Open Site Explorer, Which is the right link number?
-
Hi SEOMozers,
I am trying to check a record of links to one of the websites I help look after. One problem with the site is the home page automatically redirects to /home which seems to make OSE give some weird results.
I can give out the domain if need be but I would rather not if I can help it
To sum up what's happening when you put the domain into OSE with the /home then I get the social figures but the link number is right out saying the site has 200 links.
Typing in the domain without the /home brings up no social figures and 15k links which looks more correct. Also OSE has the notification about the redirect and if I'd like to go to the /home version.
The weird thing is however is if I change the filter to 'Pages on this root domain' which should show all links pointing to the website, the figures don't change...?
Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions? Or is it a known bug?
Cheers for any help in advance!

Wait a tick, solved it now. I'm sure the stats at the top used to display the settings you've specified. Appears it onyl display that exact page now!
The metrics I was after now display directly under the filter options... Massive D'oh moment by myself...

I know that, it's something in the pipeline but it's not what I was asking. Cheers anyway though

You can 301 redirect /home to the original page or you can use a canonical tag. You may still see the error after that in SEOmoz however this should solve the error.

Moz can't see my link from an external site
Hi, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. I've had a followed link created from http://www.dubaisharks.com/ pointing to my website - http://www.yallarugby.com but in the reports it doesn't show that there is a link coming fro this website. The link has been active for a few months now, but still no record of it. Any ideas?

Fresh Web Explorer: Will frequent posting of relevant links to own content in comments of blogs and articles hurt rankings?
Fresh Web Explorer finds daily about 10 articles/blog posts where I could post in comment section a relevant link to content on my own website, which I really belief may be of interest to many readers of the articles. I would like to do this for the traffic that these links are generating to my site (intention is not ranking improvement).

Would I need to be concerned that it could affect negatively my ranking if I post so many times links to my own site in the comment sections and also considering that I would always link to the same about 5 landing pages on my site? To give some context. The site for wich I want to build links for is long established PageRank 6 site with legit links from about 1000 different root domains. I would only post to articles published within last 48h. Would I need to be concerned about the frequency of the posting and if so, any ideas what may be a reasonable frequency to post my links?0 -
Why is my internal followed links is 0?
My internal followed links is 0. Also for top pages the report say "block by robots.txt" but the Moz bot is able to crawl my site and generate report for 10K pages. Please help me understand why. http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/comparisons?site=www.findyogi.com

Open Site Explorer and Escaped Fragments
Does OSE have the ability to crawl AJAX pages utilizing Google's escaped fragment directive? I ask because I'm seeing all our AJAX built pages returning HTTP status codes of 404 when I run OSE reports. See for yourself

What did I do wrong? What did they do right?
I have only been here a little over a week so bare with me if I am out of protocol by asking this here if there is a more appropriate place for me to have done so. Anyhow, i own the domain www.lowloans.com and just a few months ago, this domain was ranked 1 on Google for the search term "low loans" and "lowloans" Now, that domain is nowhere to be found. I don't even know where to go to begin to work on this. With respect to the search lowloans, the sites that get top spot don't have a lot of info that I have been able to find that would help me better my position. I must be doing something wrong in my campaign as all of top 3 sites on google, don't rank within my campaign "rankings" report. Ugh. Where to start? Is there some section within SEOmoz that would give me the info I need to reclaim the top spot for my desired search terms? I am still making my way through this site so if I am asking something obvious to you vets, please be patient with me.

How reliable are the external link metrics found in the Open Site Explorer research tool?
I have noticed huge discrepancies with the external link metrics of one of the websites that I have been tracking since the launch of the website. Shortly after launch I captured a screenshot of the external link metrics to the website to track the progress. As I look at the same Open Site Explorer metrics now (2 months later) it has increased by 900% which is very inconsistent with the amount of link building done for the client. Thanks!

In open site explorer, why are subdomain stats different to domain stats?
Hello there I have just compared some sites in Open Site Explorer. The page domain, subdomain and domain stats are all different. I get the difference between page and domain stats. But why are the subdomain stats different? There are no subdomains on the site so I expected them to be the same. What is my confused brain missing??? Many thanks Wendy

OPen Site Explorer listing criteria?
Checking link data for a potential client who has given me access to their websmaster tools account, I've noticed that Google list over 150,000 "Links to Your Site" but yet OSE only reports a tiny fraction of this number.

I have manually verified that there are in fact direct links from the sites that are listed in Webmaster Tools but not in OSE. Does OSE discard some links? Is there a reporting lag? Does anyone know why there would be such a large discrepancy?0
