Page Views Plummeted
-
Since using SEOMoz to diagnose and address issues with my site www.esecaucus.com, my page views have plummeted while my number of visits and unique visitors has remained intact.
Does this mean that previously the amount of page views were artificially inflated by some kind of technical error in the site?
-
Is it possible that you had the Google Analytics JavaScript code loading on those redirect pages before they actually redirected? Then you would have had inflated pageviews, since you'd get a count for the first URL and a count for the second.
-
The only code change made was having the right sidebar added to post pages, though I can't see how that would impact the pageviews.
-
There are many possibilities for inflated page-views like an iframe or ajax calls. Check to see if you had any code changes during this time.
-
I'm using Google Analytics and the primary issues I address were too many redirects and too many pages with the same title tag.

Hi Carl,
What issues have you addressed since using SEOmoz? And what web analytics program are you using?

Will changing the property from http to https in Google Analytics affect main unfiltered view?
I set my client up with an unfiltered view in Google Analytics. This is the one with historical data going back for years, so I don't want to do anything that will affect this view. Recently, the website moved from HTTP to HTTPS. There's a setting for the property that will allow me to change the property name to https://EXAMPLE.com and change the default URL to https://EXAMPLE.com. Questions: 1. If I change the property name and the default URL, will this somehow affect my unfiltered view in a way that I'll lose historical data or data moving forward? 2. I have heard that changing the default URL to HTTPS will help me avoid a common problem others have experienced (where they lose the referrer in Google Analytics and a bunch of their sessions go to direct / other). Is this true?

How can I easily combine moz page difficulty, google search volume and SERPS position?
I want to produce an excel spreadsheet that I can use to identify the best use of my content Writing time. So Looking at a keyword list I want Current SERPS to show me where I am now? moz page difficulty score to show how hard I'll have to work google traffic estimate so that I can see the potential payoff. I can can generate all these separately but combining them is a huge time waster as invariably the results don't come back in quiet the same order and a line by line check is required. Part of the reason for doing this is keyword exploration so that we can find new niches by generating hundreds or thousands of keywords to test.

When analysing my inbound anchor text am I using by page or site?
When checking to see my anchor text profile to make sure it's not too dense with the same phrases, should I be measuring against my whole site or page specific? eg if i have 100 links across my site and 20 are for the same phrase this is 20%, but if the same 20 phrases are to one page and that page has 40 links this is 55% Many thanks Ash

Switch to www from non www preference negatively hit # pages indexed
I have a client whose site did not use the www preference but rather the non www form of the url. We were having trouble seeing some high quality inlinks and I wondered if the redirect to the non www site from the links was making it hard for us to track. After some reading, it seemed we should be using the www version for better SEO anyway so I made a change on Monday but had a major hit to the number of pages being indexed by Thursday. Freaking me out mildly. What are people's thoughts? I think I should roll back the www change asap - or am I jumping the gun?

Page Retirement
I have a site with 6000 indexed urls. 1,500 have traffic I feel is valuable and 4,500 with almost no traffic (perhaps less than 10 page views in a year). These 4500 are inedxed but have 1 or less in bound links. If I retire the pages, will I help or hurt my Domain Authority and separately my rankings that could produce traffic? I'd appreciate any consideration. Jeffrey Strassman www.consultant360.com
