyword.domain.com or www.domain.com/keyword?
Thanks!

Ha, very true.
Or we're both wrong. However at this stage in SEO, Rand's comments are practicably gospel...so I feel pretty confident.

Hi Robert - how true lol - we must have been writing it at the same time as when I clicked submit your reply was already there! At least it qualifies this answer with two of us in agreement

I take it you mean is it better to use a subdirectory on your domain or a sub-domain in order to build your sites authority - I would go with the subdirectory as link juice isn't passed to sub-domains in the same way. Therefore building your content in a subdirectory will also help your new pages ranking being part of a domain that has authority. Quite often Google can treat sub-domains as separate sites so they have to build their own authority.
Have a look at this article - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/understanding-root-domains-subdomains-vs-subfolders-microsites

In answer to your question, Rand did a great article on this a while back as a follow on to a white board friday session.- http://www.seomoz.org/blog/understanding-root-domains-subdomains-vs-subfolders-microsites
There are also multiple other questions of a similar nature.
http://www.seomoz.org/pages/search_results?q=sub+domain+vs.+subfolder
The general consensus seems to be sub-folder over sub-domain. As Sub Folders tend to get all the benefits from the root domain.
To quote Rand from the top article his advice:
"1 subdomain under 1 root domain (but feel free to use subfolders as it makes sense). Starting a blog? I almost always recommend yoursite.com/blog over blog.yoursite.com. Want to launch a new section of content? Use yoursite.com/newstuff rather than newstuff.yoursite.com."
So both A and B - www.domain.com/keyword
Hope this helps.

Using the Same Word in Every URL
Just looking to get some opinions on this. Some coupon sites use "coupon" in all of their URLs - this is a practice I would avoid, as to me it is a little spammy. For example:
On-Page Optimization | | vanessakohl
.com/amazon-coupons/
.com/ebay-coupons/
.com/walmart-coupons/
... and so on for thousands of other brands. I don't think this is necessary, as Google will understand from the content, backlinks and the domain name (including the word "coupon") that brand pages are coupon-focused. Any other thoughts on this?0 -
Url structure with dash or slash
Hi There We have a content website. We don't rank well category image related searches but we get quite good traffic for those keywords. Those keywords are mostly like "category images". We want to change our url structure and we have 2 options now. 1- domain.com/category/category-images 2-domain.com/category/images option 1 repeats the category name so it looks spammy option 2 doesn't really have the keyword. any ideas which one tho choose? Thanks! ps: we don't want to use domain.com/category-images (too many root link)

What URL Should I use in Google Place Page?
Alright, I have a client that has 1 website and 14 locations. We want to create place pages for each of their locations but my question is which URL should I put in the place page and why? I can put in the root domain into each place page, or should I put in the URL that lands on the actual location on the root. example: domain.com/location1 Thanks!

Cononical URL problem
Hello, In the keywords difficulty tool, one of my client's sites has a different number for links to root domain and links to page even though they're both the home page. How do I tell if I have a cononical URL problem, and what do I do about it if I do? Thank you.

URL structure for a new WordPress site
Hi I'm building a new next big thing website from scratch (for a translation agency) and I encountered an issue with the URL structure. I need to chose the URL for important targeted keyword pages and I have a conflict between two tools I'm using. Please read below the situation: domain: mashtranslation.com target keyword: french translation services which URL you think is better from a SEO point of view (and possibly for users): mashtranslation.com/services/french/ OR mashtranslation.com/french-translation-services/ I'm asking this because one WordPress plugin (Wordpress SEO by Yoast) says the URL structure is not optimised while another tool (Market Samurai) says the URL is optimised.

URL question
Hi guys, the pro campaign thing you got going is wicked, love it. I'm recieving good results with my keywords and have noticed that categories that go beyond sub/sub/sub don't do to well. So I wanna move those that do one step up which makes it go from: http://spytunes.com/practice-guitar/advanced-routine/scales/aeolian to here http://spytunes.com/practice-guitar/advanced-routine/aeolian The existing menu system that follow all these categories across the site will soon go so it won't be a user friendly problem, I will have other type of menus. But, and here is the question: Would I greatly benefit from taking the non existent menu away and just go for: http://spytunes.com/practice-guitar/aeolian while i'm at it? Or do I stick with my current structure? I guess my real question is; how much is there to flat URLs? Cheers -dan lundholm spytunes.com
