How to move many domains form an address to another?
-
We need to move a site from a domain to another one, and there are also hundreds or even thousands of subdomains to move.
What would be the best practise to do it in order to save at least some of the visibility in search results?
-
The only consequence is that a 301 will pass most but not all of the link juice through to the new page.
It is quite common after site redesigns etc to have lots of 301's in place.
You may want to check out the Web Site Migration Guide blog post, it is extremely comprehensive and certainly worth a read before you embark on the transfer process.

Thank you Justin, you are right and that's the way we've planned to proceed.
I'm just wondering what kind of consequences it might cause if there are suddenly plenty of 301 redirections.

Your best bet is to do a 301 redirect from the old domains to the new one.
A 301 will preserve most but not all of the link weighting etc from the old domain to the new one.
Before you redirect the domain, I would personally check it thru Open Site Explorer and if the domain has a questionable back link profile you may consider not redirecting it to the new site as as well as a 301 will take over the good as well as the bad.
If the site structure and URLs on sub pages change you may want to consider doing page by page redirects (ie olddomain/page1.html -> newdomain/pagexx.html) depending on how important or valuable the existing pages were to you in the SERPs. Page by page is the best route although much more time consuming than domain level redirects.
SEOmoz have a best practices guide on redirects which covers pretty much all you need to know

'domain:example.com/' is this line with a '/' at the end of the domain valid in a disavow report file ?
Hi everyone Just out of curiosity, what would happen if in my disavow report I have this line : domain:example.com**/** instead of domain:example.com as recommended by google. I was just wondering if adding a / at the end of a domain would automatically render the line invalid and ignored by Google's disavow backlinks tool. Many thanks for your thoughts

How should I set up a domain redirect
A client has 2 domains that he wants to use for the same site. At the moment one domain is just an abbreviation of the main domain (not sure why) as follows: www.mygreatpropertycompany.com

www.mgpc.com (just redirects to the above) He is complaining that when he searches for 'mpc' there are no results (at all) so I'm wondering what the best approach is.There is currently nothing on the main domain that refers to 'mgpc' in it's abbreviated sense - the only place it's being used is the company's email addresses (info@mgpc.com). The redirect is simply a html file in the root of www.mgpc.com as follows: Is there anything I can do to help him out? (this is one of those 'doing a friend a favour' tasks!) Thanks!0 -
Brand domain not in 1st page
Hi, I've made an e-commerce (drsebagh.it) for the italian division of the brand Dr Sebagh. Now if I search the brand query on google.it (https://www.google.it/search?q=dr+sebagh&oq=dr+sebagh&aqs=chrome.0.69i59l3j0l3.1352j0j4&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=91&ie=UTF-8) the site is around the 3rd serp. I can't find where problems are. No duplicate content (as my client says and Copyscape Free seems to confirm that) also Webmaster Tools doesn't signal errors... Can someone helps me to do a quickly check?

Domain authority not showing on root domain?
I was going through our site earlier w/ the mozBar (still learning the tools, new here) and saw the attached image. There were far more links to the subdomain (#s on the left) than the root domain (#s on right). This is strange to me, because we are not using any subdomains. All links point to either our root domain or subfolders off our root domain. Is this hurting our ranking for the root domain? Not sure what's up with this. Zz9j0.jpg

How to move a site slowly
I've got a site that I started back in 2001 (www.jaaroncaststone.com) to sell what I was making, concrete countertops and sinks. Well we're going to be discontinuing the concrete products in a month or so and want to start pointing all the links from the old site to a new one dedicated to a single product (www.jaaron-wood-countertops.com). I don't want to do a full 301 on the old site just yet but can I put a canonical tag on the index and about us pages pointing to the new site now so the search engines start looking that way or should I wait and do a full 301 when the day comes to pull the old site?

Moving forum to subfolder
Hi, we're thinking of moving our very well established forum to a subfolder on our main domain. I have read that this would be much better for seo reasons/domain authority rather than using a sub domain. Is this correct? Our forum has 15,000 users and gets roughly over 502,087 impressions from 101,147 visits a month. Thanks, James

Domain Alias
I have a client that picked up a bunch of keyword rich domain names and he wants to point them to his current corporate site as domain aliases. Could this in anyway negatively or positively effect his SEO? or ranking? Thanks - Kyle Chandler
