Is big Penguin update on its way
-
Just wondering, whether these updates have got anything to do with the next and the biggest Penguin update -
Penguin refreshes and the launch of Disavow Option seems to be a bit correlated. It appears that Google might be testing its algo and the Disavow Link is launched so that website owners who might feel frustrated that their websites are wrongly affected can use this tool to exonerate from the penalty.
Any thought?

Hey, it's an interesting theory. They are certainly taking their time rolling out the new 'jolting and jarring' Penguin update so I guess we will have to just sit tight and wait and see (as ever).
My take on the Disavow links tool was more that it was for those people with a manual penalty but if they are planning on really shaking things up then I guess it gives them some wiggle room if lots of people are negatively affected by the next update.
I do know that link spam seems as bad as ever in some niches I monitor. Sure, they have taken some of the really aggressive anchor text abuse down, but for every site removed, a new manipulative site has appeared with a slightly different anchor text signature so this push towards relevance and quality could not be more important or timely.

I was thinking the same thing. I in fact are one of those webmasters.

Duplicate content - big brand players
Hi I understand the concept of duplicate content and its impact, however I do have a couple of doubts that I would like to hear expert comments. Product description/content listed in Amazon.com (for instance Canon EOS 600) same content/description can be seen in Amazon.co.uk - how does google see this ? same product listed in amazon is found it target , walmart , Bestbuy and other big player with same description - Who gets the penalty ? Ipad Air launched yesterday, a detailed description can be found on apple site, and the same description / features / word by word will be found in all legit major online sites - How does google see this ? My Business example. Let say I own Samsung camera / other Samsung products. Obviously I do not sell them on my brand site and provide only information on Samsung.com. Products are sold all over the world on retailer websites like bestbuy, target, walmart, amazon.com, amazon.co.uk etc etc. I only have 1 detailed description per product to provide to all these retailers which they use the same information on their website.(I dont mind them doing so, however is this duplicate content ? ) If the answer is all retailers have to alter my original description, this may not be feasible, coz I have 1000+ products and 100+ retails. Remember I am Samsung. How does google see this, What is my Online strategy, Appreciate your comments.

Is paper.li a Penguin no-no?
One of our blog posts was just linked to from a paper.li site; the post on the site was then tweeted by the site's owner. From what I was able to determine, paper.li is little more than an aggregator, and the tweet was most likely automated. So, this is my two-part question: 1) Is the paper.li platform one that Penguin disapproves of, and 2) if so, should I prepare to disavow?

Any Information on Panda Update #21?
A site we've been working on and doing well with (relatively new) got hit pretty hard on November 4th and 5th. Since then, traffic is down considerably and we're trying to diagnose what specific triggers may have caused such a change.

How to report rankings after the Google Venice update?
As a profesional agency we focus on traffic and conversions, but rankings are still a good KPI to please customers. Unfortunately rankings are not reliable anymore sinds the Google Venice update. My question is; "How can you still report about rankings, but without the risk that your customer sees total different results?" Software we use At the moment we use Rank Tracker from Link Assistant.

Anyone drawn a Google Penguin?
Just a bit of light relief in the world of SEO. Hey SEO people are funny and can laugh as well 🙂 Our SEO team has had a go at drawing some penguins and the results are funny to us as they are so childlike. Anyone else fancy adding their drawing to the flicker group. This is just a bit of fun for us all! http://www.flickr.com/groups/googlepenguincartoons/

Chrome blocked sites used by Googles Panda update
Google's Panda update said it used Chrome users blocked sites lists as a benchmark for what they now term poor quality content. They said the Panda update effectively took about 85% of them out of the search results. This got me thinking, it would be very nice to discover what are the exact sites they don't like. Does anyone know if there is an archive of what these sites might be? Or if none exists, maybe if people could share their Chrome blocked sites on here we might get an idea?

Schedule for Panda / Farmer Update rollout for non English sites?
Hey Mozzers, I just read about the global rollout of googles Panda/Farmer Update for English queries, e.g. at searchengineland. Has anyone read something about when google is planning to roll out the update for non-English speaking countries, i.e. queries in other languages? I googled a bit but couldn't find anything, not even speculations. Cheers, Frank
