Where should I insert the code when I track an event on GA?
-
hi mozzers,
I am trying to setup my first event to count the numbers of downloads of an infographic(pdf file) we just created on GA and after some research I figured that I should add this piece of code (below) but where exactly?
<colgroup><col width="386"></colgroup>
|_gaq.push(['_trackevent', 'PDF', 'Download', 'name of file']);
|
Should I put it just in between _gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'coit.com']); and _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); ?
Please provide details because I ve never done this before
Thanks

About "return false", you may read this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/128923/whats-the-effect-of-adding-return-false-to-an-onclick-event
This is a good explanation.
v_ls function only adds a little time to wait in order to allow Google Analytics to store data.

Thank you guys for this answer!
In summary I have to put this code in the header of the link that carries the pdf file? (As you can see I am not a mastermind in coding...haha)
@Max: Do i have to plug this piece in order for it to work, if so why? because I read quiet a bit of articles and none of them mention a "return false" or any of the bigger piece you added(below)?
function v_ls(link, category, action) {
try {var myTracker=_gat._getTrackerByName();_gaq.push(['myTracker._trackEvent', category , action ]);setTimeout('document.location = "' + link.href + '"', 100)}catch(err){}};
Thanks Guys

David, a "return false" is missing for some browser. A timeout too (recommanded by Google in order to save all tracked event):
Try this:
And add in header this javascript function:
function v_ls(link, category, action) {
try {var myTracker=_gat._getTrackerByName();_gaq.push(['myTracker._trackEvent', category , action ]);setTimeout('document.location = "' + link.href + '"', 100)}catch(err){}};

Tracking PDF downloads from SERP clicks
For the longest time, our company policy has always been to put PDFs in a secure folder (hence they are not indexed and do not appear in search results). After evaluating this strategy, there has been clamor in recent months to allow Google to index our whitepapers. My question: Once PDFs start appearing in search results, what is the best way to start tracking clicks due to these "downloads"?

Email traffic tracking in Google Analytics
Hello! I have a question about how to assure email traffic is properly tracked in GA > Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels. **First, some background... ** Our company (Wisconsin's largest group dental practice) is about to revamp the way we try to re-capture patients who don't have a future appointment set with us. Part of that process will include emails. Those emails will point back to our website to request an appointment. Now to the question... Is there anything special we should do to assure that links coming to the website and the resulting appointment request goal conversions track appropriately and appear under "Email" in the Default Channel Group of Analytics > Acquisition > All Traffic > Channels area of GA? For example, should we use Campaign URL Builder to establish UTM links? Thanks in advance for any feedback. Erik

How to interpret search "clicks" in GA?
I am trying to make some sense of the data in the "Landing Pages" report under "Search Engine Optimization" in GA versus the data under the "Landing Pages" report in "Behavior | Site Content". For example, the SEO report says my page http://www.asiantraveltips.com/blog/bangkok-skytrain-bts-mrt-lines/ received 22,000 search impressions in the past 30 days and 900 "clicks" (12.42%). What are these "clicks" when the Content "Landing Pages" report says the same page only got 382 "sessions" in the same period??? What are these "clicks" if not clicks on the search results link that should be reflected in landing page sessions on the corresponding page?

Want to set up many goals in GA
Hi there, I have been reading about setting up goals in Google Analytics. There is a 20 goal limit, but I have many goals that I want to track (basically I have many thank-you pages that I would like to track). What is the best way to go about setting up more than 20 goals? Thanks

GA not recording visitors PART 2
Further to my question yesterday where all data for Wednesday 31st July 2013 was not showing - the data did reappear yesterday afternoon. But today, all data for yesterday seems odd - across all my projects visitor numbers appear to be around 40% down on the norm. Sales were normal, so I wonder if this is another glitch - anyone else seeing strange stats in GA for yesterday?

I am showing no (not provided) visits in GA. Is that possible?
When reviewing Organic search traffic on my site, there no (not provided) visits. Not one. I searched for the term while viewing all keyword visits and still nothing! I find that hard to believe that is possible with 6,000 monthly visits. Is something wrong? Help?!
