Google Quality Algorithm Update
-
I'm curious what correlations or impacting variables SEO professionals have found that have increased or decreased ranking with the most recent algorithm change. It appears that many innocent sites have fallen victim, especially larger sites. It also appears that Google is maintaining that specific sites were not targeted... Meaning there must be proven characteristics.
-
So is the solution for stem queries to attack offsite with increased relevant, promoted content? Or is it also 'fattening' relevant content on page?
-
This is the general advice that I continue to see that doesn't have any definition whatsoever... 1. What is keyword stuffing as defined by this algorithm change and compared to actual search results that have been promoted or demoted? 2. How can Google possibly define quality without investigating and rooting out specific domains... Which they insist they are not doing? 3. Define useful and not useful in a quantitative manner that Google can measure? 4. Navigation issues impacted sites before the change? Are you saying navigation issues (404s?) have MORE of an impact since?

Douglas,
Actually, I was reading up a few articles on the same topic and I came across these. They may help you better understand what the update was like.
How innocent websites were targeted:
http://www.searchenginejournal.com/the-farmer-update-harmed-codependent-site-owners/28248/
Search Engine Land's view:
http://searchengineland.com/google-trying-to-minimize-collateral-damage-from-farmer-update-66495
It seems that websites with large amount of user content which were not very tightly moderated fell prey to this update. As with all algorithms, this update has its share of problems.
One is still to understand why ehow wasnt penalized whereas websites like business.com were.
One thing is for sure:
Do not stuff keywords into your content for SEO
dont put up low quality content
post only original content sueful to real users
#solve all faceted navigation issues (which is largely a problem of large ecommerce websites)

We've seen a significant decrease in google.com traffic for stem query terms like [botox] and [invisalign]. We have an active community with tens of thousands of cosmetic treatment reviews, photos and Q&A, so we're not a shallow scraper site.
I don't think we've been specifically punished. Instead, it looks like Google simply reset the difficulty of competing for commercial stem query terms back to what it was in 2008. I looked at google traffic by keyword between the end of February 2009 and the last few days, and it seemed clear that our overall traffic has increased significantly but most of that traffic has been for long tail searches. Traffic for stem query terms are generally flat or down.
In January and early February, we were ranking on page 1 for many of those commercial stem query terms for the first time, but it looks like those days are over.

Fake Links indexing in google
Hello everyone, I have an interesting situation occurring here, and hoping maybe someone here has seen something of this nature or be able to offer some sort of advice. So, we recently installed a wordpress to a subdomain for our business and have been blogging through it. We added the google webmaster tools meta tag and I've noticed an increase in 404 links. I brought this up to or server admin, and he verified that there were a lot of ip's pinging our server looking for these links that don't exist. We've combed through our server files and nothing seems to be compromised. Today, we noticed that when you do site:ourdomain.com into google the subdomain with wordpress shows hundreds of these fake links, that when you visit them, return a 404 page. Just curious if anyone has seen anything like this, what it may be, how we can stop it, could it negatively impact us in anyway? Should we even worry about it? Here's the link to the google results. https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Amshowells.com&oq=site%3A&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j69i58.1905j0j1&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=91&ie=UTF-8 (odd links show up on pages 2-3+)

No existing pages in Google index
I have a real estate portal. I have a few categories - for example: flats, houses etc. Url of category looks like that: mydomain.com/flats/?page=1 Each category has about 30-40 pages - BUT in Google index I found url like: mydomain.com/flats/?page=1350 Can you explain it? This url contains just headline etc - but no content! (it´s just generated page by PHP) How is it possible, that Google can find and index these pages? (on the web, there are no backlinks on these pages) thanks

How do I get out of google bomb?
Hi all, I have a website named bijouxroom.com; and I was in the 7th page for the search term takı in google; and 2nd page for online takı. Now, I see that in one day my results seem to be on the 13th and 10th page in google respectively. I made too much anchor text for takı and online takı. What shall I do to gain my positions back? Thanks in advance. Regards,

Google Trusted Ranking effect?
We are looking into getting the google Trusted badge. We meet the requirements and now just deciding if it is worth the time to do it now or later. Has anyone noticed a difference in your organic rankings or PLAs with it. What about conversion rates? Any input would be great!

How is Google finding our preview subdomains?
I've noticed that Google is able to find, crawl and index preview subdomains we set up for new client sites (e.g. clientpreview.example.com). I know now to use "meta name="robots" and robots.txt) to block the search engines from crawling these subdomains. My question though, is how is Google finding these subdomains? We don't link to these preview domains from anywhere else, so I can't figure out how Google is even getting there. Does anybody have any insight on this?

I have this in the head of my website: <meta name='<a class="attribute-value">description</a>' content='<a class="attribute-value">Free and Custom IPB Skins for Invision Power Board.</a>'/> Yet when I google 'ipbskinning' it says: Solid Skins. 1We test all our skins in all browsers to insure that they are compatible. This ensures that your users have the best user experience. which is random text from the content of my site. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks a lot all
