Google Custom Report Filters are a pain in the arse
-
Greetings from high weed pollen count Wetherby UK
Ok ive been having extreme custom reporting filter frustration with Google analytics.
My objective was to set up a "custom" google analytics report that detailed:
1. Referral traffic from external sights in one reporting tab
2. Visitor generic traffic report including direct, search & referral traffice.g: http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/reporting-tabscopy.jpg
But Ive hit the provebial buffers
Initailly i added an advanced filter as shown here:
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/custom-reporting-with-filtercopy.jpg
but the advanced filters do not stick / save. As soon as you exit the custom report the advanced filter is cleared as shown here:
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/custom-reporting-filter-removedcopy.jpg
I then added a filter under a specific custom tab but the filter cascades into all the reporting tabs see below:
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc53/zymurgy_bucket/custom-reporting-cascading-filterscopy.jpg
So my question is please...
"How do can you set up filters that effect the data in one reporting tab and does not cascade into the others"
Any insights welcome

Hi Doug, ive since dumped custom reports and got much more joy out of the widget dashboard reporting

I had the same issue and ended up creating separate reports. It's not exactly intuitive behaviour!

Was Google Analytics and Adsense Down Today?
For the last 4 hours of so we were registering zero users and Adsense reporting has not changed. We checked the site, and there were no problems. It seems for some reason there was no reporting. Just now it came back up and we are showing live traffic. Trying to figure out if this was a problem specific to us or if it is on Google's end. Thanks,

How do I setup a logged-in vs. non logged-in custom variable in Google Analytics?
I found an example of the snippet to use: __gaq.push(['.setCustomVar,

Tracking Google places (7 pack listing) traffic in google analytics
Is there a way to see Google Places traffic (traffic from users clicking through the 7 pack listings) segmented in Google analytics ? Normally is it just lumped together with the organic traffic ? Can you see the search phrases used to find your site, or do they also show up under 'not provided' when from Google Places. Im aware i can see some limited data in the Google Places analytics, but these seem to be 2 days behind when ever i view them.

Why is Google Analytics reporting 20% fewer goals than Unique pageviews of same thank you page?
This is really puzzling me and my research has not thrown out the answer. I have always understood URL goals to be unique pageviews of the thank you page you are tracking. UPVs and goals should both only be counted once per session... Has anyone else seen this issue? Goals were not set up historically so I wanted to use unique pageviews of the thank you page for year on year comparisons, but 20% is a big difference! Background There are multiple pages to track so goal is set up using Regex There is no mistake in the goal set up (honest!) The goal URLs all match the unique pageview URLs, there are no rogue URLs There has been no change to the site or the tracking set up Data is not being sampled It's a lead gen site in an area where multiple enquiries within one visit would be very unusual Thanks in advance!

Where are google analytics stats for iphone4
hi We were looking at the Google Analytics for one of our sites and noticed that there were NO pageviews from device=iphone and resolution=640x960 in the report. Given that iphone4 is supposed to be 640x960, and would be the most popular device (at least in our offices and everyone I know), it seems wierd. I sorted the Mobile Devices report by device and resolution to see what was available. The first 160 results were all device=not set. Finally got to device=iPhone and there were three entries: resolution 0x0 had 11 views resolution 320x396 had 45 views resolution 320x480 had 3,944 views. Hopefully all iphone4 users havent been classified as not set. Or is it possible that iphone4s claim to be 320x480 in browsers, as per http://www.alistapart.com/articles/a-pixel-identity-crisis/ Even worse, if I look at the Samsung Galaxy S II (myown phone), there are over 30 screen resolution combinations. Does anyone have anything to shed on this? I asked about it on the google analytics twitter account last week but havent had a response. Are there other analytics solutions that would distinguish between the iphones? Warning - this is a link to a large image, with the not set stats at the top. 6Sjji

Duplicate content? Split URLs? I don't know what to call this but it's seriously messing up my Google Analytics reports
Hi Friends, This issue is crimping my analytics efforts and I really need some help. I just don't trust the analytics data at this point. I don't know if my problem should be called duplicate content or what, but the SEOmoz crawler shows the following URLS (below) on my nonprofit's website. These are all versions of our main landing pages, and all google analytics data is getting split between them. For instance, I'll get stats for the /camp page and different stats for the /camp/ page. In order to make my report I need to consolidate the 2 sets of stats and re-do all the calculations. My CMS is looking into the issue and has supposedly set up redirects to the pages w/out the trailing slash, but they said that setting up the "ref canonical" is not relevant to our situation. If anyone has insights or suggestions I would be grateful to hear them. I'm at my wit's end (and it was a short journey from my wit's beginning ...) Thanks. Do Google Analytics filters affect link building?
We recently made a few link wheels for specific product pages. We've been having great results with all of the wheels except for one. The one we are having issues with is the only link that we were using a Google Analytics filter on; it looks like this http://domain.com/page.htm?zSource=Specific Keyword%tracking My question is does Google ignore links that are obviously utilizing their analyitcs custom filters? We're doing some more testing to try to find out if it truly is the link or if the wheel is a bad one. There are so many things that could go wrong but with so many of our link wheels working well, I wonder if the filters are what is causing such results.

Do Google penalise you for having too many 404's?
Hi There I have been doing some work reducing the number of 404's displayed in the Crawl Errors found in Googles Webmaster Tools. We had a lot of products that were no longer available so have now been removed to reduce the number of 404s that had been found. However, there are a number of URLs that have been crawled that do not exist on our website and have been flagged in the list of Crawl Errors. I want to know if Google will penalise us for this, perhaps affecting our quality score or if they can see that this is something out of our control. This site for example: http://sibd.com/com_offers_unique_gifts.html has generated a lot of truncated URLs on its site that link to pages that don't exist on our site: http://www.arenaflowers.com/flowers/pri… That is the exact link that it is trying to locate. Here is the report for that particular link. As you can see the content has been scraped by other sites which has spread the problem further. Pages that link to http://www.arenaflowers.com/flowers/pri.. URL Discovery Date

Sep 9, 2011 I have spotted a lot of these and currently have around 3.3K 404s in total, a majority are from sites we don't control. Is there an acceptable number of 404s a site should aim for and is the above something we should address or are Google smart enough to work out that we can't fix this ourselves? Thanks! Sam.0
