Experiences with event rich snippets?
-
We've recently (in the past 6 months) implemented rich snippets into one of our websites, which lists events around the USA. We've run our code through Google's testing tools and all looks good. When we search for terms which we compete for, many of our competitors display the event sub-links in the SERPs but we still do not.
Does anyone have any experience with rich snippets with regards to whether site reputation or (we're a new website) others factors will impact if/when google will display our rich snippets in search results?
Thanks!

I have heard of this problem before. I was about to pitch a client of setting up snippets in their ecommerce site but decided againt it because I didnt want to be held resoponsible when they invest in the development hours and Google refuses to display them for a year.
Is this common? Anyone else had similar experiences.

Thanks for the reply. I sort of figured that it would take some time, especially with us being a new website. Just didn't want to sit back and wait if there was something we could be doing.
thx.

Hi there, we had exactly the same problem, for a hotel review website. (otelsikayet.com)
It took Google to start showing the starts and number of comments 8 months. I am not sure if there is a way to accelerate this process, but we contacted a few people from Google but it did not help. Then afteer 8 months suddenly the SERPs started shoing our snippets.
I hope this helps.

Has anyone experience with deoptimising a homepage to alter landing page?
Our home page is ranking for a group of search terms even though we have dedicated landings pages for them that have higher on-page scores. The home page is optimised for a base search term, i.e. "Product", and the landing pages for variations, so "Product Variation A", "Product Variation B" and so on. The home page has a slight higher PA than the intended landing pages. We are tempted to de-optimise the home page, however, the fear is that we simply lose our positions entirely. Anyone tried this before? THANKS

Rich Snippets Not Displaying - Price Error?
We recently implemented Schema.org/product on our site (www.evo.com). In the Google Webmaster Tools Structured Data report we’re getting lots of errors: http://screencast.com/t/Z3QJBctjUvP which I believe is preventing our rich snippets (price, availability, ratings) from showing in search results. When I click into the “Product” data type on the Structured Data report I see that there’s 2 errors: missing price and missing best or worst rating: http://screencast.com/t/SuHVYFLFO5D We are adding the itemprop=“bestRating” code which should take care of the ‘missing best or worst rating’ error. The missing price error is what I want to ask about. There’s a couple strange things here (using this URL as example : http://www.evo.com/skis/line-sir-francis-bacon.aspx - which has been indexed since the code was added): 1) The Webmaster Tools report is finding the schema.org/offer data type and is recognizing the InStock and OutOfStock property of this: http://screencast.com/t/xtHouzeL37q BUT price is not being detected. 2) When I enter the URL into the Structured Data Testing Tool it does detect price: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?url=http://www.evo.com/skis/line-sir-francis-bacon.aspx 3) When I fetch the page as GoogleBot itemprop=“price”is present: http://screencast.com/t/Hnqda95N My hunch is that the reason our Rich Snippets are not showing is because of the “price” error. The “?” by the error in WMT says: “This property is missing in the html markup or was not properly highlighted in the Data Highlighter. This can prevent the rich snippet from appearing” Does anyone have an idea why we’re getting the “price” error – or anything else that could prevent our Rich Snippets from displaying? Thanks so much! http://screencast.com/t/SuHVYFLFO5D

After Ranking Drop Continue SEO or Focus on Improving User Experience Instead?
Six months after starting a marketing campaign and spending a lot of money on SEO audits, link removals, wire frames, copywriting and coding my web site (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com) traffic dropped significantly after I launched a new version of my site in early June. Traffic is down about 27%, but most of the traffic from competitive terms is gone and the number of leads (phone calls, form completions) is off by about 70%. On june 6th an upgraded version of the site with mostly cosmetic changes (narrower header without social media buttons, streamlined conversion forms, new right rail was launched. No URLs were changed, and the text remained mostly the same. But somehow my developers botched up either canonical tags or Robot Text and 175 URLs with very little/no content were indexed by Google. At that point my ranking and traffic. A few days ago a request to remove those pages was made via Google WebmasterTools and now the number of pages indexed is down to 675 rather than the incorrect 850 from before. But ranking, traffic and lead generation have not yet recovered. After spending almost $25,000 over nine months this is rather frustrating. I might add the site has very few links from incoming domains and those links are not high quality. An SEO audit was performed in February and in April a link removal campaign occurred with about 30 domains agreeing to remove links and a disavow file being submitted for another 70-80 domains that would not agree to remove links. My SEO believes that we should focus on improving visitor engagement rather that on more esoteric SEO like trying to build incoming links. They think that improving useability will improve conversions and would generate results faster than traditional SEO. Also, they think that improving click through rates, reducing bounce rates will improve ranking by signaling to Google that the site is providing value to visitors. Does this sound like a reasonable approach? On one hand I don't see how my site with a MOZ domain authority could possibly compete against sites with a high number of quality incoming links and that maybe building a better link profile would yield faster results. On the other hand, it seems logical that Google would reward a site that creates a better user experience. Any thoughts from the MOZ community???? Does it sound like the recent loss of traffic is due to the indexing of the 175 pages? If so, when should my traffic and ranking return? Incidentally, these are the steps taken since last November to improve SEO: SEO Traffic & Ranking Drop Analysis and Recommendations (included in-depth SEO technical audit and recommendations). Unnatural Link Removal Program Content Optimization (Audit & Strategy with 20 page keyword matrix) CORE (also provided wireframe for /visitor-details pages at no-charge) SEO Copywriting for 10 pages New wire frames implemented on site on June 6th Jump in indexed pages by 175 on June 10th. Google Webmaster Tools removal request made for those low quality pages on June 23rd. Thanks, Alan

Blog snippets on homepage a potential detriment to rankings?
Hey guys, I realize similar topics have surfaced before, but mainly related to duplicate content penalties, which is not my concern in this case. My client is parsing blog snippets to the home page; actually 3 large snippets consisting of of approximately 200 words each. They create at least one fresh blog post per month pertaining to the specific industry. I realize this practice has widely embraced to satisfy the "freshness factor" but I am concerned it could be hindering the ability for the home page to rank for our two targeted phrases. It would seem that by continually rotating the blog snippets which contain content related to the industry, but not necessarily relevant to the home page's targeted key phrases - combined with the fact that the home page has very slim static content - the bots are attempting to assign new taxonomies of information on a monthly basis. My thoughts are to create a decent block of static content highly-relevant to the home page's target phrases, while reducing the amount of info. contained in the blog snippets, to perhaps only a headline and date. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

Bad neighborhood linking - anyone can share experience how significant it can impact rankings?
SEOMoz community, If you have followed our latest Q&A posts you know by now that we have been suffering since the last 8 months from a severe Google penalty we are still trying to resolve. Our international portfolio of sports properties has suffered significant ranking losses across the board. While we have been tediously trying to troubleshoot the problem for a while now we might be up to a hot lead now. We realized that one of the properties outside of our key properties, but are site that our key properties are heavily linking to (+100 outgoing links per property) seems to have received a significant Google penalty in a sense that it has been completely delisted from the Google index and lost all its PageRank (Pr4) While we are buffed to see such sort of delisting, we are hopeful that this might be the core of our experienced issues in the past i.e. that our key properties have been devalued due to heavy linking to a bad neighborhood site. My question two the community are two-fold: Can anyone share any experience if it is indeed considered possible that a high number of external links to one bad neighboorhood domain can cause significant ranking drops in the rank from being top 3 ranked to be ranked at around a 140 for a competetive key word? The busted site has a large set of high quality external links. If we swap domains is there any way to port over any link juice or will the penalty be passed along? If that is the case I assume the best approach would be to reach out to all the link authorities and have tem link to the new domain instead of the busted site? Thanks /Thomas

Why is my site's 'Rich Snippets' information not being displayed in SERPs?
We added hRecipe microformats data to our site in April and then migrated to the Schema.org Recipe format in July, but our content is still not being displayed as Rich Snippets in search engine results. Our pages validate okay in the Google Rich Snippets Testing Tool. Any idea why they are not being displayed in SERP's? Thanks.

Keyword-Rich Domains - Redirect?
Hi, Mozzers- I have a client that has a bunch of pretty nice keyword-rich domain names. Their traffic and rankings are good. They provide legal services in the Chicago area. I have lots of good content that I could use to start a blog using a domain like keyword,keyword-blog.com. Good idea? Currently I have a resources area on their website but feel like this area could be getting a little bloated and some news-related stuff isn't really appropriate. 2 Questions: Should I use one of the decent domains for a blog and build up the rankings, traffic, and link to the main site? Or is this lots of work for little payout? Both sites would be hosted in the cloud. Some of the domain names are related to their name, others are keyword or geo-targeted. Would it be wise to setup 301 redirects going to their website? Pros/cons? If you need additional info, please PM me for details. Thank you, friends! LHC
