PINTEREST?!!!!!! What is up?! Help, please
-
I've read, over and over that Pinterest creates no follow links and so is good for virality, traffic and social media but does NOT help with SEO. Is this true? I had an "SEO" tell me recently that this does actually create backlinks. I don't believe them...
-
Pinterest links all appear to be marked "no follow", so unless there are followed links buried deeper in the site that I'm missing, the SEO is correct.
As David said, Pinterest isn't a link building tool, it's about traffic and eyeballs - even if they were followed, I'd question the value of it beyond getting one or two links - but, in any case, they're not.
-
Dont use pinterest for link building use it to get traffic and eyeballs like you use facebook or twitter
-
Links from Pinterest are followed, so they may have SEO benefit. However, the fact that they are so easy to create suggests that Google would not want to give them the same credit as an earned link.
I don't think that should influence your decision about whether or not to use Pinterest. It probably depends on your business. I know somebody that sells quirky stationery online and finds that Pinterest generates a lot of sales. My sector is travel and - although travel images are popular on Pinterest - traffic generated tends to be minimal. Give it a whirl and see how it works for you.

Does Traffic help improve my page rank?
I've learned many things to do to improve my page rank over the past several months (thanks, seomoz). Our website, www.farnorthkennel.com, has improved greatly thanks to your help. Here's my question. I have 13000 fans on FB. If they all read a blog post I put up, does this help my page rank? Does new visitors hitting up my website make the Google gods smile upon me?

Does creating a Facebook App help your social SEO factors?
We're looking to build out an event countdown widget for Facebook users to install as an App. Should we just focus on creating a useful app, or should we be trying to also optimise it for Likes, Comments, Shares etc. Having read the Searchmetrics 2012 report we're starting to ramp up our FB efforts...

Dealing with Pinterest Traffic | Best Practices?
I've not been able to determine what a best practice might be in this situation. Maybe you can help. One of my sites (built on Wordpress) had a blog post go viral on Pinterest. We went from about 1-200 visits a day to more than 17,000 visits daily. All the traffic was basically coming through this one blog post. The site was not built to accommodate that much traffic. We quickly received a call from the hosting company that they had to take our site down because of the load that was being placed on the server (shared hosting.) This is a small, niche site. The products & services being advertised are extremely niche. There is no intent to ever have huge amounts of traffic because we know the customer base is so small. In order to keep the site up, and to reduce the amount of traffic coming from Pinterest, the hosting company modified the .htaccess file to block all traffic coming from pinterest.com. We know that 99% of all the traffic coming from Pinterest not only were not potential customers, but are in the wrong demographic. So, there's no worry for us in losing that traffic. I also know we're not the first site this has happened to. So, what's the best practice here?

Does Twitter and Facebook feeds help SEO
For a new site, I want to feed in Twitter updates and Facebook posts onto the page. I regularly update these feeds. I'm using PHP to directly integrate with the two sites API and grab the data. Is this a good idea? Will it help SEO as its fresh content? Is it a good or bad idea to have a social media feed page on the site that grabs content from these sites?

Employing Pinterest for SEO gain.
Hi I wanted to see if the SEO team have had any feedback from members who have started to use Pinterest. I've had it for a month or so now and I've been adding pins every day since - (quite addictive actually). What is interesting is the gender element to the people who are following and repinning my pins and boards i.e. female. It would be interesting to understand why this the case, why is it so popular with female users. Ultimately I'm tyring to guage the benefits of employing Pinterest for SEO purposes and whether its worth keeping it in my arsenal of social tools. Any insights welcome. http://pinterest.com/visualizations Best David

Will a blog at mydomain.com/v/blog help SEO?
Volusion doesn't allow messing with the main directory so I could only put a page at /v/blog. They do allow you to set up a 301 redirect so I had set up a 301 redirect from www.mydomain.com/blog to www.mydomain.com/v/blog. Is it worth starting a blog like this for SEO? Thanks

Facebook Promotion Help
I am considering doing a iPad give away to gain more Facebook page likes. I have several questions running through my brain that I'm hopeful fellow Mozzers can help me with. I was thinking I'll give away an iPad for every 500 FB likes on our page...or $1.00 per like. If I get an abundance of likes will Google smile upon me? How do I track the entries? Are there any tools that can assist in getting the word out on this and or tracking it all? I'm kind of a FB newb!
