Is Blog Commenting still an acceptable way of linking
-
Hi,
Is it still acceptable to blog comment as a way of build keyword related links to your site? I see a lot of it and of and 98% looks spammy and obvious.. But I just wondered as so many people seem to do it and they seem to get results within google, However my feeling is that they will get burnt sooner or later
Thakns,

I appreciate the shoutout Rob. Thanks to you both for reading. I really appreciate that. You are both sp right. Engagement is key. And the best part, you just never know what that relationship you work at building via the comment might lead to, whether it's traffic, links a guest post or just a great friendship...all are very worthwhile in my book.

All kinds of links, together make up a natural link profile. Never use any one kinds of links too much. When you do that, that's when the trouble begins.
I think of Link Building as brand building. What would you do if the Search Engines did not exist ? What would you do to get your website some traffic ? The answer lies within
-
Hi Rob,
1. One link (keyword in anchor text) in comment, and one as a link to the clients site as part of a signature.
2. I would always recommend answering in the third person for a client (get their approval first), therefore their name and company or url
3. general terms EG/ click here, site, follow the link, read more and branded terms EG/ company name, company URL, branded products etc... The suggestion is 30% for each roughly...
Hope you find this useful.

Hello,
Thank you for your great answer,
Can I ask a couple more questions pls:
-1- What do you mean by 50/50 Rule? one link within the comment and one link in the sign off name with no follow?
-2-. in the sign off would I use my name/company or my name and the companies name for which I'm doing the comment for, i.e. the companies for which I was posting the comment for would be much more relative industrial wise to the content of the blog. Or is that a No No?
-3- ... "targeted keywords should be less than 40% of your backlinking profile"
what should the other 60% be, non keyword related, i.e. just your website name, or are you referring to general other links?
You have a lot of good points.. thanks in advance..

Thank you very much the article you referenced was of great help. I guess the key in the majority of the poorly written blog comments which I have seen is where they used the keyword as the name of the commenter and then the comment they left was something like "Great article, thanks so much for the helpful information..

If you are going to utilize blog commenting just do it naturally. When I make blog comments I do not use Anchor Text as my name and I vary my URL from homepage, inner page and social media pages. I find that a well formulated blog comment can give you so SEO benefit along with some direct traffic to your website.

Hi Rob,
Absolutely. The key is, like Agents of Value suggest, an honest and valuable response on the right types of sites are the way to go.
I stick to the 50-50 rule when it comes to commenting on blogs. Firstly, I would never run more than 2 links per comment. I would respond to a blog with some prior knowledge (if you are working for a client, get them to offer an answer) and in the response, I would pick on one keyphrase to link from, maximum. Then at the end of the comment, sign off with your name and site/company... EG/ Dan from f4240.com (see what I did there, one no-follow link for me
Although the current understanding is targeted keywords should be less than 40% of your backlinking profile, this will head you in the right direction.
I think the way to approach it is a well worded comment will give you three things, the acknowledgement that you a vocal and experienced person in your field, it will also give you natural traffic to your site as the person reading will want to know more and finally, the SEO benefit. If you focus on nailing the first two benefits the SEO benefits is a bonus.
Best of success

Hi there,
I asked this same question last week and got really good opinions from some of the members here.
Blog commenting can be risky if you'll just use it to optimize your keywords. However, if done right (written properly and with value), this is an effective way to build keywords, and credibility, online. If you're giving out comments that are useful, sort of like this Q and A here, then readers actually listen. Plus Google will also see how authoritative you are and will probably credit your site for it.
Here's a case study of one SEOMoz member, who have found out how blog commenting can still be effective Post Penguin. This might help you decide whether to still pursue that strategy.
Cheers!

Am I better off with ten links from one site or one link from ten sites?
I am writing a series of linked-back articles for a highly-ranked web publisher, but wonder if I'd be better off sharing the articles across different sites. My goal is to grow our domain authority and SEO rankings.

Getting a sitewide links from one domain as oppsed to few links from certain pages, a good, bad or horrible idea?
Hello, I have a website that is performing really well in Google for country specific Real Estate Website. I have had this site for just about 2 years and I have 4600+ indexed pages, and about 50 of my main keywords appear in top 10 results on Google. I have now started a second site with a brand new domain, its only about 2 months old. This one is a Travel website and again its country specific (same country that real estate website is performing well in) and since its still building up the content and has barely a couple of backlinks, I am thinking of adding a linkback to it from my Real Estate Site. Is it a good idea to add a site wide link back from header section of the real estate website to my travel website? Both sites has same country and most of the keywords in both relate to this country. Or will I be better off adding a few text links from few pages with best Page Authority? Or - do you suggest that I do not link the two at all? Both sites are hosted on different servers, with different IP's and one is on windows server created in asp.net while another is a magento site. Any advidce / insight will be much appreciated and thank you in advance.

Internal linking anchor text with automated ASP.NET link building
Hi Everyone I really need some help here, the problem I have must be one that many have. I have a simple e-commerce style website so 1 product page can in fact get 40-50 internal links to it. These links come from a mixture of: 1. The parent category pages that the product sits on (Rugged PDA) and in turn the 10 filter pages of this category page (Rugged PDA, ordered by battery size). 2. Alternative product list on other product pages, So many products link to each other as alternatives. From Google analytics we can see that visitors like to browse product to product seeing 5 alternatives on each page with titles like "Smaller", "more rugged" etc. 3. Manufactuer pages, so we have a link to each product from each manufacturer home page where we talk lots about each manufacture we resell. We also have links from images used in the website. So its a nice usable website but we're finding that Google is still telling us in Webmaster tools that it thinks some links are dubious and we're trying to find out why. We only now have 190 external links to the website, most are internal and from the website or our blog on a subdomain. The problem we think is that we generate the category and products pages all dynamically so the anchor text is looking the same. Will this potentially create issues for us? Dave

Outbound links
We are working with a large, global customer that has asked us to link to their website from about 5,000 pages of our website. The links would either point to one page on their website, or they would point to specific pages throughout their website. Is this a bad thing from an SEO perspective, as in - would either of us be penalized from search engines for doing this?

How to improve (ASAP) the linking root domain, the followed linking root domains and the linking C-Blocks? Linkbuilding (or whatever) techniques.
I have a small site (.com) like any website in my sector. 30-90 pages. I have no crawls errors. Everythings is fine, just I need to improve my linking root domain, the followed linking root domain and the linking C-Blocks. Example: my competitors have 300 (one of them have 1300) of total links. I have 30. Anyone know some good strategies? techniques? tips? I just dont want to be in a farm directory, I want free links. I'm already running two strategies but it works so slowly. I want something faster at this moment. Also, any recommendation will be thankful.

Should I unify my links?
Checking at opensiteexplorer.org I can see that: mydomain.com has has DA 26, linking root domains 1, total links 22 www.mydomain.com has DA 26, linking root domains 31, total links 89 The 22 links to the non-www domain come from the same site, which I would be able to convince to change to the www domain. Is it worth doing it? Will it add up to better DA? Thanks J PS: with only 32 root domains I think I have to do some serious link building...

Link Frequency
I understand that good link building is all about the quality of the link / the anchor text attached to it. But, what about frequency? Should I build until I can't build anymore? or create a plan to submit links to a certain # of sites per week/month?
