Legitimate Social Exchange groups or sites?
-
I know, I know, why am I even asking, but I have to it's just in my nature. Are there any legitimate Social Exchange groups or sites where we can exchanges shares, +1's & retweets, ect.
-
Yeah, I'm not really interested in buying "likes", I am looking for other people that are interested in Social Networking. A network the size of this forum can provide enough real social profiles to create a powerful group.

I'd be careful here Technically you can go to ebay and buy x,000 likes for almost nothing, but they are useless in my opinion and may get you banned from social sites. Exchanging shares is probably not much good e.g. in Twitter your follower ratio is important for ranking. If you have as many followers as you follow, it doesn't necessarily say much good. Also if you drop followers too fast, you can get a closed account from twitter. I wouldn't play around with G+ either. They can log IP addresses and probably tie these in to their search results - they'll know if someone opens 100 G+ accounts from the same/ similar IP in a second, and you don't know whether the people you share with are smart enough to fake IP's etc. I'd really recommend going for genuine followers and participating actively in forums related to whichever industry you're trying to target. Also having 10,000 Likes is a start, but what if nobody ever posts on your page? Spiders like fresh content so again I'd go for an honest approach, as you'll have people engaged with your website better.

Why not try Fiverr?
For $5 you can buy +1s, shares, retweets, etc.... Just beware, as you probably know from the intro of your questions - these are likely to look good in terms of numbers (so potentially helpful for your branding) but are pretty worthless for anything else.

Social Media Causing Duplicate Content
Recently, I spent some time in the SEO MOZ Crawl Diagnostics, and found that I have 40 pages that are being listed as “duplicate content.” These are original blog posts, but I made the mistake of sharing on social media immediately after publishing each post. I recently found out that if you post on a blog and on social on the same day, Google indexes the social first, and then up to 2 weeks later indexes the actual blog post. When it does, it stamps the blog post as duplicate and the social media posting as the original. Any ideas on how I can rectify this? Any code I can put in each blog post to let Google know they’re the original? I’ve begun publicizing my blogs on social 14 days after I actually publish them to alleviate the issue going forward, but I’d like my 40 other blog posts to get the authority they deserve.

Social Signals, do they help? Looking for a solid Yes or No.
Hi, I've read so much lately about social signals and got basically 3 completely different responses. 1. Yes they are going to over take normal link building in 2013 so get on it. 2. Yeah they do help with rankings but not massively, don't focus to much on it. 3. Na they don't help, you need to gain 1000's of signals and even then it will be a short SERP increase and then back down you go. So... What im looking for now is a straight up Yes or No, should you be on social signals now? Should time spent on gaining social signals be increased? If your doing 10% of your time on social should this percent now shift to a larger percentage? Cheers

Social Media Approaches for a Pest Control Company
Hi Everyone, I am working with a pest control company that is looking to branch out into social media. Their primary goal is to connect with their existing customers to improve retention. The secondary goal is to potentially pick up new clients. With that said, I wanted to see if you all had some ideas on things that they could tweet/facebook about on a regular basis? Posting about bugs on a daily basis gets pretty boring. I know Rand has been talking a lot lately about not being so narrow, so maybe we should talk more about general home improvement? Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks! EDIT: I should clarify that this is a company that has maintenance plans. You don't call them only when you have a problem. You sign up with them, and they treat your property every 3 months, or whenever you call. Only about 2% of their customer base is one-off phone calls to fix 1 problem and never come back again. I don't think their existing customer base will have any issues with Liking them on Facebook or following them on Twitter. The initial plan is to incentivize them to do so, but once we get the like/follow, we want to continually be in front of them with interesting content, contests as Jay suggested, etc.

Is it ok to have 'Authors' that write content for multiple sites even if in the same industry?
Hi all, I have a client that has 2 websites (different brands) in the same industry. I have encouraged them to become authors when writing content for each respective website and hook up their Google+ profile to the posts. Is this detrimental for SEO if they are writing for both sites? Or is it in fact a positive thing? Looking forward to your thoughts on this!! Thanks, Elias

Linkbuilding vs. Social -- Allocating scarce resources.
I just watched Rand's latest webinar on the end of search without social. It was very timely for me because I've been putting a lot of thought into how allocate my available person-hours. It is clear that SEO these days necessitates both linkbuilding and social. But how much of each? (50%/50%?, 80%/20%?, etc.) -For the DIY small business owner (<10 hours per week available for SEO) -For SEO savvy web business (~20 hours per week available of SEO) -For in-house or other full time SEO's (30+ hours available) Clearly it depends on a lot of other factors, I'm just looking for a good rule of thumb that can be adjusted according to the business.

Can you recommend a social media guide?
We have a summer intern we need to give a handbook/guide on social media strategies, best practices, etc. Any recommendations? It can be free or paid, as long as it is accurate and up-to-date!
