Improvement suggestions - Wanted!
-
Hi Mozzers,
I'm looking for any suggestions on how to improve my on page SEO for www.data-contracts.co.uk
Main keyword is 'Concrete repair' which is sitting at around about 20/21 in the SERP's
Looking for blatantly obvious ideas that I've missed too
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for you replies! The UX/UI definitely needs improving and is something on the list. I will take all of your other ideas into account and try to apply them as best I can.
It's strange to see how much I already know but how much easier it is when it's spelled out to you haha.
My keywords are empty for a reason Gerd but thanks for your reply, I shall get to optimising my images as the graph clearly shows up to 3 seconds for one of them to load!! I'll also look to adding tags where appropriate.
Cheers!

Gerd,
In terms of listing the meta keywords, you do not want to do this. It is not necessary and engines dont use them.Good catch on the images.
Best,
-
Only things I would improve on are:
- Your meta-keywords are empty
- Your meta-descriptions are empty on most pages
- You have many opportunities to add a "title"-tag to your HREFs (and alt-tags to the few images you might have overlooked)
- I would have a robots.txt to submit a sitemap
- Optimise those images - they are big: http://www.data-contracts.co.uk/images/flash_dummy_bg.png, http://www.data-contracts.co.uk/flash/images/slide1.jpg
Have a look at this http://www.webpagetest.org/result/121010_PS_F28/ you could squeeze a bit more performance out (HTTP-expires on some content)

Shaun,
I hope that I can provide a bit of insight for you. Remember, I am in the US with a US IP address and view things from a US point of view in terms of marketing. For SEO, overall, not bad. Need canonicals now or near term but do not believe that is affecting your ranking per se. Your page that ranks for concrete repair and concrete repairs is your concrete repair page and not your home page. From here searching Google.co.uk you rank 18th for repair and 15th for repairs. Remember, if your local is strong there that could improve.
The first change I would make would be to the meta description (not an algo factor, but a CTR factor). This is your sales pitch and only opportunity to get them to your site. I would lose the We are a , etc.
Mine would be like this: Complex and simple concrete repair including lower cost high structure repairs and emergency repairs. Services throughout UK. Free quotes rendered quickly. (No, I did not count the characters but this would be close). Use your words, but get the message out quickly. Make them click on you.
In order to rank this page higher based on your competition you need QUALITY links to this page. Yahoo Directory and Best of the web might be a place to start. Have an editor submit you to DMOZ. (these are low hanging fruit).
I would have a blog that gave a long snippet on this page and they could click on to read the rest and I would put new content on it twice monthly. I would add a FaceBook Like and Share (saw the button that takes me off site - hate it), I would add Google +, I would add LinkedIn, and Twitter. This will get you some additional trust.
If you look at who is first, they mainly have 20 times as many linking root domains as you and an EMD.
The only thing I would add is that if you had someone look at the site from a UI/UX perspective (how a user uses it) you might glean an insight or two.
Hope it helps,

My homepage doesn't seem to be indexed. Any suggestions?
As the title said, I don't think my homepage is being indexed. When I use "site:" search operator it's not there, but it's still ranking for other various keywords. Also the pages of my site I would expect to see with the "site:" search operator aren't there either. Site for reference: three29.com Any ideas what could be causing this? I don't have any errors or penalties in Search Console. Thanks.

Crawl Depth improvements
Hi I'm checking the crawl depth report in SEM rush, and looking at pages which are 4+ clicks away. I have a lot of product pages which fall into this category. Does anyone know the impact of this? Will they never be found by Google? If there is anything in there I want to rank, I'm guessing the course of action is to move the page so it takes less clicks to get there? How important is the crawl budget and depth for SEO? I'm just starting to look into this subject Thank you

Worth Improving HTML Sort Order?
Our developer has suggested that we alter our HTML so the important content appears at the very top of the source code and Google can index our pages more efficiently. Is this a worthwhile improvement in terms of improving ranking? Our developer describes the improvement in this manner: sort-order of the important content inside the code, so we may have similar text code ratio at the end but the important code we need Google to index will be at the very top in the source code, in terms of a very technical approach Google will find the key content faster and that should help to improve the crawling process as search engines read HTML code linearly. This change do not necessarily will affect the HTML, we can achieve it by using style sheet (CSS code) instead, reducing the chance of major BUGs. Thanks, Alan

301 redirects in Wordpress vs. making old posts that you no longer want your audience to see private.
I'm working on Wordpress at the moment changing the content of a page on my website. The page has a lot of educational information and each section is unique. I had to go through and edit each section on google documents and now I'm posting all the new pages and making the old pages private on wordpress. Is this a good idea? I'm worried google will still crawl my private education pages and think these are duplicates since the new pages somewhat resemble the old. Also, should I be 301 redirecting all the old education pages to the corresponding new ones even if they are private on wordpress? I understand that the 301 redirect should only be used if you want the old page to go to a new one. What i don't understand id weather this will still be relevant or work if I've already made the old page private on wordpress. Thank You!

404 Pages. Can I change it to do this without getting penalized ? I want to lower our bounce rate from these pages to encourage the user to continue on the site
Hi All, We have been streaming our site and got rid of thousands of pages for redundant locations (Basically these used to be virtual locations where we didn't have a depot although we did deliver there and most of them was duplicate/thin content etc ). Most of them have little if any link value and I didn't want to 301 all of them as we already have quite a few 301's already We currently display a 404 page but I want to improve on this. Current 404 page is - http://goo.gl/rFRNMt I can get my developer to change it, so it will still be a 404 page but the user will see the relevant category page instead ? So it will look like this - http://goo.gl/Rc8YP8 . We could also use Java script to show the location name etc... Would be be okay ? or would google see this as cheating. basically I want to lower our bounce rates from these pages but still be attractive enough for the user to continue in the site and not go away. If this is not a good idea, then any recommendations on improving our current 404 would be greatly appreciated. thanks Pete
