Automatic Redirect

Good morning to all! Is it normal that I change link and it automatically redirect to the new one? Our links are too long and all have Diani Beach in it what we have done a long time ago as we though it is a good move
Now I know it is bed so I just opened post and change the permalink and then I open it in new window and instead of Not Found it opens the new link. Can I be doing this? -

Then you must be having a plugin in it which handles redirection automatically. something like this one http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/redirection/.
It is highly recommended you have this kind of plugin so that when you change URL, it automatically makes a redirect entry.
In case you do not want to use it then you will need to make entries in Apache.

I am sorry, and appreciate your time to explain, but I am not getting it:-( I still do not know the answer to my question how is it possible that the links I change are automatically redirect to the new links.

There are many ways to do it - I recommend you to read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URL_redirection#Techniques
Out of the given methods Apache mod rewrite is best as it gives proper information to search engines that the page is permanently redirected. Apart from this you can use 'noindex' on old URL so that search engines do not index it.

Hi Nitin, Thank you very very much for your reply. I understand that to redirect links is ok but how is it possible??? What is the issues around how to redirect with 301 and how comes I do not need to do this and it does on its own?? I do not have such plugin which makes automatic redirect on my theme http://villasdiani.com Example: I have created a post a long time ago which had quite long url.. Now, I did not like it, so I just change the link and instead of being not found it is found under the new link with no problem. How is this possible? The reason why I am asking is that I am afraid I will now change a number of links which are too long and as I do not know what is helping me to do the automatic redirect, perhaps one day I remove it and then I will end up with 300 not found links:-(

It is perfectly normal to redirect URLs automatically. You just need to keep basics of SEO in account. Danny Dover, in his book SEO Secrets, wrote "A pyramid structure for a website allows the most possible link juice to get to all the website’s pages with the fewest number of links."
One issue which generally comes is that the old pages are properly redirected making 2 pages available to search engines, thus eroding value or URLs.

Hi, I am performing some backlink updates for a client and would like to know if I can speed the process up. Currently I am contact site owners and asking them to update the links that appear on their website of my clients. As this is tedious work, can I just setup 301 redirects for these products instead of contacting site owners and asking them to change the URL? Redirects affect on page and domain authority
Hi - excuse me if this is stupid question but I'm rather new to this. Currently the PA for the home page is 16 and the DA 28 and I have some concerns that my efforts are being diluted. When I use OSE on www.sassandgrace.co.uk I get different link results to sassandgrace.co.uk but there is a redirect in place to sassandgrace.co.uk and cannot run a crawl report, for example, on www.sassandgrace.co.uk. The PA and DA are identical for each but the number of links different With a smallish number of links pointing to each but with a redirect in place, am I losing some of the effect or is having the redirect in place giving me all the credit for links to both addresses? 301 redirect lost page authority & total links how ensure it passes on.
hello, I recently changed from www to non www. I have redirected my whole website so if I type www. it goes to the non-www page. doing a open site explorer I noticed my www. still has the page authority 14/100 with 6 links. where as the non-www page has 1/100 page authority and no links. how do I get the www. to mirror the non-www links?

eg if you goto http://www.finnmoto.com.au/mens-motorcycle-kevlar-hoodie/ it will goto the non-www version automatically, so why does the non-www replicate the page authority / total links attached picture for reference.
Google webmaster has been selected for non-www, its been about 2 weeks.
my domain authority i think about about 21 or more now its 19 aswell. I have a feeling:

Best SEO practice to redirect affiliate link
Hello, I got an affiliate program on my website, that redirects the affiliate link to the main site like: site.com/ads/aff_code/ -> site.com/ (The redirect is done using a 301 status code.) On the redirect process the site stores a cookie to track the affiliate sale. Will Google and others SE follow this permanent redirect, transferring the relevance of this affiliate link to my main site? In other words, if an affiliate does something wrong (like spams), does the bad reputation will be transferred to my main site? Is there a better way to do that from a SEO standpoint? Thanks,

Value of Link Redirect from Google News
Some sites are linking to us with the URL from Google News instead of using a direct link. For example: "http://news.google.com/news/url?sa=t&fd=R&usg=ghjgjhggjhgkjghjg&url=http://www.oursite.com/awesome-news-010123/" Does this pass the same value as a normal link? I asked the publisher to replace the link with a normal link but they pushed back saying that the news URL is better.

Will Google penalize for redirects related to a company merger?
Company A is set to acquire Company B. As part of the merger agreement, Company A will be redirecting the linking domains of Company B's website (over 1,000 links) to company A's website. Will Google penalize Company A for redirecting Company B's 1,000 linking domains to Company A's website at one time? Retain keywords with redirect
I manage a site the sells product A and product B (both major keywords for us). If I buy the url www.productB.com and redirect it to the original website, would the original website gain any benefits in search engines? Would the benefits of having a url with the keyword be lessened because there isn't content hosted there, only a redirect to the original site?
