Which meta descriptions should I fix first?
-
Our biggest issue with SEO right now is the lack of meta descriptions. There are a ton of pages that require meta descriptions that we don't know which ones to prioritize first, namely:
-
corporate website pages
-
landing pages for specific content offers that are gated behind a form
-
blog posts
Since we can't tackle everything at once, what's best practice around which pages to fix first?
Thanks!

- corporate website pages - I would probably focus on these if they are providing conversions.
- landing pages for specific content offers that are gated behind a form - Do these landing pages even rank since they can only be accessed by filling out a form? If so, then this would be last.
- blog posts - Check you Google Analytics for the blog posts that are bringing in conversions (Time on Site, Sales, Leads, etc).
I personally would let Google Analytics "show" me what to focus on 1st. I would make the pages that are already doing good become better.

I have recently just gone through the same process with my own website and found that tackling 20 per day while having my morning coffee made light work of it. The fact that we wrote out the descriptions on a Word document first really helped as it became a quick cut'n'paste job, plus many of the descriptions are similar so it was just tweaking the text.
Start with the landing pages and add the URLs to Google and Bings WMT 'fetch page function' every day as you go along... it will be done in no time!
PS - your blog posts should have an automated posting function to make the 1st 150 chars of each article the meta description?!

You could prioritise based on the pages that get the most impressions in search.

Product Descriptions (SEO)
Hello, I sell products relating to wood. Although the products vary, I like to give description of the wood type for the customers who might not be familiar with it. Will it hurt my rankings to give the same descriptions for the same wood type as long as the majority of the description is different? Here is an example of the layout: 1. Different description for different products 2. The same short description for the same wood types (seen throughout multiple pages) Hopefully my question makes sense.

Multi channel product descriptions & dupe content issues
Hi When filling in inventory files to upload to the likes of Amazon clients will usually be copying and pasting the product descriptions from the website product descriptions into the Amazon product description field Should they really be re-written to avoid dupe content issues ? I presume not since it is the official description of the product. Please note that i'm talking here about the manufacturers website/product descriptions and their own Amazon shop descriptions. So theirs is the original authoritative description. Cheers Dan

How to handle long dynamic meta tags?
Hi All, I have a site that has upwards of 40 000 pages and I'm redeveloping it so really want to get some SEO elements spot on for the new development. Hoe do I go about handling the following: The user creates a title for their advert which I use as the meta title. The problem is titles are quite often longer that the accepted lengths. How should I handle this? String manipulation down to the desired size, leave it as is or is there another solution? The meta descriptionn is pulled from a summary they created as part of their profile. Is this the right way to do it? Any advice would be appreciated. Ross

How do I add a meta description to the individual pages on my cms driven site?
Hello, As you can tell from my question, I'm COMPLETELY new to SEO. SEOMOZ flagged some pages as lacking a meta description. How do I add a meta description to the site? The site has a CMS architecture so I can edit text on the individual pages, but I don't know how to add a meta description, or where on the page it should go. Thanks!

Changing of title page and description
Can I ask how long after changing the Title and Description tags on a website do people have to wait to see these changes reflected in Google? I changed a site of mine a couple of weeks back, pinged the site to google and had well over 5,000 googlebots to the page (not a result of pinging, I get that anyway), yet Google continues to display the old listing. Any secret techniques to speeding this up? Thanks

How unique do product descriptions need to be?
I'm rewriting approximately 10,000 product descriptions, but for feasability it's useful to sometimes reuse some of the phrases that are there (and on other websites as they come straight from the manufacturer -eg. key features), how unique does the content have to be - are we talking 100%, 75%, 50% for it to be effective in google? Same question goes for the product title! Many thanks.

How many meta tags are appropriate?
How many meta tags are appropriate? There is a page that ranks above me that has many more than I do. It has (I have removed the content of each to give a description of the type of content): I only use meta tags for keywords and description, robots. Should I have more? Thanks.
