Does this make sense to recover from panda?
-
Hello guys, our website was pandalized on 9/27/2012 and we haven't been able to recover since then.
I've fixed as much as possible when it comes to poor content, and we have been getting high quality links consistently for the past 3-4 months.
Our blog had some duplicate content issues due to categories, tags, feeds, etc. I solved those problems before the past 2 refreshes without success.
I'm considering moving the blog to a subdomain, more than PR, I'm interested in recovering from panda, and let the blog grow on its own. What do you think about that?
-
I have in mind doing 301 redirects.
-
Subdomaining will take time.
I subdomained a lot of content, and almost 2 months later, google is still looking for the content on the main domain, still reporting it as missing, still marking site health poorly because of those pages, and still showing them all in both places in the search index.
One possibility after seeing the new pages indexed, is to use the webmaster tools delete URL feature. You only have a few hundred blog pages, so that won't take long.
After two months, I wish I could tell you that it fixed my problem, but it hasn't.
Subdomaining the blog is not likely to hurt you. Remember you will need to set it up so you can have a separate robots file and a separate sitemap.
Also,
1. be sure that you've covered all the bases, that mainsite links that point to the blog now have the fully qualified URL.
2. be sure that any links on the blog that point to the main site are also fully qualified URLs, and not relative, therefore making a broken link.

Thank you for your comment, I'm highly considering this move.
-
Yes, for sure panda, that's what webmaster tools and analytics say. The blog does link to our main site, but only from the /blog home page. I did this on purpose, I didn't want hundreds of internal links with the same anchor text.
I'll have a look at our privacy policy on the blog and might replace it with the one from truste.
Regarding the business resources page, I agree that the content doesn't offer much for Google to see, so I might consider "noindex" for it.
Traffic loss, most of our organic traffic from Google. We are doing well on Yahoo and Bing (improving every week actually).
The poor links you see come from negative SEO done against us in may '12. Thankfully most of those comments are nofollow.
Thank you. Please keep the ideas coming!
-
Dave, are you sure that was panda?
What does your webmaster tools account tell you?
Have you fixed all duplicate titles, descriptions and pages?
What traffic have you lost?
Was it only google or yahoo and bing as well?
Here are some observations:
First, look at your link profile - it doesn't look good to me
I didn't see a link from your blog to your home page
You have no terms of use link on the blog pages
There are 2 privacy policies. One for the blog, and one for the main site, but that policy is on the truste site
The privacy policy on the blog says nothing about cookies, or collected email addresses.
The Business Resources page has no content the search engines can see.
The "Our Programs" menu item does nothing
Some pages don't have much content.
-
I agree with it, I think a fresh new blog with a new subdomain will help fix the issue. Aside from loosing PR on the blog, I don't see any real issues with it. My advice is go for it!
Hope that helps!

How can I make a list of all URLs indexed by Google?
I started working for this eCommerce site 2 months ago, and my SEO site audit revealed a massive spider trap. The site should have been 3500-ish pages, but Google has over 30K pages in its index. I'm trying to find a effective way of making a list of all URLs indexed by Google. Anyone? (I basically want to build a sitemap with all the indexed spider trap URLs, then set up 301 on those, then ping Google with the "defective" sitemap so they can see what the site really looks like and remove those URLs, shrinking the site back to around 3500 pages)

How to make the most of our data, charts and graphs online?
Hi, Our business has an enormous amount of data at our disposal, which we have traditionally only ever printed in our offline publications. I am aware however that much of this information would be of great use to people searching for the topics we cover online, so it strikes me that there must be a way to represent our data, tables and graphs online to maximise the visibility of the information. For example rather than simply including an image of a graph on a web page and editing the alt text to something like "Saudi Arabia economic growth 1995-2016", is there a way to publish this data online that will give search engines and users some good contextual information about what we are trying to show? Would certain rich snippets for example do the trick? Any help or pointers that could be provided would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lou

I have 2 keywords I want to target, should I make one page for both keywords or two separate pages?
My team sells sailboats and pontoon boats all over the country. So while they are both boats, the target market is two different types of people... I want to make a landing page for each state so if someone types in "Pontoon Boats for sale in Michigan" or "Pontoon boats for sale in Tennessee," my website will come up. But I also want to come up if someone is searching for sailboats for sale in Michigan or Tennessee (or any other state for that matter). So my question is, should I make 1 page for each state that targets both pontoon boats and sailboats (total of 50 landing pages), or should I make two pages for each state, one targeting pontoon boats and the other sailboats (total of 100 landing pages). My team has seen success targeting each state individually for a single keyword, but have not had a situation like this come up yet.

How to make Google index your site? (Blocked with robots.txt for a long time)
The problem is the for the long time we had a website m.imones.lt but it was blocked with robots.txt.

But after a long time we want Google to index it. We unblocked it 1 week or 8 days ago. But Google still does not recognize it. I type site:m.imones.lt and it says it is still blocked with robots.txt What should be the process to make Google crawl this mobile version faster? Thanks!0 -
Homepage 302 redirect - Which option makes most sense?
Edit: Here's a simplified version of this issue and how I have fixed it thus far. On AmbitionSnowskates.com, there is a video section. There is no content on this page, it 302 redirects to the newest video. If you access ambitionsnowskates.com/video/, you are redirected to ambitionsnowskates.com/video/safari-time/. The original post (OP) was about a site with recurring events. There is a cycle between to which subpage the homepage should redirect. For this reason, I was wondering if I should redirect mysite.com to mysite.com/active-subpage/ or the other way around (and have the content directly on the homepage). I was also wondering how this will affect the result in SERPs. It turns out Google shows the title and description of the destination page, but shows the URL of the original URL (the homepage). Knowing this, I can tailor my meta descriptions to be about both the company and the current event; a mix of the two means I won't have to switch or duplicate meta descriptions between active events. I do appreciate the real solution though: in my opinion there should be unique content on the homepage with according CTA. I'm trying to push this as the best fix, with redirections being an alternative, but albeit more complex, solution. Again sorry for being so unclear. I wish I had had an example from the beginning. 🙂 I'm leaving this opened in case someone wants to chime in. Ben Hey guys, I need a hand on this one 🙂 We have a website with 3 events and we want the homepage to show the upcoming event. Event 1 is in February Event 2 is in April Event 3 is in June These events are recurrent year after year. Currently the homepage shows the content of event 1 at the root level (site.com/) . The other events have a unique URL (site.com/event-2, site.com/event-3). Later in the year, after event 1 is over, we change the homepage content to event 2 and move event 1 to its own URL. In other words... Current structure Today: Event 1: site.com/ Event 2: site.com/event-2 Event 3: site.com/event-3 In March: Event 1: site.com/event-1 Event 2: site.com/ Event 3: site.com/event-3 And so on. I want to make sure each event has its own URL and is properly indexed. Option A I can redirect the homepage to the right event: site.com -> 302 -> site.com/event-1. If that's the way to go, what will be the SEO impact, i.e. what content will show up in SERPs? The destination page's content/meta description and title? Option B What I could also do is keep the current structure (content moved to the root), but redirect temporarily the event's unique URL to the homepage: Today: Event 1: site.com/ Event 1: site.com/event-1 -> 302 -> site.com/ Event 2: site.com/event-2 Event 3: site.com/event-3 In March: Event 1: site.com/event-1 Event 2: site.com/ Event 2: site.com/event-2 -> 302 -> site.com/ Event 3: site.com/event-3 And so on. Again, if that's the way to go, how will this impact SERPs, which title and description will I see for the homepage and individual events? If you have other options, I'm all ears! Thanks a lot! (I mean it) -Ben

Hot to move 3 websites into 1 SEO wise and recover from penaltys in the process?
I decided to migrate 3 EMDs and all of its content into 1 big new website. 1.) I will manually move each page/post to the new website, on new hosting. 2.) Redirect each old url to new via htaccess (how long do I have to wait before I simply change DNS records on my old domains, and just point it to the new domain - want to drop one hosting plan in the process) 3.) Tell Google via Webmaster tools, that my site has moved to the new domain. Website A suffered from Penguin update, Website B suffered from EMD update and Website C is OK. I removed most of "bad" and "exect anchor text" links from websites. Could I just move the content, change DNS records and tell Google that my website moved. Any thoughts, advices and pointers are appreciated. Tnx Marko Strbac

Is my other domain making me not rank?
Hi there, We have a .co.uk website which was ranking well for a number of highly competitive keywords, however in February 2012 those rankings for those keywords suddenly dropped off Google all together and have never came back. A few possibilties to why this has happened: We launched a .ie website which has exactly the same content, could this be the reason for the drop? I have put in all the necessary steps in making sure Google ranks these geographically correct by using hreflang and making sure everything is setup properly in webmaster tools. Why I think it could be this: If I copy and paste the first few paragraphs of text from the pages in the .co.uk website that were ranked highly in Google.co.uk it's the .ie version that appears not the .co.uk version. Here is the webpages in question: http://www.avogel.co.uk/health/menopause/ http://www.avogel.ie/health/menopause/ Forgot to mention, the reason we have these two websites is due to different currency and legalities. Hope someone can help me out with this.

Has there been a 'Panda' update in the UK?
My site in the UK suddenly dropped from page 1 and out of top 50 for all KWs using 'recliner' or a derivative. We are a recliner manufacturer and have gained rank over 15 years, and of course using all white hat tactics. Did Google make an algo update in the Uk last week?
