Can you Canonical to a URL in a different folder under the same domain?
-
I want to know if it's possible to add a canonical tag to a URL that points to a URL under a different folder. Content is just about the same.
Here's an example
(fake urls and product, but structure and parameters are similar to my client's website):
domain.com/toy-ducks-results.aspx?color=Purple&model=Elvis
domain.com/toy-ducks-details.aspx?color=Purple&model=Elvis&style=Sparkly
Let's say that my purple Elvis ducks are really popular. Is there any harm in putting a rel=canonical on the Sparkly Elvis ducks page to the purple Elvis ducks page?
Even though they are two different folders?
/toy-ducks-results and /toy-ducks-details
So, in effect, the preferred folder is /toy-ducks-results
Thanks in advance for any help.

There's nothing wrong with using canonicals to point to different folders, or even different domains.
However, the idea with canonicals is that the content of the two pages is the same, and one of them is the canonical or original version. So it wouldn't make much sense to canonical from the Sparkly page to the Elvis page, unless the content is similar or the same.

Does having a different sub domain for your Landing Page and Blog affect your overall SEO benefits and Ranking?
We have a domain www.spintadigital.com that is hosted with dreamhost and we also have a seperate subdomain blog.spintadigital.com which is hosted in the Ghost platform and we are also using Unbounce landing pages with the sub domain get.spintadigital.com. I wanted to know whether having subdomain like this would affect the traffic metric and ineffect affect the SEO and Rankings of our site. I think it does not affect the increase in domain authority, but in places like similar web i get different traffic metrics for the different domains. As far as i can see in many of the metrics these are considered as seperate websites. We are currently concentrating more on our blogs and wanted to make sure that it does help in the overall domain. We do not have the bandwidth to promote three different websites, and hence need the community's help to understand what is the best option to take this forward.

Different rankings for same keyword in different geo locations
I am listed at # 11 in google.com.pk for a same keyword but listed 4th when I use &gl=us in the same query or use a US ip address. Could this be because google's recent update and maybe they are taking time to push the update towards other countries or something else? In any case I see decent rankings when I use the query in google.com or when I use gl=us, but lower quality results in google.com.pk so please guide what is going on. Thanks in advance for guidance (y)

Redirect non www. domain to WWW. domain for established website?
Hey guys, The website in question has been online for more than 5 years but there are still 2 versions of the website. Both versions are indexed by Google and of course, this will result in duplicate content. Is it necessary to redirect the non-www domain to the www. domain. What are the cons and advantages? Will a lot of organic traffic be lost at first (if non-www are getting a good amount of traffic)? Thanks.

Aged domain and 301 redirect? (11 year old domain)
Hey everyone, I'm about to launch a new website for an accounting firm. They currently have a website, which has an 11 year old domain. They are doing very well locally for SEO, and i'm guessing it's because of the aged domain, as their website is very badly built, and contains almost no content. They would like to launch the new site with a simpler, easier to remember domain. If i launch the new site, point the aged domain using a 301 redirect, and do redirects for all of the old pages to the newer versions of them, is there a chance the company will lose their current SEO rankings? Thanks!

Robots.txt: Can you put a /* wildcard in the middle of a URL?
We have noticed that Google is indexing the language/country directory versions of directories we have disallowed in our robots.txt. For example: Disallow: /images/ is blocked just fine However, once you add our /en/uk/ directory in front of it, there are dozens of pages indexed. The question is: Can I put a wildcard in the middle of the string, ex. /en/*/images/, or do I need to list out every single country for every language in the robots file. Anyone know of any workarounds?
