Which one should I be using 301 redirects
-
Hiya guys,
I have a little problem, not sure which one I should be using, for 301, be easy on me I've not dealt with this before.
So we have http://www.talknightlife.co.uk
and I've done redirects for http://talknightlife.co.uk to http://www.talknightlife.co.uk
host http://www.talknightlife.sheffieldspeedcameras.co.uk to http://www.talknightlife.co.uk
Because my website is purely a forum and in the canonical error from the optimisation tool is showing 301 canonical = http://www.talknightlife.co.uk/forum.php should I be redirecting that to http://www.talknightlife.co.uk or the other way round, or just leave it ? I'm a little confused
Cheers in advanced for your help guys

You have two options here:
1/ Leave it: You must have rel="canonical" href=" http://www.talknightlife.co.uk" >> it's ok
2/Redirect 301 redirect http://www.talknightlife.co.uk/forum.php to http://www.talknightlife.co.uk if you can't do it, redirect 301 http://www.talknightlife.co.uk to http://www.talknightlife.co.uk/forum.php
(2) better then (1) - My opinion
Add this to your htaccess:
RewriteEngine on
# forum.php to /
*RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^[A-Z]{3,9}\ /.forum.php\ HTTP/** RewriteRule ^(.*)forum.php$ /$1 [R=301,L]**
It's work for me !

thats my solution too, but when I do the 301 direct on the /forum.php it doesn't work,
then again I'm confused, should i be doing the 301 on my domain host provider? my server provider? or via Vbseo on Vbulletin
any more answers would be much appreciated guys
Cheers Luke

I understand your confusion. Here's how I would look at it. It seems clear you want your main authority home page to be : http://www.talknightlife.co.uk
Make your canonical on all pages in question point to that URL: http://www.talknightlife.co.uk
Then, 301 redirect http://www.talknightlife.co.uk/forum.php to http://www.talknightlife.co.uk
I'm not a technical SEO guru so I am interested to know if anyone else has different advice. But this seem to make common sense to me.

Big drop in organic traffic after moving the website-should we still do 301 redirects?
Hi,
Reporting & Analytics | | martin1970
We have a website that got redesigned with new urls in Jan 31, 2018. Since then our SEO traffic has gone down big time and to never recover. We did not do any 301 redirects back then (very stupid I know but I was not in charge then). So my question is would it be beneficial to 301 redirect old urls that were once ranked but now have all 404 errors or is it too late to do these 301 to gain any benefits? If a page that was once ranked and then have a 404 error, how long does google keep that 404 page in their database? I have heard information saying that although the page is a 404 it may still be indexed in their backend for some time and then it completely drops off all together. If so do you know how long time they would keep those 404 in their database? The old urls may have had good backlinks pointed to them because the organic traffic was good back then. So I wonder if doing 301 right now would help send some link juice over to the new urls? Or would this be a complete waste of time? Cheers Martin1 -

Ok. I'm just going to cut loose with my stupid question. What is internal link equity? What distinguishes an internal link with equity from one without equity?
What distinguishes an internal link with equity from one without equity? Is there a limit to how many of these I want? What's the rule-of-thumb? Cheers, Wes

Will 301 redirects (Same Domain) show as referral traffic in Analytics?
For an eCommerce site we have 301'd legacy product pages to new product pages. Is all that traffic going to show up as referral traffic from our own domain in Google Analytics? If so, is there any way to preserve original source/medium info or will all the source/medium info be our own domain since there is a 301 redirect?

Using Filters On Google Analytics
Hi Guys, I am In need of some technical help with regards to Google analytics. One of my clients has a site providing HR Software on SaaS basis. The users login via the site for the various HR Tools. Obviously this is skewing the analytics data and showing 10,000+ extra visitors that actually don't exist. Now I understand i can add filters and exclude certain pages for instance the login page, however, some users will visit the home page then click login. How can I exclude them just to show new visitors to the site rather than users that are just trying to login. Hope this makes sense Neil

301 Redirect 'https'? First post - Newbie.
Good afternoon, Thank you in advance for your help - this is my first post and I am new to all of this. Situation: I've setup 301 redirects for www.thechiplab.com to my new site www.chiplab.com (recently launched e-commerce site on Magento) through cPanel. Problem: Some of my best links are to my old ''https:" www.thechiplab.com secure domain (ex. http://techcrunch.com/2006/12/22/why-doesnt-cafepress-use-flash/) and are not being "passed" on to the new domain. (Open Site Explorer) Is it possible to recover any of the PR from the old secure site? Thanks again, Chase

How to set up a 301 redirect
I have just started using SEOmoz and found that we have both a www.adagiowaterfeatures.com site and a adagiowaterfeatures.com site. I have not been able to figure out how to set up the 301 redirect so the non-www site automatically goes to the www site. If anyone can tell me how the non-www site was set up to begin with I'd be interested. We only set up one site. Thanks!
