Advice on improve this content page for seo and google
-
Hi, i use joomla and i am looking for some help to find out what i should be doing to make my content pages better for seo and google.
I would be grateful if people would look at the following page as an example http://www.in2town.co.uk/trip-advisor/top-american-ski-resorts-for-over-50s
and let me know what i should be doing to make it better for seo and for google so people can find the page.
I am using the above page as an example so i can learn from it.
I would be grateful if people could look at the source code for the page to see if there is anything that should be in their that is not and if i should be looking at any joomla plugins for the content pages to improve the seo of the page.
Any help to improve my seo for my content pages would be great.
many thanks

h mark, it maybe because that is a different author on that page. but the one here is the second one i done and the one above is the 1st as a test
here is the article
i have been adding more to the articles on my site but as yet i have not seen one picture show up in google when i do a search.
-
Hi Diane,
Yes, I would suggest adding the above code I suggested and customizing it to the page.
The rich snippet testing tool indicates that authorship is working for your page but there still must be something which is incorrect -
Let me know how you get on,
Mark
-
Hi, do you know how long the authorship takes to show up in google. i have added it to many articles on my site but cannot see any results
-
going to spend the night going through the site adding authorship to the articles, but just researching at the moment i am sort out the apply publisher markup to the home page of my site
this has been great information, many thanks.
I have been doing a lot of things wrong, for example the images, now i think it would be best putting the title of the page in the image description or relevant information
-
i have authorised with google this page 52-million-people-take-trips-to-spain-for-cheap-holidays but i take it i still need to put the above information on the page
-
Hi Diane,
- Apply Authorship markup for the person who has written the article.
- Apply publisher markup (your brand Google + page) to the homepage of the site.
- For the logo, just link it to the homepage. I'm not sure what you mean by text in regards this.
Best wishes,
Mark

Hi, thanks for this. Can i confirm a couple of things. If we have a few writers then we would have to have dfferent google authorship, we would not be able to have one under the name of in2town.
i was not aware that the logo should link to our home page, i will do this now, under what text would you link it to the home page, should we be putting in2town, or lifestyle magazine
many thanks fr your help

Hi Diane,
I thought I wold jump in as no one else has so far. My suggestions are noted below -
- Apply Google + authorship markup to all of the articles on your site.
If we take the article you just linked to as an example, you can see that markup has no been applied to it.
If you can't find a suitable Joomla SEO plugin (apologies, my Joomla knowledge is poor so I can't recommend one), you need to add the below HTML to each article and tailor it.

I would also suggest improving the content a little bit. The title of the article is 'Top American ski resorts for over 50s, but the content of the article doesn't make it clear what the top resorts actually are. The body of the article would benefit greatly from more information about the resorts in a clear format, and possibly with added images.
-
The alt text for the image seems a little spammy - 'skiing holiday ideas'. The alt text of an image should reflect what the image is about.
-
Random suggestion, I find it strange that your logo doesn't link to the homepage
-
The title tag of your site doesn't contain your brand name. Worth putting at the end of the title tag.
I could go a lot deeper but hopefully that's a starting point for you Diane.
Any more questions then just shout!
Best wishes,
Mark

Google not returning an international version of the page
I run a website that duplicates some content across international editions. These are differentiated by the country codes e.g. /uk/folder/article1/ /au/folder/article1/ The UK version is considered the origin of the content. We currently use hreflang to differentiate content, however there is no actual regional or language variation between the content on these pages. Recently the UK version of a specific article is being indexed by Google as I am able to access via keyword search, however when I try to search for it via: site:domain.com/uk/folder/article1/then it is not displaying, however the AU version is. Identical articles in the same folder are not having this issue. There are no errors within webmaster tools and I have recently refetched the specific URL. Additionally when checking for internal links to the UK and AU edition of the article, I am getting internal links for the AU edition of the article however no internal links for the UK edition of the article. The main reason why this is problematic is because the article is now no longer appearing on the UK edition of the site for internal site search. How can I find out why Google is not getting a result when the URL is entered but it is coming up when doing a specific search?

2 links on home page to each category page ..... is page rank being watered down?
I am working on a site that has a home page containing 2 links to each category page. One of the links is a text link and one link is an image link. I think I'm right in thinking that Google will only pay attention to the anchor text/alt text of the first link that it spiders with the anchor text/alt text of the second being ignored. This is not my question however. My question is about the page rank that is passed to each category page..... Because of the double links on the home page, my reckoning is that PR is being divided up twice as many times as necessary. Am I also right in thinking that if Google ignore the 2nd identical link on a page only one lot of this divided up PR will be passed to each category page rather than 2 lots ..... hence horribly watering down the 'link juice' that is being passed to each category page?? Please help me win this argument with a developer and improve the ranking potential of the category pages on the site 🙂

Tags causing Duplicate page content?
I was looking through the 'Duplicate Page Content' and Too Many On-Page Link' errors and they all seem to be linked to the 'Tags' on my blog pages. Is this really a problem and if so how should I be using tags properly to get the best SEO rewards?

Google , 301 redirects, and multiple domains pointing to the same content.
Google, 301 redirects, and multiple domains pointing to the same content. This is my first post here. I would like to begin by thanking anyone in advance for their help. It is much appreciated. Secondly, I'm posting in the wrong place or something please forgive me simply point me in the right direction I'm a quick learner. I think I'm battling a redirect problem but I want to be sure before I make changes. In order to accurately assess the situation a little background is necessary. I have had a site called tx-laws.com for about 15 years. It was a site that was used primarily by private resource and as such was never SEO'd. The site itself was in fact quite Seo unfriendly. despite a complete lack of marketing or SEO efforts, over time, SEO aside, this domain eventually made it to page one of Google Yahoo and Bing under the keywords Texas laws. About six months ago I decided to revamp the site and create a new resource aimed at a public market. A good deal of effort was made to re-work the SEO. The new site was developed at a different domain name: easylawlook up.com. Within a few months this domain name surpassed tx-laws in Google and was holding its place in position number eight out of 190 million results. Note that at this point no marketing has been done, that is to say there has been no social networking, no e-mail campaigns, no blogs, -- nothing but content. All was well until a few weeks ago I decided to upgrade our network and our servers. During this period there was some downtime unfortunately. When the upgrade was complete everything seemed fine until a week or so later when our primary domain easy law look up vanished off Google. At first I thought it was downtime but now I'm not so sure. The current configuration reroutes traffic from tx-laws to easylawlookup in IIS by pointing both domains to the same root directory. Everything else was handled through scripting. As far as I know this is how it was always set up. At present there is no 301 Redirect in place for tx-laws (as I'm sure there probably should be). Interestingly enough the back links to easylaw also went away. Even more telling however is that now when I visit link: easylawlookup.com there is only one link, and that link is to a domain which references tx-laws not easy law. So it would appear that I have confused Google with regards to my actual intentions. My question is this. Right now my rankings for tx-laws remain unchanged. The last thing I want to have happen is to see those disappear as well. If easy law has somehow been penalized and I redirect tx-laws to easy through a 301 will I screw up my rankings for this domain as well? Any comments or input on the situation are welcome. I just want to think it through before I start making more changes which might make things worse instead of better. Ultimately though, there is no reason that the old domain can't be redirected to the new domain at this point unless it would mean that I run the risk of losing my listings for tx-laws, ending up with nothing instead of transferring any link juice and traffic to easy law. With regards to the down time, it was substantial over a couple of weeks with many hours off-line. However this downtime would have affected both domains the only difference being that the one domain had been in existence for 15 years as opposed to six months for the other. So is my problem downtime, lack of proper 301 redirect, or something else? and if I implement a 301 at this point do I risk damaging the remaining domain which is operational? Thanks again for any help.
