Online Publisher networks (Splash Press) Question

Hi,
If you can get into a network as a writer it's great because you can expose your brand on high auth websites without the hassle of having to build a relationship with each site - once your in, your into all the websites on the network.
So question is, isn't this going to be bad for SEO, I assume all the websites are on the same server and I have seen some where they interlink in the network. Apart from that though they look really great, good fresh content, high DA/PA, lots of social activity etc.
A couple I have come across are:

Well, while we're technically classified as "betting" by UK law, we're very much seen as a financial service provider by the public - and if Google's LSI and word association is anything to go by, we're nearer to trading than we are betting - so we've been able to avoid some of the pitfalls that some betting/gambling companies have when outreaching, for example.

It's not syndicated content, basically a hub company runs a network of websites, some have 100's of sites under them. The network also has in-house copywriters to fuel the websites but also allow for out-house copy writers to add content as well. Each out-house copywriter goes through a review process of past work, if there copywriting skills are good then gain access to the whole network or a sub-section they specialise in.
I'm guessing the network has a few dedicated servers and at least a batch sit on the same C-Block.
I understand what your saying about aiming for exposure instead of SEO benefit but I believe there are only a few blogs which will generate a better return SEO wise from the exposure then the link itself (in each niche).
Side Question: How you finding the betting industry Tom? You got restrictions going on from Google because of your industry? How do you find the difficulty of gaining links?

If the content is syndicated throughout the network, then this could become a problem. It would effectively make it a hub for duplicate content.
However, if each website is kept unique and on their own subject, providing unique and quality content, then it should be OK. There could be an issue with the sites interlinking with dofollow links, but this may be overlooked.
However, as you have rightly pointed out, you would not necessarily get the "C-Block" diversity by writing across the network and if all the sites sat on the same server/IP address, if just one site was penalised manually by Google, you could expect the rest to follow like dominoes.
I'd reiterate something I and others have said before, though, in saying that you shouldn't be blogging for SEO - you should be blogging to reach an audience. If these networks help you achieve just that and on a big scale, then you should definitely go for it. If you have concerns about the SEO, which is a bit debatable I think, then make the links to your site in your posts nofollow, link to your social networks instead, or don't put any in at all if your confident that users will be able to find you by other means.

Is it a good idea to publish a list of players in my industry, including competitors?
I am working with an e-commerce site that does mostly B2B sales in a very commoditized industrial product segment in which very few manufacturers sell direct. It's all done through distributors and resellers, like our site. We don't often win on price, but we do win enough SERP battles to get the visitors and provide great customer service, so we have gained a following and we do compete well for some very large orders. We list several thousand products and in a given month, visitors regularly hit over 1,000 different landing pages. While we make most money from relatively few items, most items are sold only once a year, maybe twice. It's a very longtail business, and therefore tough to do a great job optimizing all pages down the tail. So, one thing I'm doing is building out a set of resource pages with common questions, terminology and other useful bits so the site gains more traffic and authority, in the hope of boosting product pages. e.g., an in-depth category definition in the glossary could link to all the items in a category. In addition to adding content that augments product pages, I'd like to create basically a map of the whole industry, including brand name manufacturers, white label manufacturers, distributors, etc. If it's going to be a truly comprehensive list, it should include my competitors. Given that I have never found such a list, it feels like this could be a good page and earn some links. Since it's unlikely much traffic will even find that page, compared to product pages, are there potential pitfalls I should be aware of? I get the feeling if I create a page that others bookmark and visit when hunting for products in our market, we win, even if most visitors to that page won't buy from us. I've been in this industry for four years now, and it's amazing how hard it is to find some companies. Only a handful even think about SEO, since they sell through other channels. Should I link to all my competitors (which is only about a dozen) among hundreds of other industry links?

MOZ report question.
One of our clients ran a crawl report via Moz. These are the results. Can you please help us make sense of this? (I am a SCORE volunteer and we are working with a company that is trying to decide on how to proceed with an SEO company but would like to understand the process somewhat so they can make a better decision on who to hire. ) Can someone breakdown the importance missing description- 934 total missing canonical tags- 574 total title too long - 199 total duplicate content 74 total url too long - 63 total missing or invalid h1- 55 total duplicate titles- 21 total redirect chain- 1 total

Why should I avoid publishing off-topic content on my website?
As a fun project, my team wanted to build a mini-food blog based off the lunches we make here at our office -- but we're a software company and, topically, our product has nothing to do with food. Therefore, I suggested that we not publish this content on our website + create a Medium publication instead (this would also help us avoid the headache of creating an entirely new section of our website / potential 404 issues from non-technical editors / etc.) However, I struggled to articulate _why _it's a best practice to only publish relevant content on your website. Is it to help search engines understand what your website is about as an entity? Spam signals?

Are press releases that could end up being published with duplicate content links point back to you bad for your site ?
With all the changes to the seo landscape in the resent years im a little unsure as to how a press release work looks in the eyes of Google (and others). For instance, you write up a 500 word press release and it gets featured on the following sites : Forbes Techcrunch BBC CNN NY Times etc ... If each of these cover your story but only rewrite 50% of the article (not saying these sites wouldn't re write the entire artcile, but for this purpose lets presume only 50% is rewritten) could it be negative to your backlink profile, ? Im thinking not, as these sites will have high authority, but what if once your press release is published on these sites 10 other smaller sites re publish the stories with almost no re writing, either straight from the press release or straight from the article in the mainstream news sites. (For clarification this Press release would be done in the fashion of a article suggestion to relevant journalists, rather than a blanket press release, via PR Newswire, mass mail out etc. Although i guess the effect with duplicate content backlinks is the same.) You now have c. 50 articles online all with very similar content with links pointing back at you, would this have a negative effect or would each link just not carry as much value as it normally would. By now we all understand publishing duplicate content on our own sites is a terrible idea, but dose have links pointing back to your self from duplicate (or similar) content hosted on other sites (some being highly authoritative) effect your site 's seo ?

Can We Publish Duplicate Content on Multi Regional Website / Blogs?
Today, I was reading Google's official article on Multi Regional website and use of duplicate content. Right now, We are working on 4 different blogs for following regions. And, We're writing unique content for each blog. But, I am thinking to use one content / subject for all 4 region blogs. This is generally not a problem as long as the content is for different users in different countries. There is generally no need to "hide" the duplicates by disallowing crawling in a robots.txt file or by using a "noindex" robots meta tag. However, if you're providing the same content to the same users on different URLs (for instance, if both example.de/ and example.com/de/ show German language content for users in Germany), you should pick a preferred version and redirect (or use the rel=canonical link element) appropriately. We do a lot of guest articles where we write for other sites and we also do a lot of free press releases, but i would like the hard work to pay off and would like to know what are the best methods to promote these press releases and guests posts. what I would like to do is to have our brand name come up a lot in the search engines. any other methods to do this would also be a great help

Question - Hidden Content via 'Read More;'
Hi, Does having text in hidden areas (that are expandable with a button) harm their value in SEO? E.g. there are 'read more' areas on the homepage of this site that have content that is not accessible otherwise. Guest Blogging Question!
Hi, The anchor text link connected with an article used for guest blogging, say the anchor text has 3 words and the link is in the byline, do these 3 words need to be used within the article content? For example if the article is 500 words long and the anchor text from the link is not used at all in the article content will this have a massive negative effect against using the anchor text in the article a few times?
