Does SEOMoz ever work?
-
Hi, I've signed up for the free 30 day trial and I'm on the edge of not actually subscribing to the service.
I go through the Q & A boards which I find really interesting and hope I can add value there in the future, but the tools interest me more (and this is where the issue lies. Do they ever work?
The Keyword difficulty tool just constantly says to come back in 20 minutes and I don't think the Rank Tracker has worked for at least half my freebie 30 days. Have the tools always been this flaky or is it a blip?

STILL DOES NOT WORK

Hi Ian,
I apologize sincerely for the issues you've seen during your free trial. Sadly, you joined us at a difficult time and I understand that you've had a very frustrating experience, which is never a good way to start out with a tool. I've responded to the help ticket you sent in, but I wanted to follow up here to make sure that you know that your trial period has been extended for another month.
Both the Rank Tracker and Keyword Difficulty tools should be working again, apart from an issue with the AdWords data on the Keyword Difficulty tool. Unfortunately, Google is currently not allowing us to provide that data, but we are working on a solution to provide that information in the future.
To all of the other users that wrote in, thanks for sharing your good experiences with Ian and I apologize again for the difficulties of the past few weeks. We are working on making things better so it is easier for us to recover from these types of machine failures in the future and we truly appreciate your support.
If any user is still experiencing any issues with their campaigns or has any questions about the issues we've had recently, please feel free to write into us at help@seomoz.org.
Thanks again,
Chiaryn

Hi! You're right, we've been having major issues with Rank Tracker. We have also had a message at the top for about 6 months that we are planning on upgrading it and taking away the current Rank Tracker. We hope to have more info on it later today.
-
I have used SEO moz for some time and the rank tracker almost never ever, ever works. That error message at the top of the screen has been there for days now. But even previously before then if it did work after you track a few keywords it stops working anyways. Terrible.
-
Majority of the tools are great. The only one that I dislike is the OSE because of how rarely it is updated (I understand why it is and am not complaining) and because even when it is updated it is often months behind on recognizing or picking up links.
The on page grader is incredible and the ranking tool is great though it crashes about once every 5 runs for me.
-
I have had good results with SEOMoz and find the tools easy to use and the information provided to be easily interpreted.
I would say the most recent issue by far was the outstanding problem to date.....
-
The keyword tracker is giving competetiveness % but no traffic data. Is it sufficient to rely on the Google keyword tool for traffic? Can't see if it's exact match.
-
Used SEOmoz pro off and on for years and this is the first time anything major like this has happened.
-
I've never experienced any issues, except for on occasion and SEOmoz has always been helpful in fixing them.
Well the keyword checker tool is down, I would also suggest two tools that you might want to check out: Open Site Explorer and their new Twitter tool FollowerWonk.
-
Works great! This last week is the first time in 6 months I ever had a problem (with the ranking).
-
Hi Ian, I've had similar experiences to Donford. There have been a few glitches the past month or so but I've never experienced any significant problems in the 6 months previously. Good luck.
-
I've been a member for almost 10 months and last month was the first time anything happened that concerned me with the service. Which from what I understand they are still working on..here is a link to the last blog post.
I certainly understand your concerns and would hope that a well written and understanding email sent to the staff would extend your trial to include some up time on the tools you find the most valuable.
Personally, I spent my first month checking our main pages using the On-page optimization tool, followed by setting up campaigns.
The forums are actually a huge value if you use them. There are some extremely knowledgeable people who continue to post on these forums, this knowledge usually comes at a high price.
The short answer is yes in my experience SEOmoz has worked 90% of the time (10 months -1 month)
Hope that helps and good luck Ian.

Have you added keywords to the Rank Tracker? Took a week or so for the first ranks to pop up when i was on my 30 day trial-period.
Just checked the Keyword Analysis-tool. Same problem here, haven't used it before though. So i can't answer for that feature.
Anyway, i'd email SEOMOZ and explain the problems you have been having, the SEOMOZ-staff usually is very helpful if you have issues.

Functionality of SEOmoz crawl page reports
I am trying to find a way to ask SEOmoz staff to answer this question because I think it is a functionality question so I checked SEOmoz pro resources. I also have had no responses in the Forum too it either. So here it is again. Thanks much for your consideration! Is it possible to configure the SEOMoz Rogerbot error-finding bot (that make the crawl diagnostic reports) to obey the instructions in the individual page headers and http://client.com/robots.txt file? For example, there is a page at http://truthbook.com/quotes/index.cfm month=5&day=14&year=2007 that has – in the header -

So Google should not see them as duplicates right. Google does not in Webmaster Tools.</meta name="robots" content="noindex"> So it should not be counted 3 times? But it seems to be? How do we gen a report of the actual pages shown in the report as dups so we can check? We do not believe Google sees it as a duplicate page but Roger appears too. Similarly, one can use http://truthbook.com/contemplative_prayer/ , here also the http://truthbook.com/robots.txt tells Google to stay clear. Yet we are showing thousands of dup. page content errors when Google Webmaster tools as shown only a few hundred configured as described. Anyone? Jim0 -
Bug with seomoz level display?
Is anyone else seeing people's moz levels shown incorrectly? Spotted this yesterday, but I am getting the same today. Lots of people showing as Aspirant who shouldn't be.

Why does SEOMoz only crawl 1 page of my site?
My site is: www.thetravelingdutchman.com. It has quite a few pages, but for some reason SEOMoz only crawls one. Please advise. Thanks, Jasper

Site Not On Google, SEOmoz shows as 43
The site I'm helping with was at one time a page 1, even #1 on page 1. Lots of changes, problems when someone else did something and dropped to page 4 for keyword. After some recent tweaking I did, it no longer shows on rankings. No penalty on Google Webmaster, in Webmaster tools it shows the sitemap processed with no errors. SEOmoz still shows it at #43 in Rankings. Why does SEOmoz see it, but I don't? Site is www.plussizeplum.com (sorry, plus size women's lingerie) and keywords are "plus size lingerie".

Why are SEOmoz Pro Keyword Ranking reports different between two 301-linked URLs?
Hi, My main domain is www.dancenut.com. I have this 301 URL redirected to www.dancenut.com/boston/. I set up an SEOmoz Pro campaign for each of these URLs in order to see if they were being treated differently in any way. In most cases the report results are identical, or the small differences are understandable. However, there is one big difference between the two sets of campaign reports. In the Keyword Ranking reports, the data for the Bing and Yahoo! reports are identical, but the data for the Google reports are dramatically different. Out of 21 keywords, 9 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com, but only 2 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com/boston/ (the specific positions are the same for the 2 keywords that are listed for both). Does this make any sense? Could the SEOmoz Pro data be wrong? If not, then I'm suspicious that Google may not be interpreting the 301 redirect properly. I don't think this could be fully explained by a 1-10% reduction in link juice due to the 301 because I have one keyword for which my site ranks #1 in Google, Bing, and Yahoo! with www.dancenut.com, but it doesn't even rank in the top 50 in Google with www.dancenut.com/boston/. And why would these differences only exist for Google? Any insight would be much appreciated! Andrew

Is the SEOMOZ rank checker accounting for the mega sitelinks?
Just curious if the SEOMOZ rank checker accounts for the mega sitelinks? Are this counted as separate listings (which would in effect make it report a lower serp position) or are they bundled up with the first result and considered as #1 spot? Thanks

Canonical tags and SEOmoz crawls
Hi there. Recently, we've made some changes to http://www.gear-zone.co.uk/ to implement canonical tags to some dynamically generated pages to stop duplicate content issues. Previously, these were blocked with robots.txt. In Webmaster Tools, everything looks great - pages crawled has shot up, and overall traffic and sales has seen a positive increase. However the SEOmoz crawl report is now showing a huge increase in duplicate content issues. What I'd like to know is whether SEOmoz registers a canonical tag as preventing a piece of duplicate content, or just adds to it the notices report. That is, if I have 10 pages of duplicate content all with correct canonical tags, will I still see 10 errors in the crawl, but also 10 notices showing a canonical has been found? Or, should it be 0 duplicate content errors, but 10 notices of canonicals? I know it's a small point, but it could potentially have a big difference. Thanks!

SEOmoz application suggestion
I would like to suggest the ranking changes be broken into two categories, You and Competition, right now it seems everything is lumped in together... Screen shot attached. Thanks. A24tp.jpg
