Rankings dropped off a cliff. Webmaster tools message: No manual spam actions found. Now what?
-
A week ago my rankings for http://www.top-10-dating-reviews.com (some adult content) dropped and I'm now getting now impressions. I submitted a reconsideration request as I was sure I hadn't violated any rules and today the reply was that no manual spam actions were found.
Te email goes onto say there are a variety of other things that could affect rankings such as site architecture, not being able to crawl and algo changes. As far as I'm aware all these issues are fine. I'm not aware of any algo updates last weekend.
my question is what can I do now? I need to get my rankings back but there's nothing wrong with my site or practices.

Thanks for your reply. I've done quite a lot of link building since the last OSE update so maybe when the next OSE update happens I'll get a better overview of my link profile and see where there could be problems. The only real strategy I've used though is guest blog posts on quality sites. I always run them through OSE to make sure they're authorative and have a good link profile. I've been careful to vary anchor text too.
The keywords I'm after aren't particularly difficult to rank for ( according to the keyword research tool on here they're in the 30% - 50% range) so I thought the amount of work I'd done and the ranking positions were about right.
I think I'll just keep building links I guess and try to keep building the site. I guess that's all I can do.

If the penalty is algorithmic, then it could be a penguin or unnatural links penalty. Alternatively, some of your links that were powering your site could have been devalued.
Just popped your site into OSE and it can only find 73 links. That isn't many at all, so one may argue that it was quite fortunate for your site to be ranking this highly to begin with. Looking at your who.is data, I can see the site is less than six months old - there is a "freshness" factor in the algorithm that will promote new content/sites to begin with - it could be that this factor has now worn off.
Having looked at your link profile, I can see that the majority of your links are directory links, with some article directory stuff in there like SelfGrowth. It's links like these that I imagine the algorithm would have devalued last week. Incidentally, yours is yet another site with alltop links that looks to have been devalued - I really think Google are going after these directories hard.
Now, just because you have been devalued doesn't mean you have been penalised - you wouldn't necessarily need to remove these links unless they formed unnatural anchor text, which really isn't the case with your site.
I feel for you mate because it's a very hard niche to do the normal inbound/content marketing for, as many people don't want that content on their sites, while other people just blast high PR paid links to their site to rank. My suggestion to you is to replace these directory links with new ones of a better quality, but in your particular circumstance, this is easier said then done.
Hope this helps a little bit - quite confident this is why your rankings have dropped, but getting them back might be a lot more difficult.

Ranking drop for "Mobile" devices category in Google webmaster tools
Hi, Our rank dropped and we noticed it's a major drop in "Mobile" devices category, which is contributing to the overall drop. What exactly drops mobile rankings? We do not have any messages in search console. We have made few redirects and removed footer links. How these affect? Thanks,

Penguin recovery, no manual action. Are our EMD sites killing our brand site?
Hi guys, Our brand site (http://urban3d.net) has been seeing steady decline due to algorithm updates for the past two years. Our previous SEO company engaged in some black-hat link building which has hurt us very badly. We have recently re-launched the site, with better design, better content, and completed a disavow of hundreds of bad links. The site is technically indexed, but is still nowhere in the SERPs after months of work to recover it by our internal marketing team. The last SEO company also told us to build EMD sites for our core services, which we did: http://3dvisualisation.co.uk/ http://propertybrochure.com/ http://kitchencgi.com/ My question is - could these EMD sites now hurting us even further and stopping our main brand site from ranking? Our plan is to rescue our brand site, with a view to retiring these outlier sites. However, with no progress on the brand site, we can't afford to remove these site (which are ranking). It seems a bit chicken and egg. Any advice would be very much appreciated. Aidan, Urban 3D

301 Redirected url to new subdomain, now the rank appears to be completely gone...
In an attempt to not feel bad for not blogging, I set up a new subdomain on my site to have a "coming soon" style page and "best of" section for my blog and video show properties. All the pages on the relaunch subdomain are done in Unbounce. http://relaunch.tommy.ismy.name The idea was that I would then take the pages on my regular domain, and one by one create landing pages that test out new design ideas (instead of going into full production web design) and redirect the traffic from the top ranked pages to the new, redesigned pages. At first, I set up the 301 through a plugin in wordpress and for the first week or so it was great. As far as I know, I did set my canonical tags up properly on that page too. However, just a couple days ago, I wasn't getting the same traffic, and my top ranked keyword that accounts for over half my traffic is nowhere to be found in at least the first 15 pages of search results. Which stinks, because I've maintained that rank for well over 2 years 😞 Clearly, something I did wasn't liked by Google, and I wonder, what did I do "wrong" and is there anything I could do to get that rank back?

Webmaster Tools Internal Links
Hi all, I have around 400 links in the navigation menu (site-wide) and when I use webmaster tools to check for internal links to each page; some have as many as 250K and some as little as 200. Shouldn't the number of internal links for pages found in the navigation menu be relatively the same? Or is Google registering more internal links for pages linked closer to the top of the code Thanks!

Why the sudden link drop?
A the end of November I am showing that our total links were 118k. Current links are 22k. We changed sites early November so that was about three weeks before. What would cause the drop of about 100k links? Or where should I start investigating?
