How could I create this? Would it be a chrome extension?
-
I do a lot of checking for duplicate content on sites. I use chrome and generally I highlight a phrase, do right click and then "Search Google for...". However, I would like to have a quick shortcut where I can search Google for a phrase that is enclosed in quotes.
Is there a chrome extension for this? If not, can I build one?
Thanks.

Huge congratulations on the new status, Dana!
The gag is, we've all been turned back into Aspirants. Glitch in the Matrix, I guess, but check yourself and you'll see. (Points are still there, just the title has changed.)

I think it's pretty safe to say you are all gurus. Marie was being facetious, I think.

Nakul,
That's kinda cool, I will check it out.
Hey, sorry to hear about Alan getting kicked out of the Guru club, (who know's what he said to offend the moz team!!!).
What?!?!
Me too!?!?!
I could understand with him, I mean hell, compare our photos! I am pretty!!!

LOL....this is what I get when a non-guru answers my question.

hire an intern. "go look for duplicate content". Done!

Thanks. I've got a few of those. But I'm just looking for a way to shorten the process of taking a chunk of text and searching Google for it in quotes.

I just found this Chrome Extension, which does have a copyscape aspect in it. So you can click a button and it can check the entire page, not just a small snippet of text or phrase.

I hope this helps.

That would be handy wouldn't it? Even more so if you could highlight a few snippets and it searched for each phrase occurring on a single page.
A browser extension would be the way to go, but I have no idea if there is one out there already. Doesn't sound difficult though.

Using Hreflang Tags For Australian Domain Extension
Hi Guys, We have a company with a Australian domain www.domain.com.au which has just launched in the US market. The company is in the process of purchasing the .com version of the domain and then the plan is to have one single global .com site (like apple.com) on a new domain which would be domain.com and put both the (US version) and (Australian Version) on the new domain: domain.com (global). e.g. domain.com/us and domain.com/au However the .com version won't be available till March 2016. The company still wants to launch in the US market asap with it's current .com.au domain. which it has. So basically the current set-up is like this: http://www.domain.com.au/us/ (US homepage) http://www.domain.com.au/ (Australian homepage) I was wondering, does anyone know if hreflang tag can be used on a .com.au extension to target specific pages to the US. e.g. I was wondering will the hreflang tag override the fact that Google would automatically geo-target the .com.au extension to Australia? e.g. would the http://www.domain.com.au/us/ (US version) with the hreflang tag above be considered as the US version, even-though we it's on a .com.au domain extension? Cheers.

Blog tags are creating excessive duplicate content...should we use rel canonicals or 301 redirects?
We are having an issue with our cilent's blog creating excessive duplicate content via blog tags. The duplicate webpages from tags offer absolutely no value (we can't even see the tag). Should we just 301 redirect the tagged page or use a rel canonical?

So in your opinion, beside the obvious, what are the most important steps you must take? Here is what I do: 1. 301 old site to new one and TEST.

Duplicate site (disaster recovery) being crawled and creating two indexed search results
I have a primary domain, toptable.co.uk, and a disaster recovery site for this primary domain named uk-www.gtm.opentable.com. In the event of a disaster, toptable.co.uk would get CNAMEd (DNS alias) to the .gtm site. Naturally the .gtm disaster recover domian is an exact match to the toptable.co.uk domain. Unfortunately, Google has crawled the uk-www.gtm.opentable site, and it's showing up in search results. In most cases the gtm urls don't get redirected to toptable they actually appear as an entirely separate domain to the user. The strong feeling is that this duplicate content is hurting toptable.co.uk, especially as .gtm.ot is part of the .opentable.com domain which has significant authority. So we need a way of stopping Google from crawling gtm. There seem to be two potential fixes. Which is best for this case? use the robots.txt to block Google from crawling the .gtm site 2) canonicalize the the gtm urls to toptable.co.uk In general Google seems to recommend a canonical change but in this special case it seems robot.txt change could be best. Thanks in advance to the SEOmoz community!

Create a link or redirect?
We have 60 demo movie pages on our site. We no longer link to these movie pages internally, because they are outdated; however, a lot of our partner companies are still linking to these pages. Some of these pages will have 10-15 linking root domains and a page authority of 30+... so pretty decent authority. These pages only include a movie on the pages, no links. I am trying to pass some of the link juice from these pages to other pages on our site. I am wondering if I should: A)Include transcripts on these pages, then link back to our current product page or solution pages? B)Set up redirects from these pages to a product or solution page? C)Set up a redirect to our homepage? Any advice? Thanks, Mike

Create different pages with keyword variations VS. Add keyword variations in 1 page
For searches involving keywords like "lessons", "courses", "classes" I see frequently pages in the top rankings which do not contain the search term in the title tag, despite these terms being quite competitive. It seems that when searching for "classes", google detects that pages about "courses" may be just as relevant. What do you recommend? option 1: creating 10 pages optimized on 10 different keyword variations, each with a significant part of unique content or option 2: one page and dropping throughout the page 10 keyword variations in body and headlines Given that keywords are all synonyms and website has already high domain authority in the niche. thanks
