Should "white label" sites be unique IP addresses?
-
My company is planning "white label" subsites with unique URLs.
Should these sites be unique IPs in order to use them for link building?
-
Hi,
Just to clarify - my company sells geo-location specific products that can usually only be sold to people living in the local country. The sites will therefore be something such as:
Widgets in Australia
Widgets in UK
Widgets in South Africa
Do you think having them be hosting on separate IPs be a high priority (currently they are scheduled to all be hosted on the same IP and changing the strategy will be one of those SEO vs R&D discussions)
-
Sara, I would strongly recommend to stay away from doing 30-40. That's a little too many. If you are doing sites like:
Red Widgets
Blue Widgets
Green Widgets
I would recommend them being combined into 1 Widget site, Widget.com/Red-Widgers, Widget.com/Blue Widgets and so on.
And considering this, if we are talking about 2-5, yes, it would make complete sense to host them on separate IPs.
I hope this helps.

They are more like satellite sites. We are starting with 2 sites but it will probably be about 30-40 within the next year.
-
Sara, are you talking about microsites/satellite sites or mini-sites intended to promote a specific set of products, contest, sweepstakes or a promotion ? How many sites are you talking about ?

Robots.txt Question for E-Commerce Sites
Hi All, I have a couple of e-commerce clients and have a question about URLs. When you perform a search on website all URLs contain a question mark, for example: /filter.aspx?search=blackout I'm not sure that I want these indexed. Could I be causing any harm/danger if I add this to the robots.txt file? /*? Any suggestions welcome! Gavin

Unsure about improvement of inner sites
Hi ! I want to improve the ranking of Home on my site. Now I did some on-page SEO on Home itself for the keyword "Webdesign Freiburg". How much does it make sense to put this keyword also into inner sites - although I primarily want to rank Home for this keyword? Does Home profit from putting the keyword into subpages? Cheers and thanks Marc

Using rel="nofollow"
Hello, Quick question really, as far as the SERPs are concerned If I had a site with say 180 links on each page - 80 above suggested limit, would putting 'rel="nofollow"' on 80 of these be as good as only having 100 links per page? Currently I have removed the links, but wereally need these as they point to networked sites that we own and are relevant... But we dont want to look spammy... An example of one of the sites without the links can be seen here whereas a site with the links can be seen here You can see the links we are looking to keep (at the bottom) and why... Thanks

Does page "depth" matter
Would it have a negative effect on SEO to have a link from the home page to this page... http://www.website/com/page1deep/page2deep rather than to this page http://www.website/com/page1deep I'm hoping that made some sense. If not I'll try to clarify. Thanks, Mark

Site Redesign: Potential Problems?
We're looking at a cleanup of our site and making our navigation menu simpler and more visual. The problem is there's a massive fear that we will incur some sort of SEO hit at a time when we can ill afford one. The bulk of the changes are around some tertiary pages that have some SEO value but are not primary targets or traffic sources. The pages with content aren't moving URLs or changing, nor is the core content of the site, just the template. The new template, I feel, is easier to navigate and easier to spider (menus are flyout divs with images). So are there any tips or tricks to changing the layout of your site without hurting SEO? Anything we need to avoid?
