Why are my tags causing duplicate error?
-
Hi,
When I run an SEO moz crawl it is picking up duplicate errors from my tags.
Currently I have these set as domain url/tag/name of the tag. Is this incorrect?
Is there anything I can do to stop this being picked up as duplicate pages?
Thanks,
Eliz

Thanks that is really helpful. I have the All in One SEO plugin so I think I can do this.

Hi Eliz,
I had the same problem a while ago and noindexed the tag archives as Wendy and Istvan have suggested; it took care of the problem.
Good luck!

I totally agree with Wendy, the easiest solution would be to noindex the tag-archives.
If you do not want to do that, you could use canonicals, but that is tricky if you don't to it right.

Hi Eliz
You could just noindex the tag archives so in time they would drop out of the index.
The easiest way to do this is if you have an SEO plugin installed like Joast or All in One SEO. Both these plugins give you check boxes to tick saying you want to noindex tag archives (as well as lots of other stuff). You can also noindex categories and Archives which can give the same problem.
If you don't have one installed then I suggest you download Joast's.
Good luck

It is a wordpress site and yes I have used the tag sometimes on more than one post because sometimes the tag such as copywriting or business plan applies to more than one article. All the posts have a canonical tag.
I'm not totally sure what to do here?
Thanks.

It is showing as a duplicate page content error in the diagnostic crawl results.

Hi Eliz,
If you have a Wordpress website, than most probable you have this issue all the time. If you "tag" a post with more than one tag than that specific post will appear as:
n. and so on
In order to fix this issue it would be advised to use a canonical link which will point out which is the "main" version of the article.
Although this will be picked up with the SEOmoz crawl, still Search Engines will see which is the main version that you are targeting.

Duplicate Content
Hello Moz Quick question. Can I copy and paste a paragraph of text (100 words) from my main category page into my products without hurting SEO of the category page? The content on my category page is so good I don't want to take chances as this is what I will be ranking for. Thanks

Is it OK to include name of your town to the title tag or H1 tag on a blog to enhance local search results
I recently attended a webinar by ETNA Interactive on local search SEO. The presenter recommended including the name of your town in the title of the blog to increase local search SEO. Is this OK? Ive always been concerned that it is such an obvious attempt to rank locally that Google would consider it "spammy" ? black hat, "sketchy" or otherwise manipulative. Have the rules changed? Is it OK to do? Brooke

My company's product is referred to by two different names (SVN and Subversion). When cleaning up our Title tags, is it OK to use either name to keep the title tags around 70 characters?
I am cleaning up title tags that are too long or not correct. In our title tag we reference our product (a version of OSS source code). This product is often referred to as both SVN or Subversion. When writing Title tags is it OK to use one or the other depending on the length of the Title Tag? For instance: Contact Us | Free SVN & Git Hosting | Bug & Issue tracking | CloudForge vs **About CloudForge | Free Subversion & Git Hosting | Bug Tracking ** | |

Fewer keywords in title tag?
Hello, I have a title tag that includes three keywords and has a total of 59 characters. The third keyword is not very important. If I eliminated the third keyword, leaving the first two (for a total of 48 characters), would the ranking value of the first two keywords increase? Does including the third keyword dilute the value of the first two? Thank you!

Duplicate Content - Delete it or NoIndex?
Last month I realized that one of my freelancers had been feeding my website with copied / spun content and sadly, there's lots of it. And of course it got my website to be hit hard by the last Panda update. Now that I've identified the content, what the best thing to do? Should I delete it permanently and get 404 errors or should I set the pages' robot meta tag to "nofollow"?

Plagiarism or duplicate checker tool?
Do you know a plagiarism or duplicate checker tool where I can receive an email alert if someone copies my content? I know there's a tool like this (similar to http://www.tynt.com/ though people can still remove the link from the original source) but I forgot the name or site. It's like a source code that you must insert in each of your webpage. Thanks in advanced!

Which Canonical URL Tag tag should we remove?
Hi guys, We are in the process of optimizing the pages of our new site. We have used the 'on page' report card feature in the Seomoz Pro Campaign analyser. On several pages we got the following result No More Than One Canonical URL Tag Number of Canonical tags <dl> <dd>2</dd> <dt>Explanation</dt> <dd>The canonical URL tag is meant to be employed only a single time on an individual URL (much like the title element or meta description). To ensure the search engines properly parse the canonical source, employ only a single version of this tag.</dd> <dt>Recommendation</dt> <dd>Remove all but a single canonical URL tag</dd> </dl> I have looked into the source code of one of the pages http://www.sabaileela.co.uk/acupuncture-london and can see that there are two "canonical" tags. Does anyone have any advise on which one I should ask the developer to remove? I am not sure how to determine the relative importance of either link.
