Will Google handle "this not that" pages differently?

If you create pages about "try keyword1 not keyword2" will there be any barriers to getting the pages ranked for keyword2?
Example:
You have furnished rental units in a small town, and you offer nightly/weekly rentals. You want to rank for "town hotel" since you offer the same service as a hotel. Since you're not really a hotel, you create a page called "Better than a hotel: Town nightly rental units".
Anyone know if Google has an algorithm to detect this (they would have to detect the meaning of the words you were using and know that you were promoting something other than a hotel) and determine you're not really relevant to "town hotel" and not rank you well?
I think they probably do not, as I've seen things like Google Adsense Alternatives articles ranking well for the term Google Adsense, or Boycott Godaddy sites ranking well for the term godaddy. But I would like to hear any evidence or facts others know of.

hotel is a generic term no one owns you can rank for this Google is not that smart. yet lol
godaddy is a branded name so most likely godaddy complains and takes legal action on anyone trying to use their name to create brand confusion. That is against Google's TOS.

You will have to be smart about your approach, but it is possible.

Hello. Currently we have an ecommerce site that sells shoes online in France. The site is in English. Say the keyword is shoes and our page is example.com/shoes it;s perfectly fine to optimize that page for keyword of "shoes". Now, what about french keyword of shoes "chaussures" ? How do you handle different business locations for search?
Would like to get peoples suggestion on how you handle different business locations in different cities. We have tried multiple tactics for different clients. Some have worked better than others. Example: We have a window company that does great in Austin. Now they want to move into Dallas. In the past, we have created "landing pages" optimized for that locality. However, with Googles new updates I dont think this will work anymore. With others, we have added a "tab" and have similar pages of the entire site optimized for that location. This seems to have been working better. What are your suggestion of how you handle different locations from city to city. Any input is appreciated! Thanks! Charles

Should I redirect mobile traffic to a different url? Will it hurt SEO?
I'm working on a site that has lots of great content and ranks well but essentially the money is generated by affiliate links. I don't have a mobile version of the site but the company I'm affiliated with does offer a mobile redirect to their domain. Will redirecting mobile traffic to a different url hurt my SEO? I think the user will get a better experience by landing on a mobile page but I don't know if google will see it like that. Any thoughts?

I've just manually edited all the page titles and meta descriptions on a site, when will this show in Google results?
I've just manually edited all of the page titles, meta descriptions and optimised the copy on a client's site. I submitted this for a new crawl on Google via Webmaster Tools but when I do a Google search the old versions are still showing. Will it still take a few weeks for the new versions to show even though Google has crawled it via Webmaster?

Ranked page is not desired page
I have a question on a problem I am currently faced with. There is a certain keyword that my employer wants to rank for. The good news is that sometimes it does rank in the top 5 pages of Google. (It drops in and out) The bad news is that it is going to a page that we need to keep, but not the ideal place we want people who are looking for that keyword to go to. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this type of situation and what tactic they used to get people to the better page.

Is it impossible to get out of Panda? Matt Cutts says if you fix the problem you "pop back" but if so why are their so few examples?
In this video matt cutts says: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IzUuhTyvJk about 15 "once we re-run our data (every few weeks) if we determine your site is of higher quality you would pop back out of being affected" Panda has effected thousands of sites and a lot of smart people have been working on the problem for about 2 years since the first panda was launched, but I can only find 1 site that has "popped back" to their original rankings. e.g. http://searchengineland.com/google-panda-two-years-later-losers-still-losing-one-real-recovery-149491 Apart from Motortrend.com I can't find any sites (of reasonable size) / case studies of sites that have solved the panda problem, and were definitely hit by panda. Which doesn't feel right, some people have deleted a ton of pages, redesigned their site, improved their content, etc with no success. Therefore is it a pointless exercise? Therefore, is it better to simply give up and start a new site?

Should I consolidate pages to prevent "thin content"
I have a site based on downloadable images which tend to slow a site. In order to increase speed I divided certain pages up so that there will be less images on each page such as here: http://www.kindergartenteacherresources.com/2011/09/23/spongebob-alphabet-worksheets-uppercase-letters-a-h/ http://www.kindergartenteacherresources.com/2011/09/23/spongebob-alphabet-worksheets-uppercase-letters-i-q/ http://www.kindergartenteacherresources.com/2011/09/23/spongebob-alphabet-worksheets-uppercase-letters-r-z/ The problem is that I now have potential duplicate content and thin content. Should I consolidate them and put all of the content from the 3 pages on one page? or maybe keep them as they are but add a rel previous / next tag? or any other suggestion to prevent a duplicate/thin content penalty while not slowing down the site too much?
