Do facebook likes have a direct impact on SERPS?
-
If a post on my site receives a lot of facebook 'likes' does that have a direct impact on the rankings for that post? I notice SEO Moz track them so I guess they must be pretty significant. Also if someone visits my facebook page and 'likes' for example a link to an article on my site does that have an impact on SERPS? I can see that 'liking' something is a vote of confidence or a trust signal that google could use but I would imagine that if someone actually shares my content on their facebook page that would be much more valuable than a 'like'?
If facebook is important to SEO then is it worth setting up facebook ads to get my facebook page in front of an audience so that I can build 'likes'?

Hi Charles, I have to disagree if the phrase "direct impact" means higher rankings.
Here's why.... I buy Facebook Likes through Facebook ads. Matt Cutts wouldn't allow people to "buy" their way to #1 based off social signals. Same thing with Tweets.
However, if you mean "direct impact" as being getting more referral traffic to a site, then yes it can help pushing people from Facebook to a site.

Hi Samuel,
Jason wrote an excellent article covering this topic on SEOMOZ. Even though your facebook likes might not directly influence your rankings, they can definitely impact it through a lower bounce rate and a higher average time on site metrics. There is also the advantage of getting backlinks for content that you share through your social profiles. The link to the full article is provided below:

Are Facebook ads a waste of money?
Possibly a contrivercial topic as it depends on the business industry and other factors. Although when we have created targeted ads, say for example British people who live in London, aged between 30-55 as our 'targeted audience', set the ads live and we get nothing but fake followers and people from eastern countries. It seems to me as a complete waste of money.

Facebook 'SEO', Likes and Fans
I spent a bit of time this morning combing Google looking for some documentation on SEO for Facebook, specifically the value of 'likes', when liking one's status, how that effects the visibility of a given post and basically the criteria for creating whatever they deem a post to have gone 'viral'. I'm convinced there has to be some answers for my first two questions... ....somewhere. Likewise, I can appreciate if there's nothing available to answer my third question pertaining to 'viral criteria'. Nevertheless, if anyone has any resources/documentation that could provide me some insight into how FB interprets 'likes', how an increased number of 'likes' may lead to greater visibility and (more or less) the mechanics of how this interacts with the entire Facebook structure, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for reading, I look forward to the responses!

Facebook "like" discrepancy
This is a pretty stupid question sorry, but hopefully it is easy to resolve: Both OSE and Woorank list our site as having 17 Facebook likes. The Facebook icon on the page shows 92 likes. Our Facebook Page shows 560 likes. Where is the 17 number coming from?? our page is: http://www.GoldMaxUSA.com/ Thanks, Jason

How does Google measure FB likes?

Whats the SEO value of getting Likes to your brand's Facebook Page (not your site's URLs being Liked)?
UPDATED: I meant to say SEO VALUE, not just business value Lets say I have a site - www.company.com, and I set up a Facebook Page - www.facebook.com/company. I understand the SEO value of having the domain www.company.com "Liked", using the FB Like button on my homepage lets say, or the same goes for individual pages - www.company.com/page. My question is rather about having my Facebook Page - Facebook.com/company "Liked". Are those likes counted by the engines as a strong signal that www.company.com should rank well? Or only that the Facebook Page - Facebook.com/company should rank well in searches for that company?

Crawlable Facebook Comments
A lot of blogs are beginning to use facebook comments. I came across a WordPress plugin called "Crawlable Facebook Comments". The plugin makes a text version of your iframe comments visible to googlebot. You can see how it works at: http://www.zewlak.com/crawlable-facebook-comments/ Is there really any utility to this seo-wise? Comment content is normally not optimized and you will end up linking to a bunch of facebook profiles. What do you folks think?
