Increase Search Ranking for CEO
-
Hi guys
My company CEO is concerned that when her name is googled pictures of a glamour model appear in the image results area.
The glamour model shares a second name with our CEO and this is why the model's images are appearing.
I have been asked to rectify this situation.
My CEO has a linked in page and twitter account which are underused but no personal page on our company website.
I was thinking of buying the url for the CEO's name and optimizing a small site for her name with bio etc and links to twitter, lined in etc. Would this be the best strategy?
Thanks
Gavin

I might do a combo of adding a page to the company website's about section, as the company site already has domain authority and could easily rank well. For example, if you do a search for "Rand Fishkin" his SEOmoz bio is the first thing to show up in the SERPS: http://www.seomoz.org/team/randfish. Make sure to link that page to any other page on the web about her.
It also wouldn't hurt to set up a simple website with her matching name domain (for example mine is http://jensablelopez.com - that other pesky Jennifer Lopez has all other domains taken up.) and make sure that site links to the company about page as well as social channels.
But if you want the images to change, then make sure that the images on the company website and the new domain, as well as the social sites really, are all optimized for her exact name. Make sure the image name is her name and the alt text is her name and any links.
I'd also set up a google+ account and add a few images of her that she's ok with and tag herself in them. Google is showing G+ images in image search now and this is a good way to get your photos out there.
Hope that helps!

That's understandable. Just be sure to communicate the realistic chances of out ranking that glamour model on each keyword related to your CEOs name. I don't know how popular this model is, but it's probably going to be difficult. Once you've communicated how hard this is going to be, your CEO may be open to more creative solutions.
Unless you're in an industry that requires you to be super "family friendly", I think that your CEO will get more out of embracing the joke than out of denying any connection with the model.

Thanks Mat
Thats exactly the result I'm after. I'll give this a go and try.
Thanks

Another fantastic example of the power of exact match domain name. Nice.

Thanks Micah
I'd be happy to take that idea forward, however would have trouble convincing my CEO!

That's going to be a tough one. Beautiful people are popular on the internet. It's just a fact. There's probably quite a bit of anchor text links containing that last name, pointing at pictures of the glamour model. There's probably also a large volume of searches looking for that glamour model, compared to a fairly small number of searches looking for your CEO.
My advice is to make it a joke, and become part of the joke. Do your idea of a website with a URL containing the CEOs name, and optimize it for the CEOs name, etc. On the site, post a pic of the glamour model. Post some copy that says something like "Apparently, I share my last name with a glamour model. I don't actually look like that. If you were looking for the glamour model pictured on the right, and not a CEO with X years of experience in the X industry, click on the picture. If you want to learn more about X CEO and my insights into the X industry, click here for my blog."

It's a good plan, although if the "competing" picture isn't an exact name match then it might not be needed.
If the CEO has their picture of a well linked page on the main site ("about us" usually does the trick) that is a good start. Have the image name match the search term and be sure to use the alt tag as well. Also have the exact term on page. Links (mentioning the target phrase) are always helpful as well.
Here is a good example of how it is done: Search for "best looking man in the world". You'll probably get some image results including some predictably polished looking gents. However there is also one pasty looking capped Canadian there - a nice chap called Joel. See what he was up to at bestlookingmanintheworld.com

Search Console Indexed Page Count vs Site:Search Operator page count
We launched a new site and Google Search Console is showing 39 pages have been indexed. When I perform a Site:myurl.com search I see over 100 pages that appear to be indexed. Which is correct and why is there a discrepancy? Also, Search Console Page Index count started at 39 pages on 5/21 and has not increased even though we have hundreds of pages to index. But I do see more results each week from Site:psglearning.com My site is https://wwww.psglearning.com

Unknown Subdomains Ranking
In spot checking some pages that I recently launched, I found subdomains ranking in place of the domain. The strange thing is, we never set up these sub-domains and they don't exist on our server. The pages, though they're indexed with the proper title and meta-description, time out when clicked. We're operating on Drupal 7, pages launched at the beginning of the month. The other pages within the series of content are ranking properly. Any thoughts or tips to resolve this?

Google Search Results Display URL
Our urls show as www.domain.com/getproduct.aspx?productid=48376 (url #1) in Google search results. When you click on the link and go to the site the URL is www.domain.com/product-name.aspx (url #2) I checked in Google Webmaster Tools (Fetch as Google) and there is a 302 redirect from url #1 to url #2. It also shows a Set-Cookie value, ASP.NET_SessionID= If we make it a 301 redirect instead, will the url displayed in Google search results be the url #2? We need to get rid of the Set-Cookie for crawlers correct?

301 redirect and search engines
How long until 301 redirects get recognized by search engines? I noticed my link on Google isn't forwarding over to my new domain even after the 301 redirect. If I go to the site directly, the 301 redirect works. Anyone know how long it takes for search engines to pick it up? Thanks!

Optimising multiple pages for the same search term
We were having a discussion on title tags and optimising multiple pages for the same term. We rank well for the phrase 'chanel glasses' which points to our Chanel brand page. The Chanel brand page is optimised for this term, and has the phrase 'Chanel glasses' at the front of its title tag. Previously, the title tag on our home page had the words 'Chanel glasses' at the start in an attempt to rank twice for the term (as one of our competitors has managed). This never worked (though at the time, our DA/PA was lower than it is now). For this reason I switched the title tag on the homepage to try and rank for 'designer glasses'. My belief is, given we already rank highly for the term on a more relevant landing page, trying to rank for it again on the home page is not the best use of a title tag on our highest PA page. We may as well use it for something more generic like 'designer glasses' (though this term does not convert nearly as well, nor does it currently rank as well for us as we've not been attempting to get 'designer glasses' as anchor text. Plus it's more competitive. Another generic term maybe be preferable). My colleague's view is we should attempt to do what our competitor has done and try and rank twice on page one for this term. I like the idea of dominating the top results, but I feel that since attempting to get double-listed hasn't worked for us so far, we should use the homepage for optimising for a different term ( ideally something that we don't already rank for elsewhere on the site). I see his point of view - if we were ranking nowhere for the search term then, yes we should concentrate on getting one page to rank, not two. But since we already rank well for the term, perhaps his strategy is preferable? Just for clarity, the title tags are not duplicate, but the idea was to share many of the same keywords between the two title tags. What are your thoughts SEOmoz?

Search Engine Blocked by Robot Txt warnings for Filter Search result pages--Why?
Hi, We're getting 'Yellow' Search Engine Blocked by Robot Txt warnings for URLS that are in effect product search filter result pages (see link below) on our Magento ecommerce shop. Our Robot txt file to my mind is correctly set up i.e. we would not want Google to index these pages. So why does SeoMoz flag this type of page as a warning? Is there any implication for our ranking? Is there anything we need to do about this? Thanks. Here is an example url that SEOMOZ thinks that the search engines can't see. http://www.site.com/audio-books/audio-books-in-english?audiobook_genre=132 Below are the current entries for the robot.txt file.
