Is it worth buying a Dropped domain?
-
I've got a domain which was registered in July 2010 and had a website on it. I believe the domain expired and it was dropped for a couple of months.
I snapped it up after discovering it in November 2012. Subsequently, the whois records show the domain was created in Nov 2012.
What exactly is the "real" age of this domain from Google's perspective? Or at least, as far as SEO is concerned?
Cheers,
SyedP.S - domain age does indeed warrant some merit in ranking factors!
-
if you registered the domain through a regular registrar like DYN.com pairnic.com or enome you most likely paid the exact amount you would normally pay? if so and that domain was created in November according to who.is unfortunately you did not get the older domain however this can be a blessing in disguise sometimes people can buy domains with bad links to them. As always you like the domain keep using it the real age of the domain like when it was ever 1st registered try domaintools.com also http://who.is then look under history. I hope this was of help to you
sincerely,
Thomas
PS if you want to post the domain or private message me it I can tell you without a doubt the exact date it was 1st registered and the exact date it was last registered.

Handling alternate domains
Hi guys, We're noticing a few alternate hostnames for a website rearing their ugly heads in search results and I was wondering how everyone else handles them. For example, we've seen: alt-www.(domain).com test.(domain).com uat.(domain).com We're looking to ensure that these versions all canonical to their live page equivalent and we're adding meta robots noindex nofollow to all pages as an initial measure. Would you recommend a robots.txt crawler exclusion to these too? All feedback welcome! Cheers, Sean

Domain name suffix impact on SEO
Hello there, We are about to launch a new website and were wondering what impact a specific suffix would have from an SEO point of view. We were thinking about going for a domain which ends in .london as oppose to .com We are based in London and sell world wide via our website. We are suggesting www.domain.london as oppose to www.domain.com I would appreciate your views... Thanks

Domain.com/postname vs. Domain.com/blog/postname
I am wondering what is the best practice regarding blogs? I read that it would be best to structure a website like a pyramide instead of a flat panckage But I have seen many blogs where the post shows right after the domain name. Domain.com/postname instead of Domains/blog/postname My point is that if a website has many post then the structure will get very flat and this will maybe make your most optimized and important pages less important to google domain.com/page a) What do you think about this, which one of the two blog solutions do you prefer and why? b) in context to blog If for instance you had a keyword like Copenhagen property would you then consider renaming your blog to realetateagent.com/Copenhagen-property-news/post-name c) Would write a little intro like 200 words for the page 1 of your blog and add in some keywords.

URL rewrite traffic drop
Hello, A while ago (Sep. 19 2013) we had a new url structure upgrade for products pages within our website (with all the needed 301 redirects in place, internal links & sitemaps updates), but our new urls lost the serps of the old ones and with that we experienced a big traffic drop (and since September I can't see any sign of recovery).

Sudden drop in PageRank to Unranked
Howdy, A clients website has just dismorning (8/FEB/13) gone from index page PR:4 to Unranked including all inner pages on the domain. There is no contact on GWT or penalty email from Google. All organic rankings seem to be fine, and i read about the GWT backlink glitch earlier. Should I expect the worst? Thanks.. Mark

Website domain hosting and set-up for foreign domains?
Hi, I am just wondering what the best practice is for marketing a business in two separate countries? I have a new client that wants me to create their website targeted at the UK market which for me is normal but they also want to target Australia (Probably couldn't get any further away) My initial thoughts are that the business would need two separate websites. The first one in the uk and the second website hosted on servers in Australia with different content. Is this correct? or does anyone have any advice which may simplify getting this thing off the ground. Thanks in advance.
