Open Site Explorer Question
-
Ok, so Open Site Explorer question:
Say you enter a link and filter as follows - Followed + 301, only external, this page, ungroup.
Now lets say 50 links appear from the same domain, when you visit the domain one of those Go Daddy type parked domain pages appear with lots of adsense as they usually do.
Link back... No where to be seen.
What's the score here? Is this domain showing up because OSE is yet to update for this domain?
-
Nice, thanks very much for the update.
-
That's a good guess. OSE is up to a few weeks behind on links. If you tried this query yesterday, try again today to see if it still happens, since we just released an index yesterday. You might check web.archive.org to see what it looked like a few months ago, or even Bing's cache to see if it was a fairly recent change (Bing tends to update more slowly than Google).

Morally Right vs Strategic 404 Question
Hey, I bought my domain name not even thinking of the backlink profile advantages. However, now I have about 140 links back to my site delivering 404 errors. Some with DA only in the teens, but some more. What would you consider the right way to go about this? Should I redirect them to my homepage? Should I try to disavow them? Any thoughts are welcome.

We're creating buyers guides for the each category on our ecommerce website and we're not sure where to place the content for maximum impact. Option a: place the content on the category page beneath the product listings Option b: place the content on our blog and created links between the content and category page Which option do you think would be most effective/ user friendly? Any thoughts, help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Alick

Beginners question about co-location/citation
Hi, could any fellow users lend me their experience please, I feel I may have confused myself!! Cut a long story short, one of the seo techniques I (like many here) employ is guest authority for sites. This is done through a manual process on quality sites. However, many sites are panicking now about Google and are nofollowing the author link back to my site. While the guest blogging wasn't done exclusively for links, a backlink is always nice. This got me onto the topic of co citation. From what I understand, it is essentially google rewarding you but without giving you back link credit. This is no the area where I have confused myself...am i right in thinking that if my brand is talked about in content on a quality site about Internet Security, then google can see the mention of my brand and will still award me some benefit from. To gain said benefit from the content is it enough that my brand is mentioned, for example 'Brand X published a paper about keeping kids safe online in 2013' or would the brand x thing need to be an active link to my site (no follow). Does this make sense? I did warn that i have managed to confuse myself hehe Many thanks for firstly talking the time to work out what on earth I have written and for any feedback offered.

External links - link to third party sites
Greetings! Actually, got an doubt on linking to external site. The thing, i have working for roof marketers site. They have covered roof products. Each of the products have a page along with major keyword. Actually, i do link from other pages[internally]. Meaning,if i see any main keywords in different page then will link that to corresponding page/product[internally].This is what i am doing to get page rank. Now, my doubt. Some of the pages are having link with main keywords which directs to the third party site those who are really producing the products. But, i remove the third party-link which has with main keywords. Since already the site/my client site having pages for that main keywords. But client really want that link. meaning the links which they have given to direct to third party[product producer] site. So what should i do at this case. Can i just past RAW link like [http://www.thirdpartysite.com] or what do i do. But my client wants that link to be in content area. Hope you would understand my long explanation and case Please help us. Thank you

Title tag question
Hi, Lets say you have these 2 title tags. 1. red paint, blue paint, green paint - CompanyName 2. red paint - CompanyName Does the longer title tag dilute the term 'red paint' when it comes to ranking? Basically out of the 2 which title tag would show the best results when trying to rank for the term 'red paint'. Cheers

Targeting high Page Authority sites vs high Pagerank sites for backlinks?
For many years I've been working on seo/backlinks for my website. When doing analysis in opensiteexplorer I notice that the highest listed backlinks for my site are sites with high page authority and domain authority, rather than pagerank. For example one of the highest backlinks for my website has page authority/domain authority of 72/96 but the site itself is only a PR2, while my other backlinks have PR4, 5, or 6 with lower page authority. For a while I've been trying to partner with websites for backlinks from high pagerank sites, as I've always believed this is the #1 metric in relaying link juice. But OSE's metrics seem to not follow that train of thought -- it believes page authority/domain authority is a more important measure. Is it? Should I change my strategy to try to partner with websites that have high page authority rather than focusing so much on pagerank?
