Specific Keyword Ranking Advice
-
Hi Folks,
We're trying to optimize the page (http://alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/) for the keyword "goat milk soap". Our page used to rank #1 before Panda (actually our home page did, not the page I'm trying to optimize on now). Now we're around rank 25. I've followed all the guidelines for on-page optimization I know, and I've done everything I can think of. We're currently executing a link building campaign but that obviously takes time. Does anyone have any advice? Is there anything else I can do to improve our ranking?
Thanks,
Hal

Thanks for the help folks. I have the WWW issue fixed. However the pagination is a little more complicated. The shopping cart I use (big commerce) implements pagination canonicalization improperly and I have no control over that. How big of a deal is that?
Thanks,
Hal

Big problem but small solution. This page has 48 [I am discounting the www and non www think] variations. Here are few of them -
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=featured&page=2
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=featured&page=3
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=featured&page=1
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=newest
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=alphaasc
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=pricedesc
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=pricedesc&page=2
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=priceasc&page=5
All you got to do is not showing the body content in any of the pagination series – [can be achieved programmatically]
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=priceasc&page=5
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=priceasc&page=6
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=bestselling&page=2
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=newest&page=3_And for these types of pages – you need to set the following URL as canonical - http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=newest&page=1
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=featured&page=1
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=bestselling&page=1
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=alphaasc&page=1
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=alphadesc&page=1
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=avgcustomerreview&page=1
http://www.alabu.com/goat-milk-soap/?sort=priceasc&page=1_and please fix that www issue

Hi Hal,
Try reducing the keyword density of this keyword on your page. You are also using the keyword in your internal links with that keyword as the anchor text. Your site could have suffered from Google's over optimization penalty. Also check your links and report any bad links using the disavow tool.

I have few suggestions for your website.
- Website gets open with both www & without www url. Both will consider as a different page with the same content. So please make 301 redirect.
- You already setup the Webmaster so i suggest you to please set the "Target Country" in Geographic Location.
- The canonical setting which are already on your website seems wrong please check this reference link : http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/02/specify-your-canonical.html
- Please check your canonical settings. Here is the best solution for your case http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/09/pagination-with-relnext-and-relprev.html.
Hope it will helps you.

Coworker and I see totally different keyword volumes on same paid keyword planner account
My coworker and I are both connected to the same company's paid keyword planner account but are using our own individual google accounts to log in. When I look up the keyword "joint bank account" I get a search volume of 9,900, while she gets a search volume of 2,900. Does anyone know why this might be? Do we know which might be more accurate? This doesn't seem to be connected to Google lumping semantic variations together. I've seen it happen way before that update. It's hindering our headline pitching since the volume she sees does not meet our minimum search threshold. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Laira

Keyword with or without stress?
hi to everyone, I'm new here I'm doing some research for keywords related to sofa in brazil. Portuguese use lot of stress in writing words. there are many important keywords that should be written with the stress. For example: sofás but I'm measuring many more researches for the same word without stress (see attachment). This is the same for many other key phrases with 2 or 3 words. in 90% of the case, key phrases without stress has many more researches Now I have 3 questions: results are very similar for these two keys. are really two different keys or are they the same for google? what number to keep for total search? the higher? the sum between the two? what keywords I have to use in the pages? "sofás" is the correct one, but "sofas" has many more research? U1sYe.png

Question about keyword analysis
I am working on a keyword analysis for a range of keywords. I want to target these keywords in the Denver market. I know if you search google for something like "IT Support" and you are located in Denver it knows where you are and caters the results to be more Denver IT Support oriented. I did notice that those results are different than if you search for "Denver IT Support" My pages are optimized for the Denver market and the keyword like "IT Support" but I am a bit confused on how I should be doing my research into keywords. Should I be putting Denver into all my keyword analysis research even though I still want to rank for just the keyword when they are searching from the Denver area. I hope this all makes sense. I guess I just need some guidance on how to deal with the location specifics of my keywords. Thanks in advance for any help.

Worried about keyword cannibalization
I've been reading a lot about keyword cannibalization and I'm worried that some of my sub pages may be pulling rank from my home page. If I'm trying to rank my home page for the keyword phrase "blue widget manufacturing" and I have sub pages with the titles "blue manufacturing services", "blue widget enginnering", "medical widget manufacturing" is it possible that those pages could be causing me to commit keyword cannibalization? I'm looking at a lot of the results for my keyword phrase and they don't seem to have additional pages with similar keyword phrases. Wondering if I should change my titles so they don't look as optimized.

Newbie question about keyword difficulty tool
Hi guys, It's my first day here ate seomoz and I got intrigued about the results from the keyword difficulty tool. Even though I do understand the results, I noticed the ranking analysis table has some highlighted cells and some of them have a dark checkmark sign inside. What exactly do they mean? I couldn't find it anywhere. Cheers from Brazil. i0tzl.png

Should I use Phrase Keywords when doing Keyword Research?
Hi all, I've spent the past couple of days doing some extensive keyword research in Adwords Traffic Estimator, looking for keywords to optimise my pages. I've been searching using EXACT so I get a realistic value but I'm wondering if PHRASE is better suited for research after all its more likely someone will visit my site via a phrase match than exact? What are your thoughts on this?
