Calculating page visit duration for bounced visits?
-
IS there any way on Google Analytics to calculate page visit duration for bounced visits? if so, what would need to be done?
-
The definition of a bounce does not change. Any user that enters your site and leaves without interacting with the site again is a bounce.
The key phrase there is "interacting with the site". An interaction might be another pageview or an event.
The code listed above fires an event after 3 minutes, so those users are no longer classified as bouncers. They interacted again.

thanks. does adding the timeout method change the definition of a bounce on GA?
meaning, if someone bounces, i still want it to show as a bounce - but I also want to see the time they were on the page.
-
Completely inaccurate.
The Google search ranking algorithm is completely separate from that of Google Analytics. The search algorithm's definition of a bounce is based on when a user comes back to the SERPs after visiting your page. That metric wouldn't change no matter what you do to your Google Analytics (unless you somehow muck up the GA snippet so much that it causes page load delays and actually affects user behavior).

thanks, I was reading somewhere that it affects the actual bounce rate, making it lower than it is and at some point google would take notice and lower rank.
how accurate is that?

You need to add setTimeout() method in your Google Analytics Tracking code something like this:
_setTimeout(“_gaq.push(['trackEvent','Profitable Engagement','time on page more than 3 minutes'])”,180000);

Solved How to solve orphan pages on a job board
Working on a website that has a job board, and over 4000 active job ads. All of these ads are listed on a single "job board" page, and don’t obviously all load at the same time. They are not linked to from anywhere else, so all tools are listing all of these job ad pages as orphans. How much of a red flag are these orphan pages? Do sites like Indeed have this same issue? Their job ads are completely dynamic, how are these pages then indexed? We use Google’s Search API to handle any expired jobs, so they are not the issue. It’s the active, but orphaned pages we are looking to solve. The site is hosted on WordPress. What is the best way to solve this issue? Just create a job category page and link to each individual job ad from there? Any simpler and perhaps more obvious solutions? What does the website structure need to be like for the problem to be solved? Would appreciate any advice you can share!

How do I create a segment that shows me all pages using a certain keyword? But nothing that doesn't have that keyword?
There must be an easy answer to this, but I can't seem to find it. All I want to do is create a segment in Google Analytics that shows all pages and search strings with "orthopaedics" in the title, with pageviews, uniques etc. If I simply navigate to "All Pages" in Google Analytics and then click Advanced Filters and do an Include Page Contains "orthopaedics" it works just fine. (See attached Screen Shot) But when I try to recreate this as a segment, it pulls in all other pages the users visited before arriving on the orthopaedics page I want to include, which I don't want. I can manually exclude each URL I don't want, but this is tedious and I feel there must be a simpler method I'm just missing. At the end of the day, I'm trying to create a list of every page and dynamically created query string that includes the word "orthopaedics" to say doctor X, your orthopaedics section generated X views, and here's a list of the pages. Google analytics suddenly stopped tracking all my landing pages
Hey guys. I love the new update of GA. Looks so clean. So, of course, I was excited to see how my landing pages were doing. I went to behavior, all content, all pages. And I noticed it's only showing me 19 pages out of the 93 I have indexed. And none of the top ones at all! Can't find them anywhere in GA! Anyone seen this before? Thank you so much

Complete loss of Organic visits within Google Analytics??
Hey guys, I have a pressing query that's really puzzled me! I've just been going through Google Analytics and noticed that there has been a complete drop off of all my organic visitors from May 7. All other traffic mediums are unaffected so there is no issue with the Analytics code recording visits. I haven't received any penalty and my rankings have actually improved in the last month. This is proper bizarre. Any ideas? MjLmL70.png

Time on page: What happens when I open many tabs?
Hello everyone, I was studying Analytics, and checked that the time on page is calculated by the diference of the time you entered the page and when you click to go to another one. But how the time is calculated when I open several links using new tabs in different moments? Does Google counts the last tab? Just a guess... Thanks!
