Update content
-
y'all,
what is the recommended amount of time in which content on a website should be refreshed?
TY
-
When you have something of value to say. If you are not that creative, as I am not, then have guest bloggers add valued content. I think what is more important than frequency is quality. This also depends on expectations from visitors, which depends on what type of site you are running.
Having too many may be too much for visitors to feel as though they are keeping up with the site.
Small sites 2-3 per month
Large sites (non news) 2-3 per day. (unless your site is broken into categories, then 1-2 per day per category)

I believe that having something new on the homepage when returning visitors arrive will make them come back more often.
To accomplish that we have a script that rotates content through a few of the blocks on our homepage. The script runs every hour so if a person returns later in the day they will see different items. We have enough content in this rotation that the typical visitor could make many visits before seeing the same item a second time.
Also, on most pages of our site we have links to our ten most recent blog posts that match the category of the page. These update every hour as we make up to ten blog posts per day. We also have lists of "related articles" that rotate hourly.
All of this keeps almost every page of our site constantly changing. I don't know what google thinks of it but adding these rotating content features has increased the visitor engagement level of our site.

great suggestion, thank you!

I don't think there is any black and white answer here. The correct answer is : You should refresh content as often as you can while still maintaining a high level of quality. You shouldn't be updating content for the sake of updating content.
If you are in a specific niche you might not be able to produce content as frequently as you like without some creative thinking. You should strive to produce and update content as often as possible while maintaining a high level of quality. On my main blog, I try to get something new up once every other day, and I update the most popular articles with relevant information as it becomes prudent to do so, for example I update our "Top 10 Workplace Accidents" article once every 30 days because that is when OSHA releases new statistics.

Post-August Google Updates High volume keyphrases rankings mess
Howdy, fellow mozzers, Couple of our clients keep losing rankings, slowly but surely, which seem to correlate to August Google updates. No major changes to the websites have been done - neither code, backlink profile nor content. It seem to affect higher search volume keyphrases, while other longer tail keyphrases are climbing up. The screenshots of the visibility rankings are attached below. Any ideas/news/thought about the Google update itself or what might be happening? I know that the Medic update was overall quality, yet it seems to be that these websites in particular are going down after Birthday update, not Medic itself. Google and da mighty Internets being quite.. Help! Links to screenshots (includes higher volume keyphrases only): https://dmitrii-regexseo.tinytake.com/sf/MzAyNjg0MV85MDczNDkz https://dmitrii-regexseo.tinytake.com/sf/MzAyNjgzN185MDczNDY1

Unnamed Update — February 4, 2015
Does anyone have any more information about this shift in the search rankings. For us it seemed to affect few SERPs but those it did impact were highly competitive. I have heard speculation that it had to to with whether your site was mobile friendly or not. I don't believe this to be the case however since it impacted us nagatively and we have been mobile friendly (per google's test) since a year before this update. https://moz.com/google-algorithm-change Our website has clean backlinks and all original content.

Republish An Updated Blog or not?
We need to update one of our older posts (a new federal ruling came down that now applies) but do I just update it or should I republish it? I know that just republishing something that hasn't been changed, can get you flagged, but if it's an update, I would think that would be appropriate to republish. I'd just like some guidance before I proceed. Thanks and Happy Friday! Ruben

How to retain those rankings gained from fresh content...
Something tells me I know the answer to this question already but I'd always appreciate the advice of fellow professionals. So.....fresh content is big now in Google, and i've seen some great examples of this. When launching a new product or unleashing (yes unleashing) a new blog post I see our content launches itself into the rankings for some fairly competitive terms. However after 1-2 weeks these newly claimed rankings begin to fade from the lime light. So the question is, what do I need to do to retain these rankings? We're active on social media tweeting, liking, sharing and +1ing our content as well as working to create exciting and relevant content via external sources. So far all this seems to have do is slow the fall from grace. Perhaps this is natural. But i'd love to hear your thoughts, even if it is just keep up the hard work.

Javascript hidden divs, links to anchor content
Hello, I am working on a web project that breaks up its sections by utilizing hidden divs shown via javascript activated through anchor links. http://www.janandtom.com/ First question: Is this SEO suicide? I have confirmed that the content is being indexed by searching for specific text but have been led to believe that hidden div content will be afforded a lower 'importance'. One suggestion has having the text as display:block and then hiding it on page load. Will this make a difference? Second: Is there any way to have Google index the anchored content by the specific anchor text? An example for the second question: If you search google right now for: buyers like to look at floorplans Tom & Jan You will get a link to: http://www.janandtom.com but I would rather it be: [http://www.janandtom.com/#Interactive Floorplans](http://www.janandtom.com/#Interactive Floorplans) Sorry if this is redundant or addressed before. I tried searching the questions but wasn't getting and definitive direction to go and this project is a little unique for me. Also, I'm just getting my feet we into this 'high-end' seo (new member of SEOMoz) so please bear with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
