Duplicate content or not ?
-
Hello,
I would like your expert opinion
I have a site in spanish for Spain and Mexico
As domain name, I have .es and .mx
This is the same site. We do not have any redirects. From .mx to .es for example.
>> your opinion?
if I declare targeting in Spain in Google Webmaster tools (in settings) and in another profile with in Mexico, we have a duplicate content?Thank you for your feedback.
Sorry for my english, i'm french

Even if you are substantially right, sometimes that is impossible (imagine an eCommerce with 100K+ products.
The differences will be minimal (currency for instance, being pesos in MX and Euro in ES).
That's why it exists the rel="alternate" hreflang (see my answer below for more).

Ciao
Your situation is quite "simple" to solve.
The .es and .mx site are automatically targeting their corresponding countries (Spain and Mexico).
In order to make sure Google that you know that the content of both is identical, but that you wanted to "duplicate" it because of some localization reasons (i.e.: currency), then you should implement the hreflang mark up, as it is explained here by Google itself:

Nope... never use google translate... it may lead to horrible results also from an SEO point of view.
-
I don't think you can...
Your case is valid in a way, since you only intend to deliver each content to specific countries and after all it should not matter if both sites are the same since users from spain should not go on the .mx and vice versa.
However google is not human and might not see it the same way.
I would not take a chance on this and make both sites kind of unique.
You may for example allow people to comment on your pages, this will create a "uniqeiness" since comments from spain should be different from Mexico.
Even very large websites like walmart, staples, etc... are slightly different from country to country.

Merci pour la réponse.

Bonjour Denis,
Ca va? D'accord, je desirerai d'assistez vouz. Je pense que c'est une probleme commun. Je regrette mon francais!
Okay, now in English if you please.
THe path you are on is going to lead to duplicate content and there's no way around it that I know. I would suggest building one fabulous site in your primary language and let people translate it themselves via Google Translate. I'm not sure if that's a ridiculously simplistic view or not. But it's what I would do for my own sites and suggest to clients.
A bientot!
Dana

Merci pour la version française

the .mx and .es will be treated as 2 separate websites, so as far as google is concerned you can use each site to target a specific country.
I am not 100% sure, but if both sites are exactly the same, I think one of the two might be discounted because of the duplicate content.

This is the same text ; but with Google Webmaster tools, can i avoid duplicate content ?
.es >> for Spain
.mx >> for Mexico
-
Are the text content the same on these 2 sites? If so, then you will have problem with duplicate content.

Hreflang tags and canonical tags - might be causing indexing and duplicate content issues
Hi, Let's say I have a site located at https://www.example.com, and also have subdirectories setup for different languages. For example: https://www.example.com/es_ES/ https://www.example.com/fr_FR/ https://www.example.com/it_IT/ My Spanish version currently has the following hreflang tags and canonical tag implemented: My robots.txt file is blocking all of my language subdirectories. For example: User-agent:* Disallow: /es_ES/ Disallow: /fr_FR/ Disallow: /it_IT/ This setup doesn't seem right. I don't think I should be blocking the language-specific subdirectories via robots.txt What are your thoughts? Does my hreflang tag and canonical tag implementation look correct to you? Should I be doing this differently? I would greatly appreciate your feedback and/or suggestions.

SEO Strategy for international website with similar content
Hello, If a company is in different countries and has same content in most of the countries does it hurt SEO? For Ex. fibaro.com is the website that I am researching and I have seen the indexed pages to be about 40,000 however there is not much content on it. On further inspection I noticed that for every country the sub folder is different. So for us it will be fibaro.com/us/motion-sensor and for Europe fibaro.com/en/motion-sensor. Now both of these pages have same content on it and the company is in 86 countries so imagine the amount of duplicate content it has. Does anybody have any ideas on what should be an ideal way to approach this? Thanks

How to handle different content on same domain internationally?
Dear community, I have encountered a unique situation and I am unsure as how to proceed, I have a U.S. based website for intentions of this question is www.musicstore.com. The customer has decided to offer their products up for sale internationally, however, has two business requirements, one is that his international presence differs with product offering and content then the domestic version and two, that they both live on the same domain of www.musicstore.com without any reference to offering a differing international presence. Many of his products are offered for purchase directly overseas, while not against his suppliers rules, it is frowned upon. All this said, now to my question. I'm currently running a Magento two website install. With GeoIP setting which version of www.musicstore.com is presented. Do I have to worry about different content being displayed on the same exact url even though the experience is completely location based? If it is a concern, any risks I should be concerned with. I could possibly do something along the lines of www.musicstore.com/in/ while this is not ideal for the customer, if it prevents many larger issues I'd steer the customer this way. I just want my customer to be able to sell his product internationally without upsetting his suppliers or making Google go, what does this site actually have. Hopefully I explained my question well enough for those who can help to understand. Please ask if you need any more information. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Website Domains, Geographical targeting and Duplicate Content
My colleagues in Holland have 2 websites. I've copied and pasted their question - my comments are at the bottom "www.ancoferwaldram.nl with NL, EN and FR language www.ancoferwaldram.com with only EN language The EN versions Google sees as “duplicate content” so we have to get rid of that. I think we better use 1 website: www.ancoferwaldram.com with NL, EN, FR and maybe other languages and deactivate www.ancoferwaldram.nl Or keep the www.ancoferwaldram.nl with only the NL language? Or keep the www.ancoferwaldram.nl with direct links to www.ancoferwaldram.com and no content?" The focus is to get the site to rank in Non-eu countries for export. So given the .nl has higher DA (though only about 15) would it be better to have seperate .fr, .be, .com sites for specific languages and geo targeting. Or would it be better to keep everything on the same site? If so which domain? i assume that the duplicate content can be resolved by stating which is the canonical version, once the domain strategy is resolved welcome any thoughts here. 🙂

Do you think the SEs would see this as duplicate content?
Hi Mozzers! I have a U.S. website and a Chinese version of that U.S. website. The China site only gets direct and PPC traffic because the robots.txt file is disallowing the SEs from crawling it. Question: If I added English sku descriptions and English content to the China site (which is also on our U.S. site), will the SEs penalize us for duplicate content even though the robots.txt file doesn’t allow them to see it? I plan on translating the descriptions and content to Chinese at a later date, but wanted to ask if the above was an issue. Thanks Mozzers!

Will Google punish me cuz my websites content are almost the same?
If I have almost the same contents for my three e-commerce websites, say A.com,B.uk,C.ca. They're promoted in US, GB, Canada which are all English speaking. Will my site be punished because they're almost the same to Google?

Duplicated 404 Pages (Travel Industry)
Our website has creating numberous "future pages" with no alt tag or class tag that are showing up as 404 pages, To make matters worst, they are causing duplicate 404 pages because we have different languages. The visitors cant find the 404s but the searchbots can. Would it better to remove or add the links to robot.txt or add nofollow/noindex tag? This is an example. http://www.solmelia.com/nGeneral.LINK_FAQ http://www.solmelia.com/nGeneral.LINK_HOTELESDESTINOS_BODAS http://www.solmelia.com/nGeneral.LINK_CONDICIONES http://www.solmelia.com/nGeneral.LINK_MAPSITE http://www.solmelia.com/nGeneral.LINK_HOTELESDESTINOS_EMPRESA
