Getting site ready for outreach for guest posting
-
Hello,
We've decided to focus on guest posting for my client's site. What do we need to do to my client's website to be ready for guest posting. I assume those providing guest posting opportunities will look at our site and evaluate how good it is and how good our writing is. Here's what we're doing, and I'm wondering what's important
1. We went from a junky design to a pretty good one.
2. The logo is still average - we're thinking of upgrading it
3. all of the buttons for the store are still bad looking - we're going to make them pretty
4. All the category text was keyword stuffed and not good, we're rewriting all category text which is a huge effort
5. There was 20 short OK articles. We're making 5 long good ones to take their places.
What are they going to look at to make their decision?

everything matters - but i nice author page linked to from the email outreach i think helps
-
Thanks David!
Does it matter if our site content - category pages, articles, etc. are well written? i.e. will they just look at the author page?
-
First step is set up a author page on your site with info about the persona you are pitching from showing some reasons why this person is an authority in your field. Then you got to start building relationships use email, twitter etc
Myblogguest is great start to get your feet wet but quality of sites is an issue.

Hi guys,
I guess I presented the information wrong. My client is looking to guest post on other sites.
-
I look at site authority. I look at the number of comments other articles get on the site. I look at distribution of articles (tweets, digg, facebook). But more than anything, "how relative is the site my subject?". A link from a high authority video game site really isn't going to pass much juice to a pest control site.

There's no short supply of webmasters looking to guest post on external sites. What I'd suggest doing if you're looking to accept guest posts is sign-up to Blogger Linkup and MyBlogGuest as you'll be sent out in an e-mail shot and have the ability to "bid" on available guest posts for your website.
When I look for suitable sites to guest post on I tend to look at the design quality of the site, number of outbound links, whether the site is selling links, do they just accept guest posts, the quality of the other guest posts, PR / DA etc.
If you're looking to make it easy for webmasters to submit to your site I'd recommend having a "write for us / contribute" page that details your application process - e.g minimum words, what topics you're looking for, backlink rules.
Site design won't necessarily influence some submitters, but the better the overall site quality, the more likely you are to have higher quality submissions.
Hope that's been helpful!

Paid Manual 10 Guest Post EDU Back-Links - GOOD or BAD idea?
Hello, I know **Fiverr **has been a topic of discussion for a while in regards to cheap and bad SEO work. Most of the threads I found here refer to buying 1000's of EDU backlinks - but what about 10 manually placed that seem legit? The seller states in his GIG "I have guest posting privilege at Different University websites. I will write and publish a post there with a dofollow backlink to your website, using your anchor text. The article will contain one relevant, contextual link to your website, using a suitable anchor text. There would also be a few other links to authority sites (not your competitors’ sites) to make everything look professional and natural." Could anyone give me advice as to something like this is worth it - or did the seller simply reduce the number from 1000's to 10's to avoid suspicion? I mean even if 1 of the links is valid - surely it makes a difference? or am I still high on the fiverr dream? I dont expect an instant PR or SERP increase, Im simply wondering if something like this is harmful or beneficial, and to what extent.

At a Loss With What to do With This Site
Hi people, a friend of mine runs a payday loan site with a very valuable domain name: http://bit.ly/1lyJgME The site was penalised by Google about 18 months ago, up until then it ranked #1 for payday loan and on the 1st page for the plural, payday loans in the UK. Now the website is nowhere in the top 200 results for either of the phrases, but he has not received any notification from Google and if he checks in webmaster tools in the manual actions section there is nothing there. He has gone through all of the links to his site several times and attempted to remove any unnatural links, those that he could not get rid of after emailing twice he disavowed - about 800, a lot were not even built by him. He has sent 2-3 reconsideration requests to Google and every time they said that the site had not been penalised, or something to that affect. The site does have lots of quality organic links from websites like Wired Magazine and the National Geographic, more then enough decent links to rank somewhere on Google for its keywords. I feel that the site may have been held to a higher standard because a lot of people think that payday loan websites are unethical. What do you think he should do? Can you spot anything on site that is wrong? He has definitely tried to remove every single unnatural link and the ones he could not he disavowed.

Document download sites linking to my site. Should I disavow?
I downloaded my links through the Google Webmaster site and I have a number of new links that appear to be coming from document download sites. They have basically taken my PDFs and have them to where they can be downloaded. They are also linking back to my site and creating what I feel are sketchy links. I don't actually want traffic coming to these PDFs. They are basically sample articles for my writing company and it's just a portfolio. Here's one of the links: http://www.give-me-doc.com/Trailer-Brake-Types.pdf So, what or can I do about them? Should I disavow them? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

Some questions about guest posting
After reading this on the SEOMoz blog, I've decided to try some guest posting to gain some backlinks for our real estate site. I have a few questions for those of you who do this regularly: 1. If the site you are posting on allows up to 3 links in the signature box, do you generally use them all? My gut instinct is that one anchor texted link would give me the most bang for my buck. 3. How much attention do you pay to PR or DA? If a site is PR1 but relevant to your niche would you spend the time to write the article? 4. What negatives have you found when writing guest posts? Thanks!

Linking to Adsense heavy sites?
Hi SEOmoz community! Hopefully a pretty straight forward question here... Does anyone know if linking to "Adsense heavy" websites can have a negative impact on your rankings? Or a positive impact even? Thes sites in particular are owned by a business aquintance, so they come from a trusted source even though the sites themselves look quite "spammy". Also they all have pagerank of 1 or 2 and there's about 100 of the sites that we would link to. Does anyone have any thoughts? Regards, Ash 🙂
