Does a scrolling text area carry juice?
-
I'm seeing a lot of companies in my industry loading the homepage with text by using a scrolling text area. Do the search engines see this as valid text or is it a cloaking method that carries less weight?
-
I just did a little deeper look into the code of the competitor websites. They are using a css in the code:
This creates a scrolling text box on the homepage. I've included the code on one of my home pages and we'll see if it effects my results at all.

I think these are usually iframes. Google can see them and I have been told they carry weight (http://www.wolf-howl.com/) , but they are also said to not carry any weight (bruce clay).

Infinite scroll SEO
I was curious about the implications of Infinite scroll homepages on SEO, and more specifically, no-indexing subpages of the homepage (ie www.homepage.com/page/2/ ). I know its often a good practice to noindex subpages of archives, but in this case, would it be a bad idea? Thanks!

Removing text from Homepage - Bad idea?
Hi Mozzers, I've just read this great article: http://moz.com/ugc/how-to-build-a-great-online-fashion-brand-34-things-that-really-amazing-fashion-retailers-do I'm working with my wife on a small (hopefully, growing) fashion website www.vintageeheirloom.com One of the points was not to directly sell on the homepage, rather draw customers into different areas of the site. Seems good advice and it's followed by many big brands online. As a small company, doing fairly well for some targeted keywords, do you think it would be a good or bad idea for me to remove most, or all of the text on my homepage. The main emphasis of our site is vintage Chanel and using the tool nTopic I score 99% relevancy for 'Vintage Chanel'. Removing would certainly affect this. Obviously I could amend my Vintage Chanel shopping category to include all this. I'd be grateful if you have any thoughts / similar experience. Thanks ! Kevin

Anchor Texts on Internal Links on my Site Question
[Hey folks, Anchor text question for internal links on my site. We all know that proper anchor text is important for rankings, both in links pointing to your site and links on your site. Google webmaster tools is showing my top internal anchor text links to be letters. This is because of navigation on the site which is in a global footer on hundreds of thousands of pages. Do you think that this dilutes or minimizes the relevance of the real anchor texts that we are targeting which trail behind these, or if this went away it would have no effect on the rest of the anchor texts on the site. How would you handle this, we can just get rid of this navigation because it's passing PR and helping the pages get spidered. Thanks in advance. Change Homepage internal Link from Image to Targeted Anchor Text -- Spam??
I am in the following situation: 1. Homepage is designed to target one main keyword. 2. All current pages link to the homepage with the image/logo, nowhere on the site do we link to the homepage with the target keyword. 3. It is an established page (Moz rank of 58) If I suddenly added text above and made the homepage link targeted anchor text, would Google consider this spam? We are ranked #13 in Google and our looking for ways to move up, but I do not want to risk any type of Google penalty.

Does link text "more information" have more weight than a normal link?
Does the anchor text "more information" hold any additional weight than any other anchor text? My suspicion is no, but just wanted to confirm.

Anchor text, same page, different kewords to same URLs
Could someone please tell how Google treats the use of anchor text from a single page when using different keywords that all point to the same URL. So for instance I am doing a blog post and use the following anchor text which all point to the same URL: Cool Widget >> www.domain.com/widget Awesome Widget >> www.domain.com/widget Mighty Widget >> www.domain.com/widget I have read that Google will only take noticeof the first one? Thanks
